What a Gorgeous Cover...
2007-11-25 02:31:00
Oh my! If only all covers were this beautiful! Trust US Vogue to create such a lovely image...but then again, Annie Leibovitz was the photographer, and you can't really go wrong with good old Annie L.Random post, I know. I just wanted an excuse to express my love for this dazzling cover, and it's accompanying photoshoot...Catch.*Romany*[photo courtesy of justjared.buzznet.com]

Does It Get Any Better? Beauty and Sex (and the City)
2007-11-25 01:58:00
Oh dear, that title was a bit naughty wasn't it?Anyway, one of my favourite things to do after coming from school/work is to make myself a snack and settle with a nice, comforting episode of Sex and the City. This has been happening a lot recently (bad, I know...what about exam study, right?), but it's really given me a new perception of the show and it's characters. I've only really gotten into Sex and the City over the last 2 or 3 years, so I've seen all the episodes at least once, but watching all the seasons again has really changed my opinion of the characters.I was never a Miranda fan, now she's my favourite. Samantha is so careless and selfish this time around, Carrie gets more and more deluded and self-absorbed as the seasons progress, and Charlotte's pretty much her same old loveable self. All criticisms aside, the show is one of my favourites and always will be. It's been an absolute inspiration to women all around the world, showing them they can be strong and indepen

Research At It's Best

See LC or Whitney anywhere?Thinking of interning at a fashion magazine? I know I am. It's definitely worth reading the Intern Blog at teenvogue.com. Although, here in Australia interning at magazines' isn't exactly as common as in the US and other countries, so everyone else already has a headstart. Lol. I always love reading these behind-the-scenes-at-a-magazine features, it really gives you the inside view of what really goes on.Of course, they'll never beat the 'Devil Wears Prada'...but they can try.Catch.*Romany*[photo courtesy of teenvogue.com]

Best Dressed at the American Music Awards 2007
2007-11-24 02:30:00
Ok, I know this is 6 days late, but wait for it...exams, remember! Lol. It's really messed up my blogging schedule, but hopefully I aced them all and then I'll stop complaining. Now to the red carpet, which can be summed up in one word: bling. I had to wear sunnies whilst perusing through the stacks of pics of this event. But let me tell you, bling = hot! There was lot of leg, and alot of very interesting shapes. Clutches and beaucoup de bracelets were the accessories to have this time around.Best dressed goes to Ashanti. Haven't seen her in a while, so for a first-in-a-long-time spotting she looks dazzling. This colour looks great against her skin tone, and the dress 100% compliments her figure.Yay for curves! Alicia Keys and Beyonce have definitely raised the bar! Beyonce landed herself on a few 'Worst Dressed ' lists, but I just don't get that. She looked stunning. Alicia looked equally classy, I'm getting such a New York vibe from her look.Bravest Dressed goes to Rihanna. Hell

Quote of the Week

"You know what? You're right -- forget about my life. I'm having Steve's baby! Pizza for everybody!"Miranda (Sex and the City, Season 4, Episode 59 "Coulda, Woulda, Shoulda"), sarcastically telling Carrie that she wants to keep Steve's baby...little did she know.I watched this episode today, and nearly collapsed with laughter! Oh my gosh, Cynthia Nixon is the best comic actress ever! :-)

Absence Makes the Heart Grow Fonder...
2007-11-23 01:16:00
Lol! Sorry, couldn't resist with that title.Wow. Please try and excuse the fact that I have been totally M.I.A. for the passed, well let's see now...12 days! I feel completely disconnected from the fashion world!Anyway, don't worry I have a good reason. Exams. Woohoo. I've had a full blown week of exams, one each day. Sound fun? It was (warning: imitating my level of enthusiasm may cause emotional and physical harm).I'm pretty sure we get our results some time next week, so wish me luck. I need all that I can get!As a little consolation treat, I've compiled a list of things to get excited about right now:*First and foremost, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix came out on dvd this week (or was it last week? I'm so out of touch!) Go out and grab yourself a copy while you still can!*Auditions for season 4 of Australia's Next Top Model were held last week (which a friend of mine attended and totally got in the top 20 of Melbourne), which means the new season will be airing s

