Wandering around Romagna
2007-07-09 05:23:39
Another day spent far from the relaxing beaches of Cattolica with no regrets. This morning at breakfast we considered the possibility of another day wandering around awesome Romagna’s hinterland and we decided for this option without replies. My wife Eva and I took a pair of hotel bicycles (free service, very nice service) and we headed to Rimini and its hinterland. We carried with us some travel equipment consisting in a backpack full of food and drinks, a map, a compass, some first aid stuff like bends and generic medicinals, a travel local guide and binoculars. Cycling lovers can follow a pleasant ring route (55 kilometres, 4 hours by bike) by taking the road that goes out in the direction of San Marino and Santa Maria in Cerreto, where you can follow an unsurfaced road for about 500 metres outside the town center (the crossoroads on the right). Once at Cerasolo, the route goes back onto surfaced roads and after 3 kilometres comes to a church, where you can turn into a

Malatesta’s Castles and Valleys
2007-07-08 06:43:01
During my stay in Cattolica i enjoyed some trip in the hinterland. What a marvellous surprise when i came up into several medieval small villages, each one with an awesome fortress arising in the higher point of the hill. The Marecchia and Conca Valleys still preserving astonishing countryside, alternated by villages and castles that preserve a valuable artistic and cultural heritage. These two valleys, which lie just a few kilometres from Rimini and Cattolica, have been ruled and dominated by Malatesta Seigniory. The Malatesta were one of the most influential Family Houses in the Middle Ages and also in the Renaissance. They marked the history of Italy writing the history of Romagna, the region that stands between Emilia and Marche. In these valleys, they left behind an impressive artistic and cultural heritage building up several castles and strongholds. To start with, on a rocky spur sits the medieval village of Verucchio that presents many churches and convents. And most importan

Cattolica Vacation

If you are looking for a beach with so many structures and fun opportunities then you can’t miss Adriatic Sea Beach. In particular i spent some leisure time in Cattolica, a small town at the end of Emilia Romagna region, with 3 km. of beach shore and a large choice of hotels and restaurants. I found the beach life very relaxing here: spending my time with my wife Eva, relaxing in style with all the comforts of a 3 stars family run hotel in Cattolica nearby the sea beach, with clean climatized rooms and a very good service with buffets of appetizers and international and local cooking dishes. Then i visited the center of the town with an evening walk. Jeez… What a crowd! So many people that i found some difficult to step out. We decided to adventure in some little streets around, with enough space to breathe There is a large amount of little shops, bazars, bars and restaurants (expecially referring to “pizzerie”, where you can eat a yummy piazza) . In the

A night with some witches
2007-07-12 08:59:32
A country of parties and festivals, this is how i call the land of Romagna. Every day you have a choice between 3 or 4 beach parties or you can explore the hinterland to find out some country festival. Yesterday we read the advertising flyer of a local festival called “The Night of the witches ”, in San Giovanni in Marignano, a little medieval town just 3 km. far from here. So we took our inseparable hotel bikes and we payed a visit to this event. We arrived at 9 p.m and we noticed a holy crowd darkening all the visible horizon. What a terrible sensation to walk like a herring in the oil… Anyway we step ahead, diving bravely this sea of meat. The streets around were barely illuminated by a few lamps and the atmosphere was dark and creepy. In every street was flying above us the dummy of a witch, illuminated in red or blue or green, really scaring stuff. I could hear from distance strings playing an obsessive melody. Suddenly i saw a sign with the history of this Fe
