Haunted Hotel Tour
2006-10-19 22:31:22
Going ghost hunting in a graveyard or in a hotel may not be everyone’s cup of tea. Not everyone likes having to wait all night just to get a chance to possibly hear or see something. Luckily for anyone who doesn't want to wait until the last chime of mid-night for the headless butler to trip down the stairs, there is The R&R Station Restaurant and Hotel in Mt. Pleasant. The owner Sherry Wingrove has a certified haunted house on her hands and it sounds like a lot of fun. Thereare tours of the hotel complete with live-action retellings of the ghost stories made in the hotel. The Haunted Hotel is open weekends all October for Halloween.

Hotel Room lost in time
2006-10-17 23:49:02
There is only one thing cooler than a haunted hotel room, and that is a hotel room that was sealed up and lost for 40 years! The search for a leaky water pipe led to the recent discovery of a hidden room at the former West Virginian Hotel in Bluefield. Maintenance worker Dan Kirby was knocking down a wall looking for pipes two weeks ago when he found an entire room. The room had news clippings from the 30s, vintage bottle caps and crates, and no one had any idea this room was there, the architectural drawings of the former hotel have long been lost.

Pet friendly hotels on the rise
2006-10-12 23:02:25
If you didn’t already know, the hotel business is big business. We are not talking small change here, we are talking about a $113 billion industry, and the hotel owners are always looking for more ways to make a few extra dollars. Luckily for pet owners - 19% who like to take your pet on vacation - are finally being heard. After years of being over looked, AAA is reporting that pet friendly hotels are on the rise. The amount of pet friendly hotels has grown 28% since 1999! That is more than 13,000 hotels all over the USA. Not only are a lot of these hotels accepting pets, a lot of them are spoiling pets rotten. It is win-win for everyone! So the next time you are going on vacation don’t get discouraged about leaving your pet at home, find yourself a nice Pet Friendly Hotel! Just beware. If you end up at the Hotel Vendome in Prescott Arizona, and you happen to get room 16, you may want to look out for Noble the cat. He isn’t just a cat wondering the halls of the hotel,

Nicky O. South Beach and a few ghostly treats
2006-10-11 17:28:54
Nicky Hilton is bringing high fashion to faucets in her new Nicky O. South Beach hotel. Nicky O. South Beach is teaming up with Brizo Faucets to complete the look and feel this new boutique hotel wants to bring to Ocean Drive. The Brizo Faucets promise innovative bath and shower designs and state-of-the art technology and craftsmanship. Some of the Brizo Products to be featured in the Nicky O. South Beach hotel are the Loki powder room faucet and Brizo custom shower systems. The faucets look really nice; it would be interesting to see how the rest of the rooms turn out. Obviously they will be just as classy…like the news tickers in the lobby. That being said I wouldn’t mind staying in such a clean, comfortable hotel. Speaking of clean comfortable hotels, I was surfing the web and found an interesting hotel review for the Ramada Plaza Hotel in Fond Du Lac Wisconsin. Let me start out by saying it’s a great Ramada with clean rooms, and friendly staff. However, in the mid

Spooks, and ghouls, and ghosts oh my!
2006-10-10 22:31:59
With Halloween just on the horizon I thought it would be fun to take a look at the darker side of hotels. No, this is not an undercover report about how unclean some hotel is. Today I am all about haunted houses and haunted hotels! I’m sure a lot of people are rolling their eyes right no thinking there is no such thing as a ghosts , no real haunted houses and it is all just made up! So sure, you may have never seen a ghost, but you’ve never seen the wind right? We all know that wind is real, so why not just humor me and keep reading. There are houses, old schools, hotels, even entire towns that are said to be haunted all over the world, each one of them with their own unique stories. A young child can be heard running around upstairs, lights turning on and off, articles of clothing mysterious disappearing and turning up in strange places, the faint image of a beautiful young lady in the window. One thing they all have in common is people swear that what they have seen is rea

Hotel bathroom changes
2006-09-26 16:35:51
According the ConsumerAffairs.Com hotel guests who enjoy a relaxing bath to collect their thoughts at the end of a hard business meeting will have to request a bathtub in advance. I never thought it would happen, but it is. Over 5,000 hotels across North America are replacing their bathtub/shower combination, a combination known and loved by millions of people, and replacing them with giant walk-in showers. Many of these new stylish walk-in showers even include better showerheads and curved curtain rods to provide even more space. So why would hotels want to rip up their bathroom ? Well economic reasons mostly. Showers consume less water, removing the bathtubs lowers hotel insurance premiums, shower stalls are easier to clean, and fancier shower stalls justify room rate increases.