Fringe Benefits
2007-12-01 01:34:00
If someone asked me what the most popular beauty trend of 2007 was (well, is, the year isn't over just yet), I wouldn't even stop to think before saying "bangs". Which is quite funny, because here in Australia we don't even call them bangs, but they're so everywhere, especially beauty blogs from the US, that you can't help but get caught up in the hype! The latest starlet to get the chop (the very fashionable chop, of course) is Katie Holmes. I don't know about everyone else, but I think she looks simply stunning. Sophisticated, young and effortlessly chic. Liv Tyler is another celebutante joining the Bang-ed Beauties. So cute. When Nelly Furtado made her amazing comeback last year with her now five-times platinum album Loose, she was catchier, hotter and more stylish than ever. A little while later she started sporting blunt bangs, which all but added to her appeal. It's her best look, in my opinion. Penelope is another recent addition to the bangs crew. How does she get her hair

High School Trendspotting: White Shirts with Belts
2007-11-30 22:48:00
This is a fairly new FT that I've been meaning to write about for months, but never really got round to it. I first noticed it on a very fashionable friend of mine, and soon others followed suit (no pun intended. Lol). It can be an extremely flattering look, giving an air of laid-back, relaxed chic meets office butterfly. This isn't usually the style of white shirt that's used (I've only ever seen shirts with buttons, and no in-built white belts), but as I always say, fashion is open to interpretation. You wouldn't believe how blank your mind goes when you need to think of brands that stock white shirts. Lol. To be honest, I think oversized shirts look better in this particular trend.Hoorah I found the exact belt that's used (almost every time)! This particular one is called a Corset Belt, pretty much speaks for itself, no? Corset Belts work quite well, in that they are very flattering, often adding waist definition where there was none to begin with. Brown is the preferred belt

Hit or Miss?
2007-11-30 04:35:00
This pic of Scarlett (holding hands with Ryan Reynolds, after landing at LAX Airport) is from a few months ago, but I just came across it (or re-came across it) today, and I just really couldn't go past it. I just have to say...what was she thinking? We can see she's tried to go for a bit of a quirky, off-beat look, but unfortunately hasn't pulled it off. Scarlett's usually very fashion-savvy, but this just doesn't make sense...But what do you think? Did the-multiple-Sexiest-Woman-In-The-World get it right? Or oh so wrong?[photo courtesy of justjared.buzznet.com]

Oh Tara, Tara, Tara...
2007-11-30 02:29:00
Speaking of getting into shape...despite the odd bikini shot here and there, Tara Reid has been keeping a relatively low profile these days. So you can imagine my surprise when these shots started making their way around gossip blogs earlier this week. This photo has been scaled down a little, but even when full size it's still just as shocking. Is it just me or has Tara Reid lost a lot of weight? The knit top she's wearing is rather unflattering, so I daresay that when wearing clothes that fit better she may even look thinner? She's definitely been slimming down this year...Tara Reid in Feb 07Tara Reid in July 06Compared to last year, Tara has definitely lost some weight. Whether she's been doing it the healthy eating and exercise way or the drugs, cigarettes and alcohol way remains a mystery...She's looking pretty good though, I have to say.Catch.*Romany*[photos courtesy of gettyimages.com, dlisted.com and thesuperficial.com]

New Faces
2007-11-29 03:07:00
Wow this has definitely been the week for celebrities-turned-models.As far as I know, 3 uber cool women have been signed for 3 different, (but still uber cool) fashion labels:Cory Kennedy has just signed on as the new face of cosmetics label Urban Decay. I'd been hearing things about Cory for a little while but never really understood who she was and what she's famous for. Turns out, it's nothing. But in a good way. The story of her rise to fame is fascinating (well, I think so, at least). Check it out here.Kirsten Dunst has been cast to star in Miuccia Prada's label, Miu Miu's upcoming Spring campaign. Good match, Kirsten is definitely a better suit to the Miu Miu label than Lindsay Lohan, in my opinion. She'll bring a punky class to it, I believe. And finally, Victoria Beckham has already shot the Spring '08 campaign for fashion giant Marc Jacobs. It was bound to happen sooner of later. I'm happy for her, I love Posh. She's great with fashion and definitely has a model look,

