Some Blogging Tools
2007-08-25 16:28:17
I’ve compiled a small list of tools available on the net to aid bloggers with blogging (I suppose! ) It’s only a smallish list, of tools I’ve found while treking across the net - oh BTW, don’t come crying to me if something disasterous happens while you use these services! Pingomatic - pinging service Creative Commons - copyright protection Bloglines - news aggregator Google Analytics - statistics Blog Flux Polls - polls Feedburner - RSS feed tools TagCloud - produces Tag Clouds for your blog from RSS feeds Favicon Maker - create Favicons Del.icio.us - social bookmarking Digg - yet another social bookmarking site! I’m Back…but Late!
2007-08-24 18:45:05
Finally, I’m back! It’s good to be home, first thing I did when I got into the door was grub up and then have a shower - you’re both filthy and stinking from just one day with KTM! We were delayed by 2 hours coming home, due to a woman who was struct by the train before us while on the tracks at the level crossing, we ended up being static on the track for over an hour and a half, doing nothing - I just slept for most of it&hellip ;or wrecked Steve’s head (as usual he returned the favour!) While we were waiting, we grubbed up - sorry I - grubbed up with an Iarnród Éireann Ham and Melted Cheese roll. It was eddible…unlike anything else from Iarnród Éireann’s dining car! A total of 5-long-bloody (literally!)-hours stuck on the train! But back on the topic of Cork, it wasn’t a bad DAY! I only went down for two days, but minus commuting time it worked out around 1 day of work. Such as scrapping KR181, well I didn’t do it, but Ross and Ken

I’m Gone!
2007-08-22 18:28:22
I’m off again, to the sunny south-west for two days of stressful bus operations! No real agenda, for me anyway. I intend on arsing about as I usually do, no towing needs to be done (I’m not a fan of towing ), so any work will strictly be mechanical, just getting ould buses motoring after long periods sitting up idle! Great practice for me, where else am I going to learn to get a Cummins L10, Leyland 0.680, Gardner 6LX, or whatever going! There are feck all of these in modern fleets, mostly DAF, Volvo, and Scania - although you’ll still get some old school operators with an old Tiger, or Cummins engined Van-Hool! Okay, I promise when I return on Friday evening, that there will be no more buses - at least not everyday as it is presently. I can’t help it, there’s a lot happening - and blogging about it is the only way I can keep track of it all! So it’s “Think Positive” for the weekend - things looks worse than they are which was the case

I Don’t Blog Enough!
2007-08-22 14:16:52
According to some people ( ), I don’t blog often enough. Well considering, this month I’ve blogged just about once a day, which suffices enough in my opinion, and in previous months I blog at least once every three days or else I have a good excuse! So I promise to blog more frequently for those people especially!

So much for a day off!
2007-09-01 18:45:10
I’ve only managed to sit down, for once today - or should I say this morning! I took a day off from the buses today, give myself some breathing room, and allow myself to catch up on some stuff before I’m back (properly this time) on Monday coming. Day started off well, didn’t roose from the leaba until around 2pm, got a full Irish breakfast in bed, grabbed a shower and fecked off to the gym for an hour. Got home, noticed there was no floor, toilet or sink left in my bathroom  , the noticed my cousin getting everything setup for some tiling of the floor in the bathroom - 5 minutes in he burst a pipe - god damn these new houses…pipes are too close to floorboards We eventually got the situation sorted - shut off the water and investigated. Found that the burst pipe was the central heating main feed (not any fucking more!) and it either needed replacing or a very good botch (I’m quite good at botching…) - we settled on a good botch, using some

Happy Blog Day!
2007-08-31 10:51:49
BlogDay2007 I blogged about Blog Day a few weeks ago, and almost forgot about it until this afternoon! Basically, Blog Day is where you find 5 other blogs you find interesting, contact them saying you thought their blog was interesting and write a bit about their blog and link back to it in a post which you make on the 31/August/2007. As I completely forgot, I had no preparations - so I don’t think I’ll be participating… I’m a bit busy today. But for those bloggers out there reading this, you might aswell participate… if you want to link back to me feel free (Desperate I know!)

Some Useless Facts!
2007-08-31 09:32:55
Some useless facts -you didn’t need to know and that you’ll never ever reference! Humans are the only primates that don’t have pigment in the palms of their hands. The sentence “The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog.” uses every letter in the alphabet. The only 15 letter word that can be spelled without repeating a letter is uncopyrightable. No word in the English dictionary rhymes with month, orange, silver and purple. A duck’s quack doesn’t echo, and no-one knows why. Months that begin on a Sunday will always have a “Friday the 13th.” The longest one-syllable word in the English language is screeched. Apples, not caffeine, are more efficient at waking you up in the morning. A pack-a-day smoker will on average lose 2 teeth, every 10 years. When you sneeze, all bodily functions stop…even your heart. Your feet are bigger in the afternoon than the rest of the day.

