Where's the Rooster? 2008-04-25 17:06:00 If you're wondering where the header of my site is ... I was wondering the same thing! It turns out that the site my image is hosted on has exceeded it's bandwith; that's not good. I may be looking for an alternate way to keep my header without that image hosting :)

Monte Albán, Mexico 2008-04-25 15:56:00 When the Nava's traveled to Cuidad Juarez, Mexico
to complete the consular process Mr. Nava took a short trip to his family's home deep south in the Mexican state of Oaxaca. He and his family visited Monte
Albán together. These are just a few of the photos of Monte Albán that I scanned; crooked ... I know, but still beautiful! (That's Mr. Nava waiving in the 1st photo)Monte Albán was one of the first cities of Mesoamerica established around 500 B.C. and lasted until 750 A.D. This place was is a popular tourist destination in southern Mexico and must have been a popular place to live back in the day because it was said to be a hugely populated city.Oaxaca is also the birth place of Mexico's most beloved president, Benito Juarez. Juarez was the first president without a military backgroun
I Dream About Death&Money ... and BOOM! 2008-04-24 17:54:00 Here I was blogging about just how shitty of a week this is, well don't ask how, but it got worse.Anyone who reads my blog may remember a few entries about the Nava's, if not then here are the links to those posts: Good Luck in Cuidad Juarez, Mexico and Good News for the Nava Family.I had a break at work this morning around 10:30, so I called up Mrs. Nava and this is what I heard:Mrs. Nava: HelloMe: Hey whatcha doin?Mrs. Nava: Lisa I have something to tell you.Me: What?Mrs. Nava: Mom died.Mrs. Nava's mother was 44 years old and even though she had multiple schlerosis, her death was very unexpected. The cause of death is still unknown.According to Mrs. Nava the family sat down on monday to eat a salad together. The following two days both Mrs. Nava and her mother were sick. This morning when Read more:Dream

It's Only Humpday? 2008-04-23 17:24:00 I don't even know what to say about this week, it's been sooooo crappy. I didn't feel good over the weekend which led into the week and seems to be easing up a little bit, not much. I'm just having a lot of kidney problems, stones, infections, etc. at the moment and it's really changed my daily routines and I can't even go shopping because of the pain. That really hurts!Monday ... I called into work and told 'em I was sick. I stayed home going between the computer, the bed, the porch, and the couch. It was a really bad day. The Mexican came home from work and demanded the remote control, which pissed me off from the get go so I decided to go to bed.Around 10 p.m. he wakes me up with his loud shower and ticks me off again because I was having a really good dream.I dreamed I was helping some
I-864 & Other News 2008-04-22 01:31:00 I stayed home from work today because I felt really bad and believe I have yet another kidney infection but, anyway, I went to check the mail today to find two envelopes from the National Visa Center.Apparently this is supposed to be the Affadavit of Support Packet but where's the packet? They sent me a $400 Visa bill and instructions on how to go to the website, read more instruction, download and print my own AOS application. You really get some bang for the money huh?Are they really that cheap that they can't send me the forms? I called up my buddy, Mrs. Nava, to ask her if they sent her the same thing and she said they sent her the forms. Her idea was that maybe they just didn't want to send us the wrong form and maybe this is a new thing. My idea ... well if they don't know what to send
I Love Quizzes 2008-04-21 10:34:00 I sometimes start looking up things and get side-tracked, today was one of those days. I'm glad I did fall off track because I was highly amused by a few of these quizzes I stumbled across. So if you need a break, take a fun quiz! (if you married avoid the dating draw lol)First off I found this blog rating quiz and because I do use a lil foul language from time to time, I wondered how my spot on the web would rank ... so here's my rating:This Page is RatedPG-13La Gringa Mas Bella Lets101 - Free Online Dating NetworkAnd the Mexican completely agress with this next one no doubt ...Lets101 - Free Online DatingAnd with the presidential election coming up soon and the candidate looking weary, I couldn't resist this one. Oh, the Love Affair is Over ... 