Mixtapes: The Downfall of Hiphop?
2007-07-19 22:54:53
Dj Clue…Clue…Clue…Dezert Storm… Storm… Storm… Alright now that I’ve got that out of the way. We all know of this trend and how almost everybody and their mama has a mixtape out. The mixtape game has brought new life to the industry as record sales have went down 33% since 2006. But with the prospect of once again making money (selling 1000 mixtapes for 5-7 a pop is a good grind) comes over-saturation and rushed product. Dont get me wrong i love mixtapes and i think it is what hiphop was built on, doing the damn thing yourself!, the problem is too many people are. In today’s mixtape market you have these hole in the wall rappers coming out and releasing 20 mixtapes within a month (horrible quality, horrible verses, and horrible organization). And these days it seems quantity is favored over quality. Now before i even go further lets understand the purpose of putting a mixtape out, it’s to tie over the fans till new materi

Da Lench Mob: Political Rap’s Finest
2007-07-18 19:58:40
Now to get it popping I want to drop alittle game on a political rap group that some of yall may not have heard about from out the West Coast, their name, Da Lench Mob. Formed by Shorty, J-Dee, and T Bone the group debuted on Ice Cube’s Amerikkka’s Most Wanted album. With their first album Guerillas in Tha Mist they saw the release of their hit single which was also by the same title (Get a bar…Peep out the video below). The record was controversial with tracks such as “Freedom Got an A.K.” and “Buck Tha Devil”. Much like Ice Cube they were frequently criticized for their lyrics. The entire album was Executive Produced by Ice Cube and he was also featured throughout it although uncredited. Da Lench Mob- Guerillas in Tha Mist In 1993 J-Dee was convicted and sentenced to life for murder, he was replaced by Bay Area rapper Maulkie and in 1994 Da Lench Mob released their second and last album, Planet of da Apes.

Music Industry: A Change Gon’ Come
2007-07-22 00:33:20
It doesn’t take a genius nor a industry insider to figure out that the industry is going down the drain. Record sales down 33% as I’ve mentioned in a previous post. These are hard times to be in the rap game (other genres are still grinding out and doing the damn thing). And no, the reason behind this decline is not excessive downloading and pirating contradictory to what the media has said and is saying. Its the RIAA and record companies fault for being so damn greedy and twisted. The fact of the matter is that even if good music is being made it isn’t being put out because A&R’s and the higher powers are stuck on strictly crunk repetitive bullshit. Don’t get me wrong I like crunk music it gets it poppin’ in the club but in year 2007 can you say “over-saturation”, I mean, WHAT THE FUCK is a “Ay Bay Bay”. To take it even further the RIAA (Recording Industry Association of America) aka “greedy ass bitches that have way

Lil Wayne Strips Naked At A Show
2007-07-23 02:50:08
“Last night New Orleans rapper Lil’ Wayne , real name Dwayne Carter Jr., was reported to have stripped naked while performing at a local concert in Baton Rouge, LA. According to reports several onlookers and fans were speechless. “He was in the middle of performing, “Grown Man”, says witness Trey Washburn. “All of a sudden he just pulls his pants down. I couldn’t believe what i was seeing. Shit is messed up.” Local police had to pull him offstage seconds after it happened and reportedly had to restrain him. It is speculated that Lil’ Wayne was under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol. I have no comments for this, but is Wayne still going to get a pass or is this another trend that the rapper is going to start? More on this as the story develops.” All I can say is WHAT THE FUCK?

Where The F*** The Dj’s At?
2007-07-27 04:02:35
Let’s reminisce for a minute, ahhh yes, the good old days remember those, chilling at the park and a DJ spinning records while MC’s cypher and battle and spectators huddle around to listen and see what’s going on. The days when mixtapes were put together by qualified DJ’s who actually got down on their turntables. The days when DJing wasn’t a hobby but a subculture of HipHop. Now, let’s look at the present where DJing isn’t anything but a past time, where records are looked at as outdated and no longer needed, and even the intimate art of crate digging is overlooked for downloading mp3’s. Damn, how things have changed. Im big on mixtape’s, I love them, and get them constantly to hear new artist’s and as a census of what’s going on on the different coasts. What I’ve noticed though is that a lot of the “DJs” aren’t DJs but simply people who replay songs that some artist’s submit to them and sla

Game Banned From Future BBC Interviews
2007-07-26 12:58:36
Last July on The Jo Whiley Show, The Game stirred up even more controvery by calling gay men “faggots” and “not real men”. Whiley quickly apologized to the public for the homophobic outburst and the BBC’s governors committee banned him from doing future interviews. His music will still be played on the station however. First felony charges for pulling a gun on someone now this, I think Game got to step back for a minute cause all of this negative publicity isn’t going to do good for his career.

Umbrella’s have been good to Rihanna ’s career, the song landed her a number one spot on the billboards (the longest-running number one single in a decade), and now she is releasing a line of umbrellas. For all the ladies interested in coping her umbrellas you can get them from Totes. It’s crazy how Jay-Z got her career on lock, now if only he was fucking with Def Jam like that.

Afeni Shakur Files Injunction Against Suge Knight’s Death Row Records
2007-07-25 12:47:45
Lawyers for Amaru Entertainment and Afeni Shakur , co-administrator of the Tupac Shakur Estate, filed for an injunction against Death Row Records , Inc. and R. Todd Neilson, as Chapter 11 Trustee, to prohibit the inclusion of Tupac Shakur’s unreleased tracks, compositions or sound recordings in the auction of Death Row Records. The adversary complaint was filed in the United States Bankruptcy Court for the Central District of California in Los Angeles on July 20, 2007. The injunction sought to restrain the sale of certain assets belonging to the Tupac Estate which are being touted as part of the Death Row Records bankruptcy assets. With closed bidding ending Friday, July 20, 2007 lawyers for the Tupac Estate sought full disclosure by the Bankruptcy Trustee’s counsel that the unreleased master recordings in question were not part of the sale. In actuality, the recordings should have been turned over to the Tupac Shakur Estate in 1997, pursuant to a settlement agreement reached
