Inspiring Wordpress Themes 2007-07-17 08:30:03 I have been spending the last two weeks learning all I can about creating Wordpress
Themes. My research into designing Wordpress themes took me to some of my favorite CSS galleries to look over some well designed layouts.
It’s really amazing what some of these talented designers can do with the most basic wordpress theme and stylesheet. Between the out sanding design, creative use of plug-ins, and quality coding; it’s no wonder why many designers are using their blog as their portfolio website.

How to Get the Most from Your Client 2007-07-24 22:17:43 Maybe it’s just me, but I hate when I clients says, “just do whatever, we trust you.” As much as I like creative freedom, I hate having to remake good designs; which is what usually happens when the client gives me creative guidelines.
To remedy this problem, I have started sending all clients a brief questionnaire to fill out. I have found that this not only helps me with the design process, but gives the client a better understand of what they want. Many clients never sit down to really think about what they want in a web page, they just know they want one. The questionnaire makes the clients think about what they want their web site say, evoke, and do.

Design Float - A digg style website for deisgners 2007-07-30 10:52:17
I had heard rumors of a dig style website
geared toward designers, but never really took the time to hunt it out. Thanks to this post by CSS Juice I didn’t have to.
Design Float is pretty much a replica of the dig website, but for designers; designers being both web and print of course. On Design Float you can find all of the best design articles, tools, resources, and website all in one spot. No more looking through list of tags on a multitude of sites; now you have a one stop design destination.

Transcending CSS: The Fine Art of Web Design Review 2007-08-06 22:41:19 Transcending CSS – Helping you become a better CSS designer.
Amazon.com $30.00
*This is not a paid review*
I’m a cheap guy and I have a hard time shelling out $50 for just about anything, especially a book. But shortly after picking up a copy of Transcending CSS: The Fine Art of Web Design
, I was practically running to the checkout line. Transcending CSS was just the CSS design book I had been looking for.
Transcending CSS is the perfect CSS book for those who want to take their CSS design skills to the next level. If you know a decent amount about CSS, but aren’t sure how to put it all together the right way, then this is the book for you. Better still, is that Transcending CSS is written by a designer and not a coder or developer. Meaning that it’s written very visually and in a such a way that will captivate designers. (more…)

10 Inspiring Website Branding Images 2007-08-11 20:44:21 We have all heard the old saying, “you can’t judge a book by its cover.” While that couldn’t be more true, it’s a simple fact that we all do it. We take a quick glance at books, movies, clothes, etc and decide in an instant if it’s worth our time to look at; websites are no different.
How many times have you clicked on a link, only to be taken to a website with ok design, but you closed immediately? So what is it that makes you check out some websites, but close others? Besides the sites design well being, I would argue that it is a good branding image (formally known as a header).
Your websites branding image is the first thing a visitor is going to see. They are going to quickly glance over that image or design to get a feel for the website. If your branding image has poor quality, bad design, or conveys the wrong message; your visitors will probably leave before you know it.
Here is a look at 10 quality designed branding images:
