HP and the Order of the Phoenix: a review
2007-07-17 04:05:00
Considering it's officially Harry Potter Month, you can be expecting at least a few more Harry Potter posts. Sorry in advance.Ok so I saw HP and the Order of the Phoenix last wednesday, the day it came out (exciting!). I decided to wait a little while until review ing it, to let it have it's full effect on me, and now I feel I can probably review it from a somewhat objective perspective, rather than from the perspective of a die-hard fan who wouldn't dare say anything bad about the franchise (which is what I'm usually like). So here goes:This is the best Harry Potter movie so far, with the Goblet of Fire coming in at a close 2nd!However, it most definitely wasn't flawless. For a start, the amount of things left out was probably larger than what was actually left in, which means anyone who hasn't read the book (I've read the books, so I'm only assuming) would not understand the story line properly. But I suppose that's ok because they don't really seem to mind.Secondly, I cannot

A while ago, I subscribed to a daily email from iVillage Total Health, so now I get a daily email with diet and fitness tips. It's so heartwarming to know that since subscribing, I've never had to suffer through a 'you have no new emails' moment (and never will have to).The messages are always helpful, funny, full of facts and very well written. So I just wanted to give a shout out to all those who are writing for iVillage because they're doing an amazing job!Catch.*Romany*

Chanel Inimitable: better than earlier anticipated
2007-07-13 07:53:00
It's the best mascara I've ever used!I said earlier that it was a good day mascara, but I've learnt that it's also perfect for a laid back evening out!But perhaps save your Napoleon Perdis mascara for big nights out on the town.Highly recommended, two thumbs up!Catch.*Romany*

No more CK Jeans??
2007-07-13 05:34:00
I went shopping at Brand Smart today.I chose this place because I had a specific purchase in mind. New jeans (my old ones shrunk in the wash). Specifically, new Calvin Klein jeans. I bought two pairs from CKJ last year and they've been the best pair I've ever owned (I would advise investing in a pair of CKJ's if you're on the prowl), so I figured I'd go there to buy my new pair.Unfortuantely, I was most shocked to find out that Calvin Klein Jeans (in my eyes, the most valuable store in the whole of Brand Smart) had been removed. Gasp! What is going on here??Sure, there are other CKJ stores in Melbourne to shop at, but this particular outlet was my lucky store! I was devastated! But oh well, no use crying over spilled milk, right?I'm also on the lookout for a somewhat carry-all type bag for everyday use (carrying around school books etc.), so I went into another little shop in Brand Smart and found this amazing GUESS? bag (GUESS? is my all time favourite brand, by the way)! But ulti

Could they be any cuter?
2007-07-10 02:47:00
It's Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint getting their hands and feet printed! (I hope it's ok that I got these pics from Getty...?)Anyway, all of them look absolutely adorable. Emma looks like she's sporting a new 'do (a new blonde 'do, which she says she's done in the spirit of summer). The movie is coming out tomorrow, and I couldn't be more excited! This is how their prints turned out. Awesome, right?Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix comes out in cinemas tomorrow.Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows comes out on the 21st of July.Catch.*Romany*

Oh the wonders of Chadstonia Megaplex (sorry, in-joke)
2007-07-06 22:53:00
Yes, as you can probably guess I spent the day shopping at Chadstone yesterday. And for the first time, I actually got really depressed. Usually Chadstone makes me happy because of all the hustle, bustle and (mostly) fancy stores, but yesterday was just weird. Anyway, no matter because I bought a truly devine skirt, with a Burberry-ish pattern, from Bardot (quickly becoming, if not already become, one of my favourite brands). It's really tiny, so needless to say I have to wear tights under it. It's fitted with suspenders too, (a trend I'm not necessarily opposed to), but my mum told me to get rid of them because they look daggy. I think they look alright, hanging down. I don't think I'd ever wear them properly (as in, over the shoulders), but the skirt still looks cute with them hanging by the sides. It gives it a feel of...rebellion. Lol.I also bought the newest WHO and NW magazines. I haven't read them yet, but WHO's front cover boasts "Hot Body Secrets", and NW screams "What s

