BlogSoc.com
2007-08-13 19:18:28
I came across this place tonight while surfing, anyway, it’s a Social Network for Bloggers, by Bloggers. It’s still in it’s juevenile state, with only a handful of members, and at this point in time only two actual personal bloggers (all the others are commercial blogs). It has great potential, on a great domain, nice design, [...]

Blog Day - August 31st
2007-08-13 13:29:39
BlogDay was created with the belief that bloggers should have one day dedicated to getting to know other bloggers from other countries and areas of interest. On that day Bloggers will recommend other blogs to their blog visitors. With the goal in mind, on this day every blogger will post a recommendation of 5 new blogs. [...]

I’m Back…not that you want me back!
2007-08-13 12:18:02
Well I wasn’t really on a ‘weekend break’, was more like a weekend of hard labour as usual with a weekend spent at Kells Transport Museum - moving buses, sorting out the offices, and doing anything else needed to get the place running a bit better. Okay, the place looks like a bit of a kip, [...]

A Morning @ Mondello!
2007-08-19 12:12:15
I was dragged out of bed at 6am this morning, to go on a training day at Mondello (National Course), for some reason my Dad had booked it for 8am! I suppose that’s right to do, as there were very few people there ‘when’ we arrived! I say ‘when’ as we got rather lost, not because we have a shite sense of direction (well I do anyway…), but because nothing was signposted! If you’ve ever gone to Mondello park, from Dublin, you know to take the exit for Naas, continue into Naas, Head towards Carragh, once you reach Carragh it’s straight all the way to Mondello park. But, the M50 exit (exit 10 I think), had no signpost, so we passed it. And didn’t realise until we reached Tallaght - we tried to go via the Belgard Road, but ended up chasing our tails. Back onto the M50, seen the exit for N7 Cork/Limerick - seen a signpost for Mondello, took it…and it brought us into Naas Village? So we knew our way from there…and were only a

Bus Rallying - How Fun!
2007-08-18 17:24:40
No it isn’t a play on words…we literally went rallying in a double decker bus - well you need’d thing that I’d let anybody ever think about that to my pride and joy now would you? Johnnie, got a 1978 shit heap off Express Facilities, that will eventually be turned into a static workshop - static in that it will never move again - so we’re going to have some fun with it before we lay it to rest!! She’s not too bad - Rough, but not TOO bad! ‘Stephen Payne in the Arse‘ spotted it on the M50 last night while on the phone to me (he has a hands-free people don’t worry!), and we were pondering for a while to where it was destined - but we got a shock when we arrived into the Yard to find her sitting there - perspex front windscreen and all! She started on the button, no fuss - not the normal for a Gardner, a bit smokey, needs new filters and a good service, but is a fine runner. Bodywork is lets say shite! But give two weeks, some new p

I Hate Car Hunting!
2007-08-17 13:57:17
No, I’m not going hunting for a car - but instead a good friend of mine is (and hasn’t got a fooking clue!). So I was volunteered to go with him, to make sure he doesn’t buy a shit heap…again! So he picked me up around 1pm this afternoon, and we headed out to a few ‘dodgy dealerships’ in which he saw cars he liked from CarZone and whatever else he was on. So the first car we viewed, was a tidy 99′ Punto ELX, the only one not viewed at a dealership believe it or not! It wasn’t too bad, was Black, which is a good colour for them, and it was going well, until I questioned your man about the car and didn’t like the answers. Apparently, the Red Master key, was ‘lost’, okay, that can be replaced. I then questioned on why the alarm system wasn’t functioning, and he said it stoped working when his mate steam cleaned it…yeh so his mate steam cleaned the wires and they were cut clean too were they? The stereo wasn&rs

A Grannies View of a Leopard!
2007-08-16 19:15:08
Ulsterbus Leopard s, originally uploaded by madringo. Ulsterbus Leyland Leopard 337 (accompanied in the photo with 326, 338, & Tiger 385), photographed at ‘Granny Height’, or ‘Granny Perspective’ - at the base of Kells Transport Museum, based near Glanmire, Cork, Ireland. Pictured at my most recent ‘Kells Transport Museum Working Weekend‘, in which I often frequent, usually the first weekend of the month. KTM, got the final batch of Leyland Leopards build for and withdrawn by Ulsterbus, and received delivery thoughout April and May 2007. KTM, intends on purchasing a number of N-Type Tigers, of some historical signifigance within the not too distant future as the class slowly becomes phased out (and scrapped! only a small ammount will enter preservation inorder to keep working examples surviving for future generations).