What Time Is It? Summer Time!
2007-11-28 04:00:00
...yes, that was a High School Musical 2 lyric. But I'm not ashamed. :-)It's November 28 and I (as well as more than 40 million other people living south of the equator) have only 2 days to get ready for summer, as it starts on December 1st. Do you realise the intensity of this situation? All those extra slices of bread and yogurt snacks I've consumed over the winter months to heat up my body (yes, that'll do...) have taken their toll and now it's time to slip into the old 'inspirational' short-shorts and get into shape. And what better way to beat the bulge than with a gaggle of my closest girlfriends? That's right...we're joining a gym.Are you sure about that, you ask? Well, to be honest, I've thought about joining a gym for a long time, but annoying obstacles keep making their way in front of my dream dress size, such as:Price (most gyms cost more than $40, and that's just a joining fee)Accessibility (finding a gym that's an equal distance from each of our houses has bee

Evian Limited Edition by Christian Lacroix
2007-11-26 01:40:00
Haute Couturiers designing water bottles? Did I miss something? Oh well, it's way awesome anyway...The story: Evian has released a Limited Edition set of designer water bottles (which they've apparently been doing for a few years now), to show dedication to the fashion industry. To celebrate winter, Lacroix has designed this gorgeous (and expensive) Haute Couture Ice Queen bottle, and a Ready-to-Wear version with a pretty pattern weaving on the outside.I don't think they'll be coming to Australia, but even if they did they'll be following in the U.S.'s footsteps and only stocking them in high-end supermarkets. Official prices are a little iffy, but these babies are sure to pop up on eBay sooner or later, for less than what they're worth, I assume. Watch this space...Catch.*Romany*[photo courtesy of viecouture.com]

Christmas Wishlist: Literary Feast
2007-12-06 01:21:00
I remember when I first started this blog, I was lusting after the new Melissa de la Cruz book 'Crazy Hot', the 4th in 'The Au Pairs' series. Unfortunately, after 6 months, I still am. But, just like the Ralph Cool, this will be the year. 'Crazy Hot' isn't alone on my wishlist this year, however. Authors Sara Shepard and Zoey Dean have also caught my eye, of late...Crazy Hot -- Melissa de la CruzIt's been a year since the hottest au pairs ever saw the Hamptons, and they're certainly older -- though not necessarily wiser. Or drama-free.Eliza, Jacqui, and Mara thought they'd be spending the summer apart, but when Eliza's new stepmother finds herself in need of some nannying help around the megamansion with the step-monsters, Eliza makes a call...and Jacqui and Mara wind up with two first-class tickets to the Hamptons. The A-List -- Zoey DeanMoving from Manhattan's elite world to "Hollyweird" presents Anna with quite a culture shock, but one that she's ready for. You Know You Love Her...
2007-12-05 00:33:00
It's the show everyone's talking about (and blogging about). Gossip Girl. The show premiered here in Australia, last night. Thanks to YouTube, I'd already seen it, but that didn't make it any less enjoyable. I can't get enough of it. I want it to be Tuesday everyday, therefore no one would have to wait. Lol.It's fashion meets gossip meets teenage relevancy with a very sexy twist. If you're like me, and stare lustfully at Blair and Serena's wardrobes and just...wish, there is help available. Thanks to the darlings at FabSugar, you can get you're Gossip Girl fix as often as you want (well, more as often as it's updated).I find that behind-the-scenes features on hit TV shows are all part of the fun, so you can imagine my delight to find out that the CW has kindly set up a B-T-S of the fashion featured on GG. Check it out here. Very interesting stuff.Who is Gossip Girl, I hear you wonder? Those who have read the books are already privy to this information, I'm sure. But us newbies

2007 Red Carpet Trend: Fuschia
2007-12-04 23:50:00
Oh, I just love fuschia. It's one of my favourite colours, especially to wear. So it's great to see Hollywood stars bringing this gorgeous colour back onto the red carpet scene. Roberto Cavalli, Zac Posen and John Galliano, I salute you. Lol.My advice for adapting this 'special occasion' colour into day-wear: go small-scale. Forget the head-to-toe look, and start with just a hat, shoes or cute jewellery pieces. Then if you're feeling more comfortable with the colour (as it's a fairly bold colour and, naturally, needs to be accompanied with confidence), you can start wearing it in top/skirt form, but never at the same time and never in pants form. You'll be pretty in pink in no time.Catch.*Romany*[photos courtesy of people.com]