Haute Couture A/W 07: Christian Dior
2007-07-05 07:06:00
As usual, the Dior show was a whimsical, theatrical adventure, that leaves you wanting more! John Galliano really should receive some sort of award, and if his couture designing days ever come to an end he will have no problem getting a job as a costume designer.Anyway, here are my favourite designs from this year's show.Gorgeous. And it's pretty awesome that Amber Valletta (old-school supermodel) is modelling this one.I also love this model. Flavia De Oliveira. She's a rising star, that one.I really like it how this model has a little more curve to her body than the others.Show-stopping.I adore the colour of this absolute masterpiece. It reminds of a snake. A very chic snake, or course. ;-)Unfortunately, this will be the only Haute Couture post this time around. I thought I'd show this collection because it was particularly stunning.Check out the rest of Haute Couture A/W at HarpersBazaar.com.auCatch.*Romany*

Waxing = pain!
2007-07-05 06:33:00
I got my legs waxed today.Unfortunately, this seemingly ridiculous ritual than women put themselves through, waxing, is 100% necessary, not to mention effective.Sorry, I'm making it sound like I've only just had my first wax. Not so. I'm actually something of a waxing veteran. I just hadn't had it done in a while, and had forgotten how ridiculously painful it is. I've heard some say that you eventually become immune to the pain, after a few years or so. They are lying. But don't be fooled. The satisfaction after having been waxed is one that cannot be easily beaten. If you're looking for a place to get waxed you cannot go past Complete Skincare (the beauty salon on Maling Road, Canterbury, Melbourne). The women there are extremely friendly, and they do an excellent job. Nice and quick. Not necessarily painless, but they do their best to distract you from the pain you are obviously experiencing.Just a helpful hint from yours truly.Catch.*Romany*

Melissa George, the face of Napoleon Perdis
2007-07-05 06:16:00
Yes, yes. I know this news is almost a year old, but I mainly wanted an excuse to express my opinion on how stunning Melissa looks in her 'Face of Napoleon Perdis' picture.I'll admit, I'm not the biggest fan of Melissa's movie choices, so far (although I hear she's got a really big blockbuster in the works, which is great, it's about time karma started swinging her way), and I'll also admit I'm not the biggest fan of her wardrobe and makeup choices, red-carpet wise (but those are her choices, and I shouldn't really judge, I guess), but boy, this girl certainly scrubs up well! Napoleon has done an excellent job of making her look stunning, elegant and classy. That is, after all, his job.Usually, when we see this kind of intensity with eyeliner on a woman it conveys an image of trashiness, when applied loosely. But that is most certainly not the case in this circumstance.Speaking of 'Faces of Napoleon Perdis', where is Alice Burdeu? Jeez, this girl is harder to find than an a

All grown up...(whoops minor Half Blood Prince spoiler)
2007-07-04 07:08:00
Remember little Ginny Weasley (played by Bonnie Wright) from the second Harry Potter movie, Chamber of Secrets?Well...Look familiar? She's grown up quite a bit since then, I guess you could say. I like her hair like this. It sort of looks like she's wearing extensions...? Oh well, no matter. The problem here is the dress. Sorry, but whoever brought tent dresses back in should take them right back out because they do not flatter anyone.Anyway, can't wait to see Bonnie making out with Daniel in the Half Blood Prince film!Catch.*Romany*

Where's the editorial?
2007-07-04 00:56:00
Sorry. I know most of my recent posts have been me whining about one magazine or another, but I just have to ask this.I remember back when Australia's Next Top Model was on, Jodhi (the host) was very clear about the prizes. One of them was an 8-page editorial for Vogue magazine. It's already been almost 2 months since Alice was announced as the winner, and the new Vogue just got released today, and still no editorial. I don't know about anyone else but I am dying to see this editorial. Not only to see what the article will be like, but also to see how Alice handles herself doing this, compared to the challenges of the show. I'd also like to see how the photoshoot turns out. I never particularly liked Alice, but hey, she won...and I'm happy for her. :-)Anyway, I hope they haven't dropped the whole thing. My girlfriends and I were all so excited, one of my friends was even thinking of subscribing, just to make sure she didn't miss the article.Oh well, I guess all we can do now is

Spice Girls reunion? We can only hope :-)
2007-06-23 22:59:00
I have been waiting for this news for 9 years. Ever since 1998, when I was informed that my favourite member (Geri) of my favourite group (Spice Girls , natch) was leaving to pursue a solo career, my faith in the world hasn't been the same. In all honesty, though, I'm not sure that now is the best time for a reunion . 3 out of the 5 have kids now, so it won't be the same as old times, but it's something, at least. I wonder if by 'reunion' they mean a reunion concert, or a new album, or The good old days something else stupid like they'll all be together in the same room or something....I'm not positive on all the details, clearly, but I am excited. I hope I'm not the only one.Catch. *Romany*