Swear in Irish
2007-08-30 18:59:13
Like everyone else I came across this a while ago - but for the craic I’ll list them, make whatever corrections and add some to the list when possible. You can use them to insult people, in Irish class, or to tell your mates you can speak Irish…then insult the feck outta them when they haven’t a clue what you’re on! Is dócha nach bhfuil seans ar bith ann? - I suppose a ride is out of the question? Bualadh craicinn - Fucking Cíoch - Tit Striapach - Whore Bitseach - Bitch Cac ar oineach - Scumbag (shit on honor) Póg mo thóin - Kiss My Arse Ciach ort - Damn You Focáil leat - Fuck Off Bí do thost - Shut Up Téigh trasna ort féin - Go and Fuck Yourself Díul mó bhad - Suck my Dick/Cock Tá tú glan as do mheabhair - You’re Mad/Crazy Táim ag teacht - I’m Cuming Damnú air! - Shite! Should I keep income logs?
2007-09-27 16:28:45
I’ve been earning some ‘pocket change’ recently through the blog. My initial intention wasn’t to earn money, but to keep it as a blog - but earning money through the blog now-a-days is so easy! On average, I’m making atleast $25 per month from this blog, which isn’t much to the big time blogger, but to us small time bloggers it covers our expenses and gives us some extra money online to either spend on ourselves or invest elsewhere. I’ve been considering keeping and updating logs whenever I earn money from THIS blog, although I think it would be slightly inappropriate for this blog, in the way that I never set out to earn money and that I’ve slightly become a sell out with sponsored posting etc… But in a way, I think that I should share what you can earn without much effort… Suppose I’ll have to weigh up both sides and decide if I want to share my net income from this blog with the readers - seems quite shallow I kno

Back to the old style!
2007-09-26 17:48:31
Busy postings tonight! I’ve decided to revert back to the old style for the time being, K2 was annoying me, due to it’s blandness - too box, plain and it was conflicting with my TLA plugin for some reason! So for the next couple of days, the blog will be sporting the old style until I can find another to replace it, or else modify the old style somewhat to make it more personal…

Automatic Blog Pinging
2007-09-26 17:41:40
I’m still only getting to grips with all these blogging tricks of the trade, Pinging was a new one to me - and still is! Basically, it’s when a blogger (me!) creates a new post, a tool sends a signal to ‘Ping Servers’ which compile and generate lists of updated blog posts - which inturn lists them on Google Still confused? There’s nothing really to it, as there is a list of blog ‘pinging’ services which you include into your blog, that when you make a new post inturn will automatically send the ping signals to these servers - saves you doing it manually via Ping-o-Matic, and other services like that. I found this list off the net (can’t actually remember it’s been so long!), so I’m not claiming copyrights, or any of that jazz of the content, I’m simply raising awareness of it Basically you: Login to the Admin panel of your Wordpress install (/wp-admin.php) Select Options - Writing Options -Update Services There sho

We’re running on ‘Dexter’
2007-09-25 14:51:53
We’re now up and running on ‘Dexter ’ or Wordpress 2.3 as it will be formally known! Remarkably, the upgrade was flawless and went very smooth and easy. Didn’t have any conflicting issues, and I didn’t lose all my widgets which was one of my fears as most I cannot remember - I made a backup of the entire blog (both files and databases) just for safeties sake. I’ve lost the blog once before, but had a backdated backup so it wasn’t too bad! I’m thoughly impressed with the updated version, I’m looking forward to not having to constantly check for plugin updates, as with ‘Dexter’ it automatically checks for updates and prompts when a new version is available. There is also the new tags feature, which enables you to add individual tags to your post, to aid in Search Engine optimization and will also help with the management of the larger than average blog! There are so many other new features, but these two are the main ones!

Some Improvements
2007-09-24 11:34:32
Firstly, like many bloggers, I’m eagerly anticipating the release of Wordpress 2.3 which is due later today - with that it should imensly improve all ratings for this blog. Not that it hasn’t been doing quite well as it stands now. Today the Alexa rank improved to: 1,929,875 - which isn’t bad going considering I’ve only been listed for the past three weeks - see this post! I want to go into 6 figures, so there’s still a fair amount of work yet to be done. With the release of 2.3 brings the prospect of easier blogging! Not that it’s difficult now, perhaps I should rephrase to ‘easier blog management’, as it’s anticipated that Plugins will automatically tell you when updates are available, a much easier to use general admin interface and many more features I’m dying to try out. Of course, I will be updating everything manually - plugins, Wordpress, everything. And with the update, I will be changing the forum theme, from the def