Thunder Bay Adventures
2006-09-25 20:24:43
I got in one more road trip before winter sets in this weekend. A friend and I took a drive to Thunder Bay Ontario to return my summer roommates’ car to him. He had to leave it with us when he went back to school because the car was in the shop. The drive up there was fun…but scary. Fun because we had some crazy tunes cranked in “Trooper” the purple car and it is always fun to be driving on a highway. That is until the highway is wet and there are semi trucks trying to run you over. We rolled into Thunder Bay around 4:00am, which by the way is way to late/early to be driving. We ended up crashing at our friend’s apartment in Thunder Bay until the morning and then we checked in at the Days Inn Thunder Bay. It was the perfect spot to stay, not just because the room was really comfortable, it was also close to everything we wanted to see including Confederation College where our friend takes film production. If you are ever in Thunder Bay you have to go to

Cousteau puts his name behind Eco-hotel complex
2006-09-22 21:37:51
Developer Sea Mountain Five and Jean-Michel Cousteau’s Ocean Futures Society are planning to develop a new 434-acre eco-hotel in Punaluu on the Big Island. The current infrastructure and golf course on the site was a project started in the early 70s but never saw completion. The new developement plan proposes to renovate, renew, and update the old infrastructure. Not only will the new resort be an eco-friendly resort complete with Marine conservation and Hawaiian cultural center, renovated golf course, coastal preservation programs, it will also sport single and mutlifamily residences, and retail/commerical areas. The resort also is expected to generate at least 517 new jobs for residents of the island and the development team is working with the local community to create programs that would allow for some of the proceeds of the project to go into improving current local facilities and programs. I hope that eco-friendly hotels and resorts start growing in popularity. We are alrea

Hotel Bed Jumping
2006-09-21 22:42:51
Quite frankly Hotel Bed Jumping could be the next Olympic sport. Anyone who has ever been stuck in a boring hotel room unable to fall asleep at night should really try this. It is something we all did as kids (or at least should have!!), and it is something that makes hotel rooms great. Soft, springy, firm, the kind of mattress doesn’t matter, what matters is that when you are leaping into the air you let go, feel the that split second of weightlessness before you come crashing down onto that bed - that bed of glory! If you are lucky you will be will friends or family who will be able to capture your amazing feats of momentary acrobatic might, otherwise I suggest on your next business trip you bring a tri-pod and camera along , that way you can capture the moments yourself. Needless to say everyone should go over and check out Hotel Bed Jumping HQ. I promise the next time I’m in a hotel room I will be making my mark on the hotel bed jumping world. Just you wait world just

Spoil your pets on vacation
2006-09-20 22:12:20
I remember going on school trips way back when with memories of being stuck in a double bed with another person all in the name of saving money. I remember having to fight for blankets in an awkward under the sheets, over the sheets battle for warmth while still trying to maintain your ‘manliness’. Yes, I look back on those memories and think to myself, wow I’m glad I was small enough to fit in a bathtub. So where is this all going? Right, Pet friendly hotels! Pets…Kids…both are really loud, and you end up spending all your money on them… The Travelodge hotel chain in England is starting to offer up pet-sized luxury beds complete with a mattress, pillow, and even a duvet. According to the BBC the swanky pet digs will be given a trial run in hotels in Birmingham, Newcastle, Liverpool, and Nottingham. Travelodge is making your pets more comfortable than a 16 year old on a school band trip. What ever happened to pets sleeping at the end of your bed darn

Stay one night, pay with…sheep?
2006-10-23 16:26:42
I’ve always had a dream of living of life trading goods for services and vice versa. I came close for about 6 months when I had friends working all over the city and I got free pizza, slurpees, and movie rentals, in the end though living off slurpees and pizza may sound tasty, but really doesn’t work in the staying healthy/alive department. Then I heard about Bill Ward, a hotel owner in the UK who will let farmers who are short of cash to settle their bill with livestock. Oh yes, Ward will trade a room at the Dunsely Hall Country House Hotel in Whitby for anything from cows, pigs, sheep, and even hay! Normally it costs £80 a night to stay at the three star Dunsley Hall Country House Hotel in Whitby, North Yorks Bill, 62, said: “People have been bartering since ancient times. “There’s no reason someone couldn’t walk up to the hotel leading a cow. Trying to get a farmer to part with money is difficult and we’re always looking for ways to incre

Hyatt Hotel wake up calls
2006-10-24 18:35:07
If you are staying at any Hyatt Hotel s within the next month and you request a wake-up call you just may here the soothing voice of beautiful super model Christie Brinkley’s on the other end of the phone. It is the perfect way to start their new customized wake-up service which includes the option to record your own wake-up message. That means if you wanted to you could have your little son or daughter’s voice reminding you that you have to wake-up and go get presents before you make the trip home. I think the idea is great, and what makes it even greater is that for the first month of the service Hyatt Hotels will be donating $1 per call to the Make-A-Wish Foundation. For more information about the new Hyatt Wake-Up Service check out http://www.hyattwakeup.com.