Anyone For a Link Exchange?
2007-08-16 12:04:50
Okay, in an attempt to build onto my websites exposure, I’m looking for other bloggers, to go into a long term link exchange with my blog. We’ll both get something out of it, and it will aid in both our blogs development! I place all links into the sidebar of my blog, and is viewable within all pages and aspects of the blog. I’m currently on PR3, but it’s expected to increase with some luck, so you can see why I’d like to get many link exchanged with other bloggers/webmasters! I’m not fussy about your content, as long as it’s not too offensive - that will get me into trouble some way or another, or content that I don’t want an affiliation with (illegal stuff - if you know what I mean ) It’s a great opportunity for both of us to Link Build, especially if you’re only after starting a blog and want to get visitors in - as well as aid your PR, and Alexa rank So if you’re interested, Contact Me, Place a link within your

Screw Opera!
2007-08-16 11:24:23
I’m now formally saying “Screw Opera!”, and no not the ‘Fat Lady’ singing kind, but instead the browser, which happens to be proforming like a fat lady! I decided last week to download Opera, to give it a go, I’m a Firefox follower, and I’ve heard that it proforms better than Firefox in more routines! Fan-bloody-tastic I thought to myself, I like having fast reactions from my PC, especially my browser. I can never use Internet Explorer, mainly as it lags and freezes too often. And when you’re ass inpatient as I am you come close to smashing up the computer on many occasions - hence I never use Internet Cafés…they ALWAYS use Internet Explorer, although some give you the option of IE, & Firefox So back on topic, I found Opera, to be a waste of time. By no means is it faster. Okay, it loads faster on initial startup, but that’s because it’s a smaller file, and takes up less space than Firefox. It’s slow to l

Turn your old CD’s into Lamps!
2007-08-16 10:52:21
No, I’m not full of shite. I came across this video on YouTube, where a demonstration of a desktop lamp was made using a Mini-USB cable, 6V Bulb, Two old CDs, some cable, and some cardboard for the light shade! Pretty cool trick eh? Will give it a go eventually, but I think it’s a little bit dangerous…especially if your wiring is shite! I’d be inclined to find a fuse as well as a switch and impliment them into it - just for safety’s sake!

Nokia Recall 46 Million Exploding Batteries!
2007-08-15 15:57:46
Nokia has identified that in very rare cases the affected batteries could potentially experience over heating initiated by a short circuit while charging, causing the battery to dislodge. Nokia is working closely with relevant local authorities to investigate this situation.Nokia has several suppliers for BL-5C batteries that have collectively produced more than 300 million BL-5C batteries. This advisory applies only to the 46 million batteries manufactured by Matsushita between December 2005 and November 2006. There have been approximately 100 incidents of over heating reported globally. No serious injuries or property damage have been reported.Consumers with a BL-5C battery subject to this advisory should note that all of the approximately 100 incidents have occurred while charging the battery. According to Nokia’s knowledge this issue does not affect any other use of the mobile device. Concerned consumers may want to monitor a mobile device while charging that contains a BL-5C

