A YouTube enabled phone ? 2007-07-12 00:25:08 LG is getting set to release a new Prada-esque keypad-less phone
, with its hereto unheard of KU990 model recently landing in the hands of the folks at Clipset.net. Apparently, this is one of the forthcoming YouTube
-enabled handsets recently mentioned by the company, meaning that it’ll not only be able to play YouTube videos but let users submit videos to the site straight from the phone as well. Otherwise, the phone’s big selling points are its ample 5-megapixel camera and HSDPA connectivity, not to mention its sizeable 3-inch touchscreen. Rounding out the specs, you’ll get a built-in FM radio, MP3 player, microSD card slot, and an array of pre-loaded applications, including the Muvee video editing app. No word on pricing or availability, though it certainly doesn’t seem like it’s all that far off. Visit link below for more pics and a video showing off the phone from every angle.

Musipen Digital Audio Player 2007-07-11 13:03:11
The musipen is a new concept digital mp3 player that breaks away from the conventional style DAPs. The most interesting component of the glowstick-esque design is its UI, which utilizes the tubular shape for navigation through menus, allowing for each end to act as a kind of scroll-wheel.

The best YouTube video downloader 2007-07-15 15:59:59 What’s better than downloading youtube video
s as FLV and then re-encoding them as AVI for your collection ? It’s downloading youtube videos as DIVX compressed AVI directly, ofcourse..
Vixy.net is an online video conversion service that can convert flv files into
AVI (DivX + Mp3)
MOV (MPEG4 + MP3)
MP4 (MPEG4 + AAC)
3GP (MPEG4 + AAC)
Mp3 (Audio alone)
Vixy does a great job by encoding the video to any desired format. You wont have to bother about the re encoding part for the flvs..
Here’s the final result of a video encoded using vixy.net ..
Pretty kewl, huh ?

Alternative to Yahoo! photos 2007-07-17 09:48:33 Yahoo will close down Yahoo Photos within the next 2 months, in favor of Flickr, the competing photo sharing site the company bought about two years ago. But Brad Garlinghouse, SVP of Yahoo, admits that Flickr isn’t the right sharing site for many users of Yahoo Photos, so people will be given the option to instead move pictures to Shutterfly or the Kodak Gallery.
I came across SnapGalaxy, which is taking advantage of the scenario. As a promotion, they are offering all the Yahoo! customers 25 free prints upon successful photo transfer from Yahoo photos
account, 10 free prints to all new users and 20 free 4×6 prints as a referral bonus for each friend.
They have fulfillment enters in India & USA and a tie with DTDC to deliver the prints reliably on-time in India. That is great news for us Indians. Recipients in India and USA do have local low-rate shipping options available.. Check out SnapGalax today !

The trends, reach and traffic rank are displayed on the bottom right part ( on the status bar) and the Related Links pop out as an extra menu item. I wonder why they still call it a ‘Toolbar’
Sparky Features:
Related Links: Find sites that are similar to the one you are currently visiting.
Traffic Trend: A sparkline showing the traffic trend from the last four months.
Reach Meter: A neat little indicator that shows the site’s Reach.

Google on a spending spree 2007-07-20 12:20:12 Google’s revenue rose by 58% to $3.87bn, but its profits increased by a more modest 28%, to $925m. This is due to the fact that Google has spent heavily on acquisitions as well as on increasing its headcount to develops new products and enters new markets.
But its biggest outlays were acquisitions - Google made eight purchases, most notably the $3.1bn DoubleClick deal and the purchase of online security firm Postini for $625m.
Google added over 1,500 staff in the quarter. That takes its total headcount to 13,786, a 74% increase in the last 12 months.
The company also upped its spending on R&D by 88%.
Google is not transparent when it comes to revealing the %revenue shared with Adsense publishers. Considering the fact that it paid 1.15 billion $ as Traffic Acquisition Costs (TAC) [the portion of ad revenues Google pays to its publishing partners and affiliates], the commission comes out to be roughly around 40%.

Key findings from data reported for Q2 2007 include:
The overall industry average click fraud rate was 15.8 percent for Q2 2007. This is an increase from 14.1 percent for the same quarter in 2006 and 14.8 percent for Q1 2007.

Traffic from botnets doubled from Q1 to Q2 2007 and contributed significantly to the increase in click fraud rates.