2008-04-21 09:13:00 Lastnight the Mexican and I got into a lil debate about Jessica Alba's roots. The Mexican said that Alba is Mexican, 100%."No she's not", I said."Si, los padres son Mexicanos", he said.Okay so I thought that one of her parents were Mexican but not both, then we did a google search to find out the truth.I hate to say, but I was right. Jessica Alba only has one Mexican parent and that's her father. Alba's mother is of French and Danish descent. The search for Alba's heritage also led us to a website with an article that talked about a comment Alba made about her Mexican heritage that has the Mexican bien enojado.I thought, initially, that this was great that he was pissed at Alba because every time the kids go to bed the Mexican looks through the list of recorded movies on the DVR to watch In Read more:Affair
Award: The Blog of Distinction 2008-04-20 21:26:00 I didn't wake up this morning and think, today I'll get an award ... but I did. What a way to start out the week. My head will be so inflated at work tomorrow that my boss will probably send me out to run errands all day.So what is "The Blog of Distinction Award
"?Apparently this prestigious award was created by Working Mum on the Verge to honor blogs that make you, "think, laugh, cry or sigh." The only rule is you should pass it to another 5 blogs. And I have to pass this honor to 5 other blogs ... geesh why not make it really hard, I read so many blogs and most of 'em I don't even comment on much-my God I'm a lurker. I do enjoy them though and when you like something you're supposed to acknowledge it. So here goes ...The Blog of Distinction is being passed onto the following 5 achievers:1
Special Cinco de Mayo Sneakers 2008-04-20 18:48:00 Are you thinking Adidas or Nike? If you're not, well, maybe you should be. I doubt very seriously that I will go out and buy these for myself but the kids really like 'em. They are especially for Cinco de Mayo! (Notice the cool '5' on the strap)In an article from the Sneaker Files I learned that Adidas will combine two celebrations using the Adidas Forum Low, it's 25th Anniversary and Cinco de Mayo. Adidas also plans to release a few more items marking the 25 years and Cinco de Mayo like Adidas Superstar and tracsuit. And ofcourse Nike also has to make their mark to celebreat Cinco de Mayo too with the release of these really cool sneakers that I love. They didn't stop there though ...These are the ones that have 'Mexico' on the heel I think. All of these sneakers can be yours for the price Read more:Special

Hello Rooster Template! 2008-04-20 16:25:00 Well I did warn that if you came over and noticed the blog wasn't looking quite the same it's because I was playing with templates. And boy did I play.I bit off a bit more than I could chew really because for me ... changing a template can be an all day long thing. So little by little I did it. I found about three that I like and tried to upload them and it just either didn't look right, didn't work and I had to mess with them or they looked just as tired as the old template so I trashed 'em. Until I found the rooster.(evil laugh)You see, I'm kinda a rooster fanatic anyway. You might not believe this but my kitchen is decorated with roosters everywhere. Most of my friends, married to Mexicans anyway, have those lil red chili peppers all over the kitchen or Mexico memorabilia. I love rooste Read more:Rooster

Saving My Life ... Losing with LaGringa 2008-04-20 10:21:00 I know this post is a lil out of the blue but today I've been bouncing around reading blogs, looking at profiles, etc. and I keep seeing people who just post their pics up ... seemingly proudly. I hate posting pictures of me though. Why? All of my life I've had a weight problem. At birth I weighed 7lbs. and 4oz. and I grew like babies do until around the age of 3 the doctors told my parents I had kidney reflux. I didn't eat much and my Mom was really worried about it. I can remember her force feeding me in the corner so I eventually developed a taste for food and that coupled with kidney medication added a lot of weight.I was a heavy lil tike all through grade school, most of Jr. High and then one summer I went haywire. I went from a size 18 down to a comfy size 11/12.I felt really sexy too Read more:Saving

Mexican, Hispanic, Latino: Does it Matter? 2008-04-16 19:29:00 Some people may argue that saying Mexican
, Hispanic
or Latino