I’m Gone!
2007-08-22 18:28:22
I’m off again, to the sunny south-west for two days of stressful bus operations! No real agenda, for me anyway. I intend on arsing about as I usually do, no towing needs to be done (I’m not a fan of towing ), so any work will strictly be mechanical, just getting ould buses motoring after long periods sitting up idle! Great practice for me, where else am I going to learn to get a Cummins L10, Leyland 0.680, Gardner 6LX, or whatever going! There are feck all of these in modern fleets, mostly DAF, Volvo, and Scania - although you’ll still get some old school operators with an old Tiger, or Cummins engined Van-Hool! Okay, I promise when I return on Friday evening, that there will be no more buses - at least not everyday as it is presently. I can’t help it, there’s a lot happening - and blogging about it is the only way I can keep track of it all! So it’s “Think Positive” for the weekend - things looks worse than they are which was th

I Don’t Blog Enough!
2007-08-22 14:16:52
According to some people ( ), I don’t blog often enough. Well considering, this month I’ve blogged just about once a day, which suffices enough in my opinion, and in previous months I blog at least once every three days or else I have a good excuse! So I promise to blog more frequently for those people especially!

Am I Really That Bad?
2007-08-22 14:12:10
Okay, I’ve just realised that a large proportion of the blog is comprised of my addiction/affair with buses - I tend to siblimianally be attracted to buses. It’s not my fault, I’ve had it exposed to me for long time and I need my fix every now and again…usually solved after a weekend in Cork - I hate buses after that for a few weeks! So Today, myself and ‘Stephen Payne in the Arse’ paid a visit to Lough Swilly Bus Co. in Letterkenny, on behalf of a ‘client’ whom had purchased some buses from their withdrawn fleet and wanted us to inspect them to see if they can make the journey South - and survive! We were well greeted by the staff, we were quite taken aback as usually bus companies treat preservationalists/enthusiasts like a piece of shite they’ve just scrapped off their shoe onto the curb. We were left to our own vices, and we gave around 7/8 buses a good going over with the checklist we had compiled. The lads were welcoming

Lightening the Load!
2007-08-21 10:43:12
Like a lot of blogs, this being no exception, we tend to get bogged down and slow due to resource eating plugins and themes - most of which we don’t even use or utilise. Well today, I went all out with jotting down what was vital to run the blog, and was just bogging us down as regards to loading speeds etc… I’m a fecker for finding plugins or themes I like, installing them, find out it’s not what I expected or it’s not needed or no longer required - so it’s disabled and left…still eating up server resources! So while I had an hour to spare today (probably the only hour I’ll have this week - but that’s another blog post all together! ), I set down, in front of the laptop (obviously!), logged into Wordpress Admin for madringo.com, noted what plugins I was using, what I wasn’t, and what I needed - same goes for themes…except I just deleted them all except Default and the previous one I was using (I can’t re

Google Stoofs!
2007-08-26 13:50:07
I was never one to be amazed by all of Google ’s monopoly of services, tools, and features. But today, I decided to arse about with some of their tools, to aid with blogging, web design and overall internet usage. The first thing I used and sampled was iGoogle, a customizable homepage, with various widgets, and themes - a handy little addition, I’ve mine configured to Google Reader, MET Éireann, Various News Aggregators, Confucious Quotes, and various other feeds and the like. The Themes even update themselves depending on the weather! I’ve also been using Google Analytics, which is quite handy for stats etc… nothing spectacular as most of you who run websites with some half decent traffic would use it. Another tool I was impressed with FTW! Google Webmaster tools, are very handy to get your Google indexing up and increased which in turn will futher your chances of a Google Page Rank increase! Google Reader, another great service. Best invention to keep track o

Blogging a Chore?
2007-08-26 11:01:16
I was talking to a friend of mine online this afternoon, and the subject of blogging came up (he’s a blogger too - what are the chances! ). Anyway, we were both complementing each other on one another’s blogs and so on… He was then saying that, blogging was a chore for him It was a little surprising, why anybody would setup a blog, and call it work! I enjoy blogging, it’s a sort of stress relief - I’m sure if I didn’t have it, I would have no stomach lining left. Blogging , lets you get all that pent up rage out - lets you say things that you wouldn’t say to the persons face…or maybe you would So it begs the question: Do you think blogging for you is a chore? <a href=”http://polls.blogflux.com/poll-16154.html”>Take the poll</a></p> <p><a href=”http://polls.blogflux.com/”>Free Poll by Blog Flux</a> Vote in the above poll, it