The report says that growing use of botnets is making the problem worse, with traffic from botnets doub
Milestones in data backup evolution 2007-07-20 04:47:14 Punch cards can be considered as the first data storage devices for backup
. They date back to the early 1950’s, being used as a medium for storage for the UNIVAC I.
Next came the Magnetic Tapes. Since one roll of magnetic tape could store as much data as 10,000 punch cards, it achieved instant success and became the most popular way of storing of computer data until the mid 1980s.
In the 1960’s and 1970’s hard drives were not suitable for backups because of their high price, large size and low capacity. However, already in the mid 1980s hard disks could already be considered for making backups. In the early 1990s they became a real alternative for tape backups. Even today, the “battle” between tape and disk backup still rages on.
In the early 1990’s CD-R were not commonly used for backups, because of high costs. But later, when CD-ROM drive became a usual device for practically every computer and prices for compact disks tangibly fell, backup on CD became very p
rand() - Insert dummy text in word 2007-07-23 07:31:28 There exists many myths on the rand ‘virus’. Some consider it to be an Easter Egg. The truth is, it is just an un-documented MS Word function to insert dummy text
The Microsoft Knowledge Base article How to Insert Sample Text into a Document in Word [212251] explains the use and syntax of the function:
Microsoft Word allows you to quickly insert sample text into a document. To do this, type =rand() in the document where you want the text to appear, and then press ENTER.
Examples:
=rand(1,1) inserts one one-sentence paragraph of text.
=rand(10) inserts 10 five-sentence paragraphs of text.

Unavailable after …. 2007-07-25 13:13:23 Google is coming out with a new tag called “unavailable_after” which will allow people to tell Google when a particular page will no longer be available for crawling. For instance, if you have a special offer on your site that expires on a particular date, you might want to use the ‘unavailable_after’ tag to let Google know when to stop indexing it. Or perhaps you write articles that are free for a particular amount of time, but then get moved to a paid-subscription area of your site. This would also be appropriate for promotional pages where the promotions expire after a given time.
The TAG would look something like
< META name=’unavailable_after’ content=Sun, 12 Aug 2007 00:01:00 GMT’>

How much is your website worth ? 2007-07-25 12:49:44 CyberWyre has developed a tool to evaluate the value of a website
based on the site’s Alexa Ranking, Page Rank, Backlinks (from Yahoo, ATW and Altavista). It provides a rough estimate on the value of your site. It’s pretty much similar to the ‘How much is your blog worth’ tool based on the Technorati’s API, but throws up a different result. CyberWire tool indexes the site based on multiple params. and not just one factor like in the technorati tool.
It also shows an estimate of how much you can probably earn by Text Link Advertising, Affiliate Marketing etc..Check out Website Value Calculator

Wait! Dont throw away that old cell phone! 2007-07-25 11:55:54 CellForCash.com offers you cash for your old cell phone
s. Cell for cash currently accepts mobiles from most manufacturers. So, if you have a cell phone lying around the house which is of no use, sell a cell phone to CellForCash.com .. They also have a referral scheme in which you can earn 5$ per referral. I think it is a flat $5 per referral, meaning if you get 20 friends to join, you get 100$. It did help sell my old cell phone
Herez a testimonial from their site
“My experience with Cell for Cash has been very pleasurable. This is my second transaction and it is so simple and completely worth the 5 minutes of time that it took me. The best part is that Cell for Cash does all the work from sending the box with the return postage already paid to sending an email when each step is completed. I have recommended Cell for Cash to all of my friends and family. If I have the opportunity again I will chose Cell for Cash in a heart beat! ” - S.M. North Andover, MA

HD : The difference is obvious 2007-07-28 03:01:43 Although the HD specifications date back to the 80’s, it has just gained popularity now. High Definition videos are surely a treat to the eye and once you’ve tasted it, it’s really hard to go back. I stumbled upon this torrent at btjunkie and downloaded some HD music videos. I must say, they rock.. Same goes for HD movies with 5.1 audio. Watching movies in HD and with surround sound is a totally different ball game.

Community-developed Web search 2007-07-30 12:36:27 Wikipedia founder Jimmy Wales is putting the building blocks in place for a ‘community-developed Web search’ service that would rival search engines such as Google or Yahoo.
Wales told a conference of software developers in Portland, Oregon, that his commercial start-up, Wikia, has acquired Grub from LookSmart Ltd, a pioneering Web crawler that will enable Wikia’s forthcoming search service to scour the Web to index relevant sites.
Human editors would help untangle terms with multiple meanings, such as palm, which can refer to location like Palm Beach, or generic topics like trees or handheld computers.
