YouTube offers publishers Adsense in videos
2007-09-30 13:06:54
Enhance your site with high quality, relevant video content from YouTube partners, and earn extra revenue along the way…. That’s the whole idea of Google. YouTube now offers website publishers to create a custom video player and add their adsense code to deliver targeted ads atop the video being played. Web Publishers can also choose the category of video to be shown, or let Google automatically target ads based on the content. The text-based ads would be shown above the video player, which can also be customized to match the look and feel of the publisher’s website. At the time of writing this post, this feature is available only for a select few registered YouTube users. You’ll need to sign up for an AdSense account to start using Video Units. Google pursuing new technologies to protect the privacy of Internet users
2007-09-28 06:58:23
Google ’s chief legal officer, David Drummond, testified that the company was looking at the Internet display advertising business with a “fresh eye and evaluating whether changes can be made to innovate on user privacy in this space.” Critics say Google’s $3.1 billion acquisition of DoubleClick, an advertising tools supplier, may give the company too much power over online advertising. Google stores mounds of data on Internet-surfing habits of users and uses the information to make money by selling advertisements. Share This

Windows XP will keep selling for 5 more months
2007-09-28 06:47:36
Microsoft announced that it will keep selling its Windows XP operating system until the end of June 2008. Microsoft said it decided to extend XP sales in response to feedback from computer manufacturers who said there were customers who still wanted to buy the older operating system. Some customers have voiced displeasure with Vista due to a lack of compatibility with existing software programs and devices. The hardware requirements needed to run Vista also are a significant upgrade from many older computers. Microsoft, however, downplayed any dissatisfaction with Vista, saying it is the fastest-selling operating system in the history of Microsoft. As of the end of June, Microsoft had sold more than 60 million Windows Vista licenses. Share This

Microsoft Windows Live Coolhotmail.com review
2007-10-03 07:36:19
“Get a unique e-mail ID that reflects your personality” says Microsoft ’s new coolhotmail.com - an endeavor to lure more Indians into using Hotmail.   There are in all, over 250 custom domains ( like yourname@bangalorerocks.in , you@ilovecricket.in etc. ) Although the idea is a novel one, i don’t find many takers. Mostly everyone would prefer to use an existing ID. And like Thilak said, anyone serious enough about a unique email ID would get their own domain name. ATi Catalyst Drivers 7.10 released
2007-10-16 12:40:00
There’s some new Catalyst Drivers (7.10) at AMD’s site.. To begin with, the new catalyst driver will have Adaptive Anti-Aliasing enabled for Radeon X1000 series of graphics cards. This release of Catalyst™ also introduces software CrossFire™ support for the ATI Radeon™ HD 2600 Series and ATI Radeon™ HD 2400 Series. Also, one pretty important fix with this release of Catalyst drivers is the “CrossFire Undo”. There was an issue where CrossFire mode would disable on its own, even if everything was ok. Now, the drivers would detect if something is wrong with the CrossFire cable, and if everything is ok, Crossfire mode will be activated. [ DRIVER DOWNLOADS PAGE ] (more…) Share This

Shutdown Windows XP faster
2007-10-14 13:31:12
It gets on one’s nerve when you have to wait for minutes for XP to shutdown, when it takes lesser time for a boot. The reason that the shutdown times increase over the days is due to the services and applications that keep increasing as you install new software. Windows waits for each service to terminate and only then does it shutdown. Here are some simple registry tweaks that will reduce the shutdown time of your PC running XP considerably. [HKEY_CURRENT_USERControl PanelDesktop] “HungAppTimeout”=”200″   (ms) “WaitToKillAppTimeout”=”200″ (ms) “AutoEndTasks”=”1″ (Yes) Run kill_app.reg [HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESYSTEMCurrentControlSetControl] “WaitToKillServiceTimeout”=”200″  (ms) Run kill_service.reg Another way for a quick shutdown is to make a shortcut to “shutdown -s -t 0″. Make a shortcut or a batch file and place it in your desktop. Since this eliminates the need to

Disabling Windows Security Center Alerts in XP
2007-10-20 08:33:14
If you’re running Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) Windows Security Center should tell you the status of your antivirus software, firewall, and automatic updates. Security Center will alert you if your antivirus is out of date or turned off, firewall is turned off, or if Automatic Update is not turned on. This can get quite annoying after a while. To turn off Security Center alerts : 1. Click Start and then click Control Panel. 2. Double-click Security Center. 3. In the Security Center, under Resources, click Change the way Security Center alerts me. 4. In the Alert Settings dialog box, clear the Firewall, Automatic Updates, or Virus Protection check boxes, and then click OK. Share This

Blu-ray has a 2:1 lead over HD DVDs
2007-10-24 09:19:31
Blu-ray outsells HD-DVD in U.S. for first 9 months. According to Home Media Research, sales of Blu-ray titles from January 1st to September 30th of this year now total 2.6-million units, while the HD DVD camp has moved some 1.4-million flicks in the same period. Paramount Home Video said that “Transformers” had the biggest debut of any high-definition titles, selling over 100,000 HD-DVDs on Oct 16, its first day of release. Tom Adams, president of Adams Media Research, also said the 18-month period of exclusivity for HD-DVDs by Paramount and DreamWorks should strengthen HD-DVD’s hand this quarter. “This definitely smooths out the edge that Blu-ray had in exclusive titles and it very much strengthens HD-DVD’s hand in the fourth quarter,” he said, but still expects Blu-ray will lead for the year overall. Adams predicts that for 2007 overall, consumers will spend $186 million purchasing Blu-ray discs, versus $91 million for HD-DVD. One big facto

Facebook may soon overtake MySpace
2007-10-27 11:57:48
MySpace and Facebook continue to lead the pack as the two most popular social networking sites but for the first time, it also seems fairly clear that Facebook will soon overtake MySpace in overall usage, particularly as it offers a richer overall platform powered by a large and vibrant community of 3rd party application developers. Facebook’s open architecture takes this concept to a whole new level and allows existing Web businesses to plug directly into their social infrastructure with their own Facebook applications. These apps can be standalone or integrated across the Web from Facebook back to the online business. The interest in integrating with Facebook has been high.  As a result, over 5,100 Facebook applications have been developed to date that run the gamut from games and fashion to education and productivity software. Google’s PageRank update
2007-10-26 14:25:18
The latest updation of PageRank hasnt been good to bloggers. Google has started penalizing blogs and websites which sell text links. The primary audience for many of these sites are bloggers. These sites derive their popularity from others who are quite likely being penalized. Now that the algorithm has been changed and all those links have lost their juice, the popular blogging niche sites are losing Page Rank as a byproduct. It is unclear if this is due to a change in the algorithm or due to intentional penalization for selling text links on the sites. Share This

Friends Information Activities / Feeds etc. Open Social is an open web API that can be supported by two kinds of developers: “Containers” — social networking systems like Ning, Orkut, LinkedIn, Hi5, and Friendster, and… “Apps” — applications that want to be embedded within containers — for example, the kinds of applications built by iLike, Flixster, Rockyou, and Slide Facebook requires the use of FBML (FaceBook Markup Language) for security reasons.