doesn't matter, while others say that it does matter. So which is right or wrong? In my own experience with Mexicans, Hondurans, Cubans and Puerto Ricans ... it matters.Today a friend, Mrs. Nava, that I've blogged about before called me up and we talked about what she says when she tells someone that her husband is Mexican. Mrs. Nava said that she answers one of two ways, "My husband is Hispanic" or "My husband is Mexican".She admits that her husband would rather her say, "My husband is Mexican".So this afternoon when the Mexican came home from work I asked him what I should say if someone asks about his nationality. Should I say, "My husband is Mexican" or "My husband is Hispanic" and last but not least, "My husband is Latino".H
The Mexican Loves Email! 2008-04-14 21:25:00 If you're wondering just who the Mexican
is, well he's my husband Juan. He calls me Gringa and I call him Mexican. Anyone can call me Gringa, I don't mind at all but he would probably be pissed if a stranger started a conversation calling him a Mexican. It's like a white person calling a black person the "N" word. Other black people that black person knows can call them the "N" word but coming from someone else, well it's just not the same.So if you're not up to date on cultural diversity, trust me, don't approach Mexicans calling them that. It's not kosher. Anyway ...I got home from the doctor's office this afternoon and the Mexican wasn't home. I called him up to see where he was and, as usual, he was at my elderly friend's house Mrs. Susie. I checked my email, posted my experience with Read more:Email
Today's Appointment with Dr. Savage 2008-04-14 18:08:00 Today was a day that I both looked forward to and dreaded. My kidney stones are some complicated lil boogers so my kidney doctor sent me to a urologist at MUSC (Medical University of South Carolina).Since my back hurts soooo bad the Mexican was gonna go with me but when he got to work this morning, he was the only one there. So he couldn't take me. So I called his brother's girlfriend Becky and asked her if she could ride with me, possibly drive and she said she would. This weekend I had an upset tummy (I know, TMI) but I had gas and the sour burps ... yes it happens to me too, I'm only human. My boss said about 10:00 go to the store and get something because you just look like you don't feel good.So I did.At 12:00 I left work, met Becky at my house, grabbed my films, reports from the hospi Read more:Today

MySpace Homework: Sex Facts & Related 2008-04-13 02:18:00 Since I'm kinda new to MySpace
I've been surfing the web looking at layouts and funny things to post in bulletins, etc. The following is just a lil piece of some of the shocking things I have found to share. Some of this stuff is really off the wall!*In Lebanon, men are legally allowed to have sex with animals, but the animals must be female. Having sexual relations with a male animal is punishable by death. (Like THAT makes sense.)*In Bahrain, a male doctor may legally examine a woman's genitals, but is prohibited from looking directly at them during the examination. He may only see their reflection in a mirror.*Muslims are banned from looking at the genitals of a corpse. This also applies to undertakers; the sex organs of the deceased must be covered with a brick or piece of wood at all Read more:Homework
DirecTV: Repair the Automated System! 2008-04-12 18:54:00 I like to pay bills via telephone and DirecTV
has problems with their automated system ... for more than a year. This is what I went through today (Saturday) and one day every month!I call the automated system and answer all the questions about 'do you have DirecTV service? blah, blah, blah' and then the system says 'please use a few words to explain your call today' and I say ...Me: Pay my bill.AutomatedSystem
: Sure we can process your payment today, pause, dial tones, hold one moment while I transfer your call.(Ringing as call is transferred)Customer Service Rep: Thank you for calling DirecTV. My name is Mae (I think). How can I assist you today?Me: I tried to pay my bill using the automated system but it transferred me to you.Customer Service Rep: I'm sorry m'aam. Will You Be My Friend? 2008-04-11 16:22:00 One time I had a MySpace account but I didn't like anything about it so I deleted it and started fresh. Summer is coming and I'll have lots of time to really dig into things like my blog and MySpace so if you have a MySpace account add me on your friends list. Here's my new MySpace! If the link doesn't work all you have to do is type in myspace.com/lagringamasbella to get there. One thing I like about MySpace is that there are soooo many people there. It is a social networking site so I guess there should be lots of people huh?I've had my profile up for less than a week and have already found a couple of groups that support immigration reform, etc. And because I'm a closet shopaholic I've found some really neat people who write about fashion; their stuff is pretty good.Happy MySpace! See ya