Historic Holly Hotel Séance
2006-10-26 21:22:41
The Historic Holly Hotel has been referred to as the most haunted historic building in Michigan state. World famous ghost hunters have declared that the buidling is “loaded with spirits,” and now you can experience the ghosts of yourself. A medium will be trying to contact the ghosts that are said to haunt the 115-year-old former hotel. Anyone can take part in bone chilling séance from now until Halloween for the low price of $25. I would not mind paying to see a ghosts, but I do like a good scare every once and a while. Although I find if you are trying to find something like a ghost it never really apears, yet when you are all “This is stupid, there is no such thing as…” BAM BOO! “…AHHHHHHHH!” They just seem to find you you! souce

Happy Halloween
2006-10-31 21:14:44
Happy Halloween from everyone at HotelsByCity.net! I hope everyone is having a fun day whether you believe in ghouls and goblins or not. The best costume I’ve seen so far is sitting right across the room from me. He is dressed up like Mozilla’s FireFox…this is probably funny for people who work with the internet…but I digress. I’ve put together a list of haunted hotel articles for some nice light mid-day reading and to arm you with a few scary stories for the kids trick-or-treating tonight. Ghostly fixtures checked in at hotel - Guests come and go at the historic Albion Hotel, but Harvey and Alice are always there…It is too bad they are both long dead. Haunted Hotel - 1891 Castle Inn in New Orleans, Louisiana - Reports are that a little girl who drowned in the pond behind the house still wanders the grounds. Relaxing in Vegas
2006-10-31 20:18:57
I think everyone should hit up Las Vegas at least once in your life. Stay at a big hotel, gamble, party, enjoy yourself, stay up until 9:00 a.m. that sort of thing. But what about folks who have done the Vegas thing before, or are just there for a wedding and want to relaxing weekend that doesn’t involve being surrounded by sweaty 20-somethings at bachelour party living out the “What happens in Vegas stays in Vegas” mantra? Well these folks can hit up the new Platinum Hotel in Spa. It is a beautiful new condominium hotel just off the Strip near the Bellagio and Caesars Palace. The suites include luxuries such as 42-inch televisions, WiFi internet access, electric fireplaces, terraces, and even whirlpool baths. You can have dinner at their class in-hotel resaurant, spend the day in the spa realigning your shockra, and the best part about it - no casino. Seems like a crazy concept for Vegas but maybe it is just what the city needed. But if you are in the mood for a nice

Hotel Employees don't get enough credit
2006-11-02 21:55:06
Hotel employees work long hours for very little pay and even less credit . Talk to ten people and you will probably find at least five who have a negative hotel story. The problem with people is we tend to remember the negative and forget the good things. In fact, there are even websites devoted to painting the picture of hotel horrors. A majority of these complaints are very valid and should be taken seriously. Honestly though, sometimes people complain for the wrong reason and blame employees for something they have absolutely no control over. A good example of this is construction on the streets outside the hotel ruining a vacation. Yes that would be bad, but you cannot necessarily blame the hotel and its staff because they do not control when a city decides to fix a street. We should also take into account that the hotel staff tends to get it bad from both ends a lot of the time. Guests complain that they don’t get the service they should, bosses complain that their staff is

Dirty Dancing in Chennai India Hotels
2006-11-07 22:45:18
Police arrested three employees at a posh hotel in Chennai India on Sunday night, charging them with organizing entertainment for guests without a valid license. Police said a team that inspected the hotel around 10 p.m. found girls performing a disco dance in a hall where liquor was also being served to the guests. The police arrested the hotel employees and are on the lookout for the hotelier. Cases under Section 34 and 76 of City Police Act have been registered. Further investigation is on. I’m having flash backs to Footloose and Dirty Dancing right now. You have to respect the laws no matter how upscale your hotel may be. Hotel promoters are willing to adhere to the strict regulations, but want the Government to take note of the changing face of Chennai and adjust the rules and regulations accordingly.