Chanel mascara from a magazine...the easy way out
2007-06-23 07:44:00
I bought the new issue of InStyle (Australia) today. Wow. I always thought that my heart belonged to Vogue and Harper's Bazaar, but flipping through the opening pages of InStyle, I think my mind was changed. It's just so classy. Don't get me wrong, I love Vogue and Harper's to bits, but I do usually have a tiny problem with them being the slightest bit snobby and not giving much of a chance to women who don't have $2000 to spend on a purse. But InStyle isn't like that.I loved almost every little thing in this issue (quite the opposite to my relationship with Vogue and Harper's)...from the piece on Sarah Murdoch, to this issue's ManOfStyle (Adam Brody, yummy), to the fashion insider/celebrity insider, to the Celebrity Weddings and even the little piece they had on London (my future hometown). But the best surprise was the purse-sized Chanel Inimitable mascara that came free with the magazine.I wore it today and it works quite well as a day mascara. It did everything it promises:

Favourite fashion mags
2007-06-18 03:22:00
I love magazines. They're so much fun! Especially fashion magazines. Here are my personal favourites:Vogue- Honestly, Vogue is just classic. Is there any fashionista out there who doesn't love Vogue? Hooray to the crew for creating a new and exciting issue every month! My one dislike about Vogue, however, is the covers (Australian Vogue). There is just something about them, I can't help but think they could just be...better.Harper's Bazaar- I love Harper's for it's wit. Most of the articles are written from a subjective point of view, and while that may be bad in some cases, I find it more interesting to read than just facts and figures. Plus, the fashion is just so...exclusive. Juicy, juicy stuff.Russh- I'm new to this one (I don't think they have international versions of this one, just Australian), but the moment I picked it up I fell in love with it. It's very retro, but it only makes it more endearing. Each issue only gets published every two months, however, instead of t

Shopping and magazines: the perfect way to pass time :-)
2007-06-16 20:47:00
Yesterday I went on a special birthday shopping trip. And special it was. My aunty took me to Chapel St (the best shopping district in Melbourne). I was so excited. And I was very glad that I wore my nice clothes, because I noticed as soon as we got there, that the dress code was anything designer. If what the street folk of Chapel are wearing is anything to go by, then say hello to a whole new season of trenches, scarves and boots over jeans. Honestly, everywhere I looked women were wearing this exact combination of clothing. Which is great, those three things are one of my favourite winter trends. Another thing that I saw in abundance: hooded jackets with stretchy sleeves. You know the ones I'm talking about? I'm trying to look up what they're called but the internet is being very unhelpful. Anyway, I've decided I must get my hands on one of those jackets. They are the kind of jacket that almost always has a busy pattern, so be sure to pair them (if you're going to wear them wit

Can't wait for...'Crazy Hot"!
2007-06-14 00:58:00
'The Au Pairs', by Melissa De La Cruz. The book series I've been loving (not as much as Harry Potter, though, of course) since I first opened book 1 a few years back. Now it's already time for book 4. It's crazy. Or should I say say crazy hot? Sorry, that was lame lol.It started out with the three main characters, Eliza, Jacqui and Mara bunking up with an uber-rich family, the Perry's, in the Hamptons for the summer. The only catch is that they're supposed to be au pairs, which in the Hamptons is pretty much social suicide (thanks 'Mean Girls', lol ;-). Au pairs to 4 spoilt brat kids. As the summer progress, so do their relationships, with eachother, with the Perry bunch, and with rest of the Hamptons crowd.Book 2, 'Skinny Dipping', sees one change: Eliza is no longer an au pair, but instead becomes the door-bitch to the hottest new club in the Hamptons which takes her right where she wants to be: the top of the social ladder, again. While Mara uncharacteristically party ho

Lost in a sea of (mostly) beauty: ad campaigns
2007-06-13 01:06:00
I was flipping through my first copy of US Vogue today, May 2007, and couldn't help but notice the ad campaigns. And by 'couldn't help but notice', I mean there were so many they practically slapped me across the face.I counted 43 ad campaigns, and that was just until the editor's letter. The of this 43 were actually displayed in between Ms. Wintour's letter. Don't get me wrong, I'm a Vogue devotee as much as the next girl, but I personally don't understand the need for all these ads...? The magazine inadvertently advertises hundreds and hundreds of brands anyway, jam packed into articles, photo shoots and style (etc...) tips. But obviously, I'm not saying get rid of them all together (after all, one of my favourite hobbies is to check out which new, or old, models are hot on the ad campaign scene these days...). Just cut it down from, what seems like 150, to perhaps 50. Having said that, though, there were a few that caught my eye. L'Oreal HiP: Ok, is it just me, or does Mil