Robbin’ Baxtards.
2007-09-22 08:47:44
Bought a printer today, I don’t usually print things off so I’ve made do without a printer for the past umpteen years - who needs a hardcopy of those documents…except when your Harddrive fails Anyway, bought a cheap and cheerful all singing, all dancing, 3-in-one, mass produced piece of crap - €80 in Tescos - can’t go wrong…well I can. First of all, there’s no software with it! They want ME to go out of my way and download the drivers! Next, there’s no USB A-B connector, they want ME to go out of my way and buy it - being somewhat of a horder I’d of thought I’d have one…but no The irritating thing, is there was nothing written about the lack of stuff on the box - not that I looked for anything, when you buy a printer you expect there to be everything you need to start printing off crap when you get home. Okay, it’s a plug and play, but not including the connector to connect it to the PC is just being a stingie

The PayPerPost Revolution
2007-09-19 17:45:21
I’ve finally given in, and began the ‘PayPerPost Revolution‘, that is striking blogs all over the world wide web. To be honest, at first I thought that it was just another scheme - but after closer investigation, and many friends and associates recommending the service to me I’ve dramatically changed my opinion. I’ve witnessed, many people earning a living off these programmes, it is one way to earn a livin doing something you truely love, enjoy and devote time to! I can only somewhat dream of making a career from blogging, at the moment the prospect seems a long time away, but with advancing services like PayPerPost, it could be a possbility. I don’t intend on making sponsored posts that don’t go in unison with my blog, but the odd time I will try my best at structured sponsored posting - especially when there’s a dry spell, when I can’t think of anything to blog about…or when I can’t afford to pay my hosting bills as

Been a bit busy…
2007-09-19 09:40:20
Sorry for the lack of posting yesterday. I have been busy as of late with my latest treking - ‘The Impulse Blogger‘, I’ve decided to enter the competitive market for Bloggers Blogs, providing Webmaster/Bloggers, Tips, Tricks, Tools, Services and Reviews. Its a little bit messed up at the moment, needs a lot of tidying, I’m just getting my bearings first. The skin has had some modification, I’ve made up a custom logo (simple but it will suffice for the time being), and installed and Aladins cave of Plugins! I think I’m at a slight advantage, with having learned a lot with SEO, and promotion with this and other blogs I will be able to get the visitors in widespread and more efficiently. I’ve also learned quite a lot about the Wordpress structure, which is an advantage over say a new blogger to the scene. But I’m there to blog as a somewhat seasoned blogger, to aid new bloggers in getting their blogs thriving and more managable - well that&r

Colin McRae RIP
2007-09-17 14:42:23
Colin McRae , 1968 - 2007 Another tragic death, one of many peoples icons Colin McRae , along with his son and 2 family friends died tragically in a Helicopter crash, on Saturday 15th September 2007. It is understood that Colin was piloting the aircraft, when it crashed close to the McRae home around 16:00 on Saturday afternoon - all on-board, Colin McRae, his 5 year old son Johnny McRae, Family friend Graeme Duncan, and Johnny’s 6 year old friend Ben Porcelli died in the crash. It is news that has send shock to all concerned in the motor sport injury, to both persons involved in rallying and fans of the sport. Colin McRae began his rally career in 1986, and was the first british person to win the WRC in 1995, and was known for his fearless approach and skillful precision driving. His family were also well known for their motor sport ability, his father Jimmy McRae was a five-times British Rally Champion, and younger brother Alister serves a career as a successful professional dr

Stevo a blogger!
2007-09-17 09:58:36
Looks like our very own ‘Stephen Payne in the Arse’, a.k.a. ‘Rodders’ has become a blogger after hours of me nagging to him en-route to Cork and back… He could do with improving on the writing style and posting more frequently, but he’s getting there. Now my task is to keep him at it, as well as get him some traffic. I think a link should do it…well that’s all he’s gettin’ anyway! A Day in the life of Rodney Trotter Welcome to the world of blogging Stevie - View this for inspiration!

What’s the Rush? BlogRush that is!
2007-09-17 09:51:52
I recieved an invite for this on Saturday night, and didn’t think much of it upon initial review. But now like most second tier bloggers, following the ‘big boys’ like sheep following a shepard we’re all starting to flaunt our new piece of Sidebar bling! It seems all bloggers are copying one another with the post, not that it’s intentional, we just like to give our views and opinons on new servies, and tools. The new BlogRush service, went live a few days ago, and bloggers have been signing up in masses to ‘be the first’. I signed up on Saturday, but haven’t thought much of it, considering it hasn’t brought much traffic to my site, and the widget isn’t the best of lookers! I suppose early days… Don’t get me wrong, it’s a great way of gaining traffic and discovering new blogs to add to your blogroll and aggrigator. But it could do with some work, of which I see they’ve begun to undertake. One thing I&