Jennifer Love Hewitt Proud To Be a Real Woman
2007-12-01 18:36:00
Jennifer Love Hewitt was spending this past weekend, minding her own business, in Hawaii with her new fiance, Ross McCall, when some photographers starting snapping pictures of her from all sorts of bad angles on one particular day they were spending at the beach. All of a sudden, the pictures were popping up everywhere with nasty headlines like "Jennifer Love Hewitt Piles on the Pounds", "Jennifer Love Hewitt's 'Healthy' Bottom" and such...The pictures of Jennifer in Hawaii(in case you're wondering, I will not be posting the picture of her behind here, because, well, that's just mean. It's her behind and no one else's business)And this is what Jennifer has to say in response:This is the last time I will address this subject.I've sat by in silence for a long time now about the way women's bodies are constantly scrutinized. To set the record straight, I'm not upset for me, but for all of the girls out there that are struggling with their body image.A size 2 is not fat! Nor wi

Will the search ever end...?
2007-12-17 16:31:00
I read this extremely informative article a few weeks back, and have now bookmarked it as a sort of 'bra buying guide'.The Search for the Right Fit is a comprehensive list of what bra shopping for a big busted woman is really like, written by Sari Botton. She admits it's hard (amen to that!), but gives us an advantage by telling us what the lingerie market is really offering.Definitely worth a look, for women of all bust sizes.Catch.*Romany*[photo courtesy of victoriassecret.com]

Quote of the Week
2007-12-16 16:36:00
"I thought it was going to be a lot greater than it was. I thought, 'Boy wouldn't it be great for everyone to know who you are?' And I decided very quickly, no that's not great at all. Fame is a prison. It's a prison, and the more famous you are, the smaller your world becomes. And that's not any fun."Dave Madden (aka Reuben Kincaid, of TV's 'The Partridge Family') on his expectations of fame.Wow. I mean, you hear celebrities saying they're not fans of their overwhelming fame, but this takes it to an extreme. A necessary extreme though, I believe. It's a real wake up call for anyone who's considering getting into show business just because of the fame.He said this on a YouTube video I was just watching -- 'David Cassidy: the story of...' It was fascinating! I even got a bit choked up at times. Definitely worth a watch.

Hit or Miss?

Miley Cyrus takes a well-earned shopping break, after adding new dates to her sell-out tour. Usually I hate it when 'Hit or Miss's feature celebrities out and about, because it's unfair to judge people on their everyday outfits, and I swore I would never do it. But I'm totally loving this outfit, I've only put it here to find out what everyone else thinks of it.So then, what do you think? Did the tweeny-mega-star get it right? High School Trendspotting: Lurex Metallic Stripe Scarves
2007-12-15 00:49:00
There's nothing better than lurex to glam up an outfit. And in what better form than a scarf?Ever since, say September-October these have been everywhere. But it's great, because they're gorgeous! I haven't had the time to pick one up for myself but I borrowed my friend's the other night at a party, and am not looking forward to giving it back. Lol.It's really just an ordinary lightweight, white scarf with tassles, but the metalic stripe (sounds a bit NASCAR, doesn't it? Lol) really jazzes it up. This one above is from ASOS which is an online store, based in the UK. Here in Australia, people are mostly wearing their lurex scarves that they bought months ago, probably from Sportsgirl, but Dotti is still stocking them in peach and other colours; Just Jeans were stocking the white ones, with blue metallic stripes a few weeks back, but I haven't seen any since...Glassons are still stocking them in white, and other colours, also. This yellow lurex scarf with metallic stripe above is