Welcome
2007-06-13 00:45:00
Hi. :-)My name is Romany. I love fashion and like writing about it. I don't really know what I want to do with my life, obviously something in fashion. I guess I'll decide someday, at a later stage. But for now, I've decided that I'd like to put my thoughts on fashion (and on anything else, really) out there for others to read. Who knows? It could be interesting. At times, I may sound cynical. But believe me, I'm not. If I had to choose a Sex and the City character that I'm most like, I'd pick Charlotte (now that says something, right?). Although at times, I'm way more like Samantha, and don't understand why Charlotte gets so worked up about certain things. So, I guess, I'm a mixture of both. See, I managed to work a Sex and the City reference into my first post. How do you like that? Lol.My all time favourite show is The OC. Followed closely by Sex and the City, Seinfeld, Jonathan Creek, Desperate Housewives, Australia's/America's Next Top Model, The Hills and The Simpsons.

Sale at Max & Chloe!

Max and Chloe , an online accessories boutique, are having a sale and I couldn't go past this adorable turquoise, strawberry shaped ring by Kenneth Jay Lane.It also comes in white and (of course) red.On sale, it's priced at $55.Max and Chloe have recently become a favourite of mine, me having just chanced upon a visit to their website, their products have set the standard for accessories in my mind.I also found out that some of their jewellery was used in Christian Dior's A/W ready-to-wear show. Hot (and I mean HOT!) new trend
2007-07-25 03:17:00
WAYFARERS!That's right, they're back and better than ever! This 80s trend (most popularly designed by sunglasses giant Ray Ban) has garnered itself an almost cult-like collection of followers. They're the type of trend that has divided the nation, however. Alot of people love them, and alot of people find them hideous.Like the look of them? Sunglass Hut is your best (but not necessarily cheapest) bet. You can get a pair like this (white is more feminine than black, I reckon) for about $230AUD.Budget? Then eBay is your new best friend! :-)As far as retro trends, the Wayfarer is one of my favourites. It's 50s and 80s at the same time. They're pretty classy (and sometimes trashy, I admit).Enjoy. Style Icon du jour: Rihanna!
2007-07-24 23:18:00
No one can deny that this year has seen a big change in umbrella-toting, popstar Rihanna 's style. She's gone from tomboy with style, to just plain chic! I've rounded up some of her signature styles, so we can all see some of the amazing looks she's pulled off:BEFORERnB babeAFTERCouture fashion museHIGH WAISTEDSTRAPLESSI, personally, have come to regard Rihanna as a somewhat style icon of late, especially after her change from long, luscious locks to an asymmetrical bob (so hot right now!). A change that big shows us she's versatile, daring and not afraid to stand out. How can you not admire that? :-)Word on the street is Rihanna's releasing a line of umbrella's. Hit or Miss?
2007-07-24 21:09:00
Yes, another one. But can you honestly blame me? A Hit or Miss post is always way fun!Ok, so we all know that ankle boots are super hot right now, and have even been dubbed the coveted adjective flattering, but is that really true? Look at Mischa Barton here (at a Christian Dior show). She looks great in almost anything, but here her legs just look a tiny bit...stumpy. Plus she's paired the shoes with a completely unmatching dress (and not in a good way). Sorry Mischa, but it's two thumbs down from me.But what do you think? Did the ecclectic wonder get it right? Or oh so wrong?[photo courtesy of mischa-b.com]

Are you struggling to keep up you're healthy diet and sufficient workout routine? You're not alone.I have a little tip for you, though. It helps me quite alot. Just when I'm thinking to myself 'I'm never going to get in shape, what's the point?', and reaching for that chocolate bar, I look over at my inspiration wall and my spirits are lifted. Basically, what I've done is flipped through my favourite magazines and cut out everything from ads, to celebrity posters, to random shots of people who's bodies I admire and stuck them on my wall, in a place where I know I'll always look. Here's what I've got:a Tommy Hilfiger ad (the model is wearing a bikini, so I think I can have an awesome body like hers, all I have to do is exercise some self control); a Zimmerman ad (same as before); an Estee Lauder Azuree Soleil ad (Carolyn Murphy, she's inspiration in two words); a picture of Jessica Biel (her body makes me want to exercise lol); a jumble of pictures of cute workout gear (to s