Journey - Don’t Stop Believing
2007-09-16 16:56:30
My favourite song at the moment is Don’t Stop Believing - by Journey . Not entirely sure for what reason though, it has a great tune and the lyrics are catchy. It’s a song you’ve heard before, and only remember it when you hear it on the radio or TV. It’s been backing music in loads of shows such as The Soppranos, Scrubs, and Family Guy. So there’s a chance you’ve heard it. I’ve only recently been getting into bands like Journey, that’s what happens when you go routing through your Dad’s CD collection… Anyway, below is the song in its entirity. Although, it’s not the original video, it’s a makeup of scenes Final Fantasy - and there’s also the Family Guy take on it down there somewhere…

Unfortunately Placed Ads
2007-09-16 05:03:11
Found these various unfortunately placed ads on the web, some are unfortunate, some hillarious, and some a little bit cruel! Still, worth a look! I’m not one to make my blog postings from leeched content, but these are from different sources and are humourous - some of us are allowed to break our own rules!

Alexa Ranks, and Improving them.
2007-09-15 15:23:17
I’ve only recently figured out what the Alexa rank was all about - basically, it ranks your website on the amount of visitors (whom use the Alexa Toolbar) that are visiting your site daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly, bi-annually, and annually. It is essentially a very large toplist, people competing against each other for Alexa ranks, quite like the GooglePR in many ways, it depicts how much your blog, website, or forum is worth to advertising operatives such as PayPerPost, Text Link Ads, Review Me etc… who calculate how much your space is worth through your GooglePR, and Alexa Rank - many favour high ranks! Many blogs (including myself) aim to be in the top 100,000 rank. I’ve only been on Alexa for two weeks, and my rank has improved 6,000 ranks - so I must be doing something right. However, I’ve compiled a list of things that you can do to improve your rank somewhat. I will be trying them all with this blog, at the time of this posting my rank is: 2,275,750.

Blogs Best Week!
2007-09-14 08:47:16
This week has been great for the blog, so much so that it has been it’s best week yet! Our unique visitor count has shot up, as has the returning visitor count which is great. We’ve had twice as many subscribers - although the FeedBurner button has only gone on so it should be slow in building readers. I’ve been offered so many proposals this week it isn’t funny. Although, I’ve decided from reading an article a few weeks ago that having my site full of useless links isn’t the way I want it to be - Spam, or non-related links, over advertising harms your GooglePR!  So all offers were kindly declined, regretfully, as I could use the money but I can always hold out until a related sponsor comes along, I may begin PayPerPost again as a means of some income - it will atleast give me something to write about during a blogging drout! By far, this week the best posting has been the Missing Madeline McCann posting I made just after her disapperence. The suppo

Just Plain Cruel!
2007-10-01 14:08:03
I blogged a while ago about a New PC on the cards for myself (because I’m worth it ), well obviously it would take a long time for me to come up with the money for one, and it would have to be prised from my clenched fist as the time to pay for the computer comes! So my parents, have decided to be generous and buy it for me for a Birthday/Christmas present - I’ve been going on about a new PC for ages when there was nothing wrong with my old system (1GB RAM, 1TB HDD, P4, 19″ Phillips LCD), but now I’ve an excuse - both my main system and laptop are acting up (Laptop’s problem is running out of HDD space!) So my ranting and raving is no longer falling on deaf ears! But the CRUEL thing is, it’s being purchased during this week (with some luck), BUT, I’m not even allowed remove the seal on the box until my Birthday (17th November). So I’ve to stare and dream of that E encrusted box as it taunts and jeers me with it’s 2GB RAM, 500GB H

Domain Hoarding!
2007-09-30 16:00:00
Recently, I’ve been hoarding domains, through various sudden ideas, or it’s an opportunity not to be missed out on - although the 2nd was going cheap on eBay I don’t know for what reason I was possesed to buy these domains, I could have had an idea, bought the domain, and then forget the idea…that’s more than likely the case! Some may be developed, some sold and some will lanquish in disuse! I have a huge list of potential purchases, that I’m sure would bankrupt me if I were to register them all! Maybe, I’ll list some of the ones I don’t intend on registering so some of you could make use of them! My latest acquisitions have included: LooseHosting.com - Intended to be a hosting service… (Name.com) PictureStorer.com - Bought cheap on eBay, possibly a image upload service (GoDaddy) Joozo.net - Some brandable name I came up with… (HostMySite) BloggerHub.net - Intended Bloggers Community/Forum (HostMySite) ImpulseBlogger.co

Misreading Alexa Badge
2007-09-28 17:40:08
I noticed this evening that my Alexa badge/button is misreading information, and is showing incorrect rankings, as it hasn’t corrected itself two days after the rank has been updated (it’s updated twice in the past week!) It’s a little bemusing why it hasn’t updated, I don’t know how it works and where it feeds from, but surely it would promptly update itself??? Ah well, I’m not complaining, just a little bemused