Just a Paparazzi Shot? Or Something More...?
2007-12-14 22:47:00
There are two types of pictures I'm talking about. There are the very beautiful, chance photos taken randomly by a paparazzo on the street (or anywhere, really), that look like they could be from a photoshoot, or some sort of ad campaign. These usually go unnoticed, but photos are a huge part of my life, and beautiful, chance photos are a huge deal to me.Then there's the career-making photos that can either be taken by chance or, carefully planned and hunted down. These photos make headlines around the world. A picture's worth a thousand words, after all...Beautiful by chance...Hilary DuffI just stumbled across this paparazzi shot today, on People.com. I don't know if it's the wonderful contrast of colour (dark weather and clothes, bright red umbrella and coffee cup), or the inanimate snowflakes captured perfectly still, but this photo is an instant classic in my book.Paris HiltonI'm not a huge Paris Hilton fan, ordinarily, but back when Ms Hilton was in Australia this photo was

High School Trendspotting: Short Shorts and Long Cardigans
2007-12-13 01:24:00
Yay! Finally an FT that works my way, lol! I've worn this combination of clothing many a time this year, and loved every minute of it.Used to seeing the usual Daisy Duke denim cut off short shorts? No wonder you're not enthusiastic about this trend (not that there's anything wrong with these, but denim Daisy Dukes have some, let's say, risqué associations). Get creative and interpret/alternate this trend to make it your own. I've mostly seen loose fabric short shorts (that are mighty short, rest assured) this year, but denim is always hot so don't get down if that's how you'd like it. Whatever floats your boat. Now for my favourite part, the cardi. Being a woman of a somewhat curvaceous stature, I have many body parts that I like to cover up. Cardi's are my best friend, for that very reason, especially long ones. Light, breezy, laid-back: perfect for summer.Clue for next FT post: sparkle, sparkle, sparkle.Catch.*Romany*[photos courtesy of victoriassecret.com and crossingwallst

Pre-Autumn 2008 -- Best Bits
2007-12-13 01:00:00
Badgeley MischkaOh, I always love the designs of these two genius boys. It seems they're very into mermaid hems right now. The white dress on the far right could totally be a gorgeous wedding dress, right?Oscar De La RentaDo I really need to talk about how wonderful I think Mr. De La Renta is? I mean sure, I want to, I could do it all day, but is it really necessary? The middle outfit is my favourite, and as much I love black tights, I think a few seem to be a bit bored with them: De La Renta has their problems solved.Zac PosenI know that Zac Posen has some sort of cult celebrity following, over on the other side of the world, but I really don't understand it. Movies To Watch At Christmas Time
2007-12-11 05:26:00
Oh my gosh, it's exactly 2 weeks to go, everybody!Everybody's favourite holiday is creeping up on us and I, for one, am stressing. I don't have half as much to do as all those legendary women cooking Christmas breakfast and/or lunch and/or dinner, and yet I'm still feeling claustrophobic with how fast the weeks are going by. There's just not enough time! What to do when feelings like this are overwhelming your thoughts? Why not watch a good old comfort movie. Now that it's Christmas, comfort movies are theme-restrictive (mostly). I, myself, haven't actually seen many Christmas themed movies, but those I have seen have landed themselves on my comfort movies list. Here are my favourite movies to watch at Christmas time. The Santa ClauseWow, it really doesn't get much better than this, as far as Christmas movies are concerned. A wonderfully original idea (the main character accidentally 'kills' Santa and must takes his place as part of the Santa 'Clause'...haha), complimented by

Chanel Pre-Autumn 2008 Collection
2007-12-08 03:20:00
Oh, Mr Lagerfeld how unpredictable you are!Karl Lagerfeld and a gaggle of his most glamorous posse made their made to London this week to present a very special collection of luxury clothing, right between ready-to-wear and haute couture. At first, I kept asking myself why? Later, I realised why not? All the time is the right time for a fashion show. But the real reason is, I think, to cater for the smaller sized foreign women glamorizing the U.K. right now, looking for something luxe to drape themselves in. That's all I could get from Style.com's reasoning. Does that make me dumb? Oh well, that's life. One word: black. Seriously, there was no confusion with this collection (grey area, ha get it?). Anyway, I was scared for a while there when it was being said that black tights and heels were out, that being one of my favourite ever outfit additions...but I wasn't buying that anyway. My black observation still stands (but, as you can see, there was the odd splash of colour here and th