I’m Back…but Late!
2007-08-24 18:45:05
Finally, I’m back! It’s good to be home, first thing I did when I got into the door was grub up and then have a shower - you’re both filthy and stinking from just one day with KTM! We were delayed by 2 hours coming home, due to a woman who was struct by the train before us while on the tracks at the level crossing, we ended up being static on the track for over an hour and a half, doing nothing - I just slept for most of it&hellip ;or wrecked Steve’s head (as usual he returned the favour!) While we were waiting, we grubbed up - sorry I - grubbed up with an Iarnród Éireann Ham and Melted Cheese roll. It was eddible…unlike anything else from Iarnród Éireann’s dining car! A total of 5-long-bloody (literally!)-hours stuck on the train! But back on the topic of Cork, it wasn’t a bad DAY! I only went down for two days, but minus commuting time it worked out around 1 day of work. Such as scrapping KR181, well I didn’t do it, but Ross and Ken

Wasn’t too bad…
2007-08-30 10:31:15
Well was back to the grind today, wasn’t too bad. Had a half decent lyin. Although I did forget I was in today&hellip ;until my Mam reminded me while I was having breakfast - had to have a shower, get dressed and be out the door within just over half an hour (I managed it though for some reason! ) Got there a few minutes early, had to get a journal, say my hellos, that and you don’t want to be late for your first day back - a few people were…but I won’t say who everyone knows who anyway Nothing else to blog about that’s of any interest…bar my school was so cheap they were short on timetables

Hairy old Cortina!
2007-08-29 13:50:31
The best advertisement ever (in my opinion ever…although I am a ‘Ford Freak’!) The ad for Nescafé first shown around 2002 or there abouts, featuring a <insert needless Cortina lesson>Later Cortina Mk3, L series, 1.6l,</end needless Cortina lesson> meaning it would move…pity it’s only cruising in the advert! Still, they did it justice showing all the good angles…and they give it a bitchin’ fro’! The backing song “Funky Cold Medina” sang by Tone Lōc, but has been modified in the context simular to Dustin the Turkey’s version “Funky Ford Cortina”.

Back to the Grind!
2007-08-29 09:19:59
Well tomorrows the day I’m back to the grind! I must say, usually I’m semi-glad to get back to school, usually after 3 months of doing shag all you need some structure in your life to keep you sane! But this year, I’ve been so busy (just read my previous posts!) I would gladly accept another 2 months off to finish more crap I’d like to get upto - what I haven’t had the chance to do yet! The summer holliers are usually great, well last year was! This year I was busy! One week I’m just inondated with buses, the next I’m coding up god knows what for someone giving me feck all money for it! Or else I’m down in Cork standing around like a spare prick (when the boss is around anyway…) Ah well, I’d want to knuckle down, I’m going to be a proper senior now, the Leaving is just around the corner. It makes me want to consider my lifestyle - and my hobbies. It makes me want to re-consider my situation with the buses, as in shou

Bird in the Sitting Room?
2007-08-27 06:47:12
Bit of an unusual post, and a bit of an unusual sighting! I was woken up this morning, by my sister in hysterics as she heard (not seen!) a bird in the living room. So I went down to investigate, sweeping brush in hand! And there was the little fecker, perched on the curtain rail…shiting on the curtains and going mental in the corner of the room! So I opened the door into the kitchen and then the door out to the garden, gave the fooker a whack of the brush and he made his own way out (he knew his stay was unwelcome…I wish some guests would pick that up….maybe I should hit them with a brush  ) It’s not the first time this has happened, it happened back in Februrary, when I was home for lunch. I was sitting there on the sofa, and a Magpie falls down the chimney and starts going mad! So while he was still getting his bearings, I trapped him into a bucket and let him go outside! Makes us consider fitting one of those little grates that goes on your chimnet st