Good News for the Nava Family 2008-03-28 00:08:00 A couple of weeks ago I blogged about a friend of mine who would be traveling to Cuidad Juarez, Mexico for "the appointment". All of us had long anticipated "the appointment" for a long time and even though we hoped for the best, the beginning of this long trip was ever so bitter sweet. No one knew if the Nava family would return together or not. Thank God everything went well and Mr. Nava was legally permitted to return to the U.S. and as you can see in the photo below ... he was extremely happy. The following pictures were taken by the couple during their week long stay in Cuidad Juarez.Of course, it all started at the border ... the couple flew from Charleston, South Carolina into El Paso, Texas where they met a trusted cab driver who drove them across the border into Cuidad Juarez safely Read more:Family

Here's to My Husband's Spanglish ... 2008-03-20 20:04:00 I love my husband soooo much but sometimes his English is really ucked fup, it's bass ackwards, lol. Cheers to my husband, the Mexican, for having a sense of humor!A U.S. Border Patrol Agent catches an illegal Mexican man in the bushes right by the border fence. He pulls him out and says, "Sorry man, you know the law. You're going back across the border right now buddy."The Mexican man begs him, "No, no señor. I must stay in el America por favor!"The agent thinks to himself ... I'm going to make it hard for him and says, "Ok, I'll let you stay if you can use 3 English words in a sentence."The illegal Mexican man agress right away. The Border Patrol Agent tells him, "the three words are: green, pink and yellow. Now use all of them in one sentence."The illegal Mexican man thinks really hard Read more:Husband

Joke of the Day! 2008-03-20 19:54:00 I'm married to a Mexican but I still like Mexican jokes. I love this joke because it cracks on Uncle Sam ... enjoy!A 7.5 Earthquake Hits Mexico.150,000 Mexicans die and over a million are injured. Mexico is in total ruin and the government doesn't know where to start with providing help to rebuild. The rest of the world rises to their aid. Canada sends troopers to help the Mexican army control the riots. The European community sends food and money. The United States, not to be outdone, sent 150,000 replacement Mexicans. Are You Afraid of E-verify? 2008-03-20 19:15:00 Lately I've heard a lot of people talking about E-verify
. If you don't know what E-verify is, well, in laymans terms E-verify is a computer based program that helps businesses screen potential employees and confirm their employment status. It determines whether a person is legally able to work in the U.S. by confirming their Social Security number. Most of the conversations have either been speculation about how many employers will actually use E-verify, how many employers are actually using E-verify now and ,one day, will it become a requirement that all businesses use E-verify?I don't have the answers to all of those questions but I have my own opinion. I don't think that anyone has a lot to worry about E-verify because of the natural course of change.I read an article titled E-verify Ina
Ruling: English-only sign at cheesesteak shop not discriminatory 2008-03-19 23:10:00 I could not believe the ruling on this case ... I still can't. Personally it's really offensive and I wouldn't want to see signs like this. Apparently some people are looking at this outcome and rejoicing over a victory for freedom of speech. O' Brother Where Art Thou 2008-04-29 00:43:00 Sometimes I blog about my childhood and life in Kentucky, this is one of those posts. Those times were not always peachy and I'll be the first to admit that a lot of things that happened in my childhood have haunted my adulthood. And one of those things just happens to be my lil half brother.I haven't seen him since 1997.This story begins when my mom and dad divorced. My mom says, to this day, that she left me with my daddy because he just couldn't have handled losing his wife and his child at the same time. A little girl still needs her momma though. It was hard for me and daddy. Imagine an 11 year old in charge of keeping house!I can remember the time when my daddy had to wear pink socks because I washed something red in the whites. I laugh about it now but, at the time, it wasn't funny b Read more:Brother
Chicano Sex Ed ... Already? 2008-04-28 20:47:00 I'm American, my husband is Mexican and that makes my boys straight up Chicano (I think). I hate to think about sex education but I may have to ... the only problem is that I find myself absolutely speechless and clueless. What are we teaching kids now?Plus the image below really freaks me out. What freaks me out even more are the cultural differences. In America I don't think that we are traditional anymore when it comes to talking to our children about sex. I can remember what my mom did, she gave me a book about womanhood with explicit cartoonish like images. Very graphic I might add.Granted Caleb is nine years old and Jordan will be seven next week, they've been exposed to something I don't approve of which has caused the Mexican and I to think too hard.Over the weekend I was really tie
My New Asus eee 2008-04-29 11:03:00 You just wouldn't believe where I'm blogging from ... downtown on my lunch break on my new Asus
eee!I can't believe it either. I'm watching an antique store owner wash his windows. Exciting I know. Some freak lookin' guy just rode by on a bike too. Well it is downtown.I am so happy with my little computer. It is soooo small. I've been meaning to post some pics I took of it to show just how small it is but I haven't uploaded them yet but if you click the "La Tienda" tab at the top of the page I have pics of them in my Amazon store on the front page.My eee is blush pink and I only payed $399 for it, it's small enough to fit in my purse. The keyboard is small, which would make it difficult for any big handed people but I'm lucky I have small hands. If anyone has an Asus ... what do you think o
Funny Pics! 2008-05-01 16:33:00 Today I was looking for a pic of the Mexican Superman. I just wanted to see what the dude looks like; is he white or moreno?I still don't know because instead I found the picture below but he doesn't look Mexican to me. I think this guy looks more like the brother of the artist formerly known as Prince. There's a slight resemblence no?Below is an ad for Absolut Vodka putting out the absolute truth? This next photo, I really feel for this guy. I mean I'm guessing he did this to himself because the love of his life maybe told him to do it? And he's still single I bet ... que pobresito. The Mexican says that this resembles a school for mechanics just around the corner of his house and boy oh boy, am I glad he didn't go!And this next one, geesh ... reminds me of something my mom would do, que po Read more:Funny
Pics of My New Asus eee 2008-04-30 22:54:00 I said I would post pics of my new Asus
eee so here they are. I was soooo happy the day it shipped to my doorstep that I really didn't take the time to set up cool shots; so this is what I got. Pay no attention to the flash reflection lol.My new Asus eee (Easy to learn, Easy to work, Easy to play) arrived in a beautiful pink box with a heart on it ... of course I was in love from the getgo. When I opened up the box I just had to snap a photo of the Asus eee in front of the box in which it came because event the box was say bigger than this lil genius.Still the photo above really doesn't do the size of this baby justice so I decided to line it up beside the standard 2 liter. If you don't know the size of a 2 liter, really, what planet have you been on?I still wasn't satisfied with the just t
Happy Birthday Jordan 2008-05-01 16:56:00 My baby Jordan
will be turning 7 years old tomorrow (May2) and he's growing sooo fast it's really hard to keep up. He went from a lil boy who wanted to go to school so bad to an all out kid who just wants to hang out with his buddies, play video games, walk the dogs every chance he gets, sing today's hottest tunes and a clown always ready for photo opps. Here are a few pics of his journey over the past year or so.Preschool was an interesting time because Jordan found love! He came home and said he had a girlfriend. When I asked him what she looked like, he didn't know. So I asked him if she was black, white, Mexican, etc.He replied, she's brown I think. He didn't realize people are different. It was so cute.He was so proud of himself when he graduated kindergarten. He came home and took of Read more:Happy
