Ka Lo Hin Restaurant Review
2007-10-19 22:16:37
A group of us went to this restaurant because of the all-you-can-eat buffet, and what i find is this: know what to expect and you won’t be disappointed. This is the ideal place for a large group with various tastes and budgets. What this place will NOT offer: a grand culinary experience, a trendy atmosphere, service excellence. But it’s a decent meal out if you plan on concentrating on the company of your friends / family. Ok, so about the food. It’s a good size buffet, there’s a chinese food section, with about 20 different warm choices, and 20 appetizer choices, as well as about 4 choices of soup. I recommend the schezuan shrimps, the crispy chicken and the soups. Then there’s the sushi section. I consider myself relatively educated in matters of sushi, and if that’s how you consider yourself, then don’t go there for the sushi. There’s your basics only: california, kamikaze and a couple other combinations. There are about 2-3 vegetarian

Weighing in on Ellen’s dog saga
2007-10-18 09:18:10
I haven’t commented on celebrity gossip in a while, but since this one involves a dog, i had to give my 2 cents. So we all know the story by now, Ellen De Generes, super funny sitcom star and talkshow darling (i’m a big fan, personally, she keeps it light, she mixes it up, she shows she cares for pets, the elderly, supports her hometown of New Orleans, she donates and gifts a lot, and she’s not afraid to get personal) is in the middle of a doggy controversy. Basically, she adopted a dog from a non-profit place called “Mutts and Moms”, but things didn’t work out, the dog didn’t get along with her cats, so she decided to give it to her hairdresser who has 2 daughters. The dog stayed there for about month, and as we all know, that’s plenty time for little girls to fall in love with their pet. Then, suddenly, turns out the non-profit place took the dog away from the hairdresser, because, in their contract, it said that if a dog adoption didn&

Technorati

So, an alternative to Digg and del.icio.us is Technorati … I’m looking into this now, because, instead of “digging” every post, the aim here is to have people favorite your blog, it’s a one time thing, and then posts are regularly updated, so basically, you can keep track of all the posts of your favorite blogs in one place. Yes, it’s kinda like an RSS feed i guess. Then i can add a neat little widget to encourage y’all to favorite my blog… *sigh* the things i do in the name of learning…

Al Gore has found his niche
2007-10-23 12:10:14
I work in Marketing, so finding one’s niche is extremely important. And I applaud Al Gore for finding his. He found the right mix of serious and “hip” (waow, that dates me, right?) to appeal to as large an audience as possible. He mixed the in-depth understanding and reading (books, presentations…) with the entertainment aspect (concerts), and i do feel that global warming has reached an aweresness level that wasn’t there a couple years ago. Granted, this is my impression, living in North America, maybe, in Europe, things are still unchanged. And he’s been smart. I think he has good advisors. The success didn’t go to his head, he didn’t suddenly imagine that he could conquer the country and win an election. Many people encouraged him to run, especially since this seems to be a race where everyone and their dog is interested in running, no one would criticize a man with an actual cause for running. But he knews that his passion and his ni

My Birthday Post
2007-10-29 17:52:07
I just turned 33. And I just had the best birthday week i could have hoped for. See, when you’re 33, birthdays are just another day, I don’t necessarily care that i’m at work that day or that i won’t end up drunk and passed out somewhere by the end of the night. Apparently, in your 30s, you also realize that whether or not you actually get drunk is not the deciding factor on whether you had a nice evening or not. So this year, i decided to leave it to the Gods. I made no plans, had no expectations, didn’t pre-warm anyone that this day was coming up, and even had a laundry list of errands that i was perfectly willing to run on my birthday weekend. And you know what? When you have no expectations, it’s amazing, because ANYTHING that happens is a bonus. Seriously. For starters, there’s facebook (hahaha, that’s funny… it’s my birthday post and i’m commenting on how awesome a piece of technology is… *sigh* there reall

Queen Rania of Jordan: My Message of Cross-Cultural Understanding And maybe you have had an experience like that too, where something you thought was foreign and strange revealed itself to be wonderful. Weighing in on Ellen’s dog saga The non-profit agency’s case: It’s to protect the dogs. And i get it, it makes sense. This is their business, they take pride and care in placing dogs in families that they approve of, they often have rigorous interview processes (i remember adopting my cat from a humane society and remember thinking “it’s harder to get a kitten than having a baby”

Holder Restaurant Review (Montreal, Canada) Located on trendy McGill Avenue, just on the edge of Old Montreal, an area I really don’t know that well, but really want to discover, it really has the latest and hottest places to wine and dine. So Holder is trendy without over doing it. It’s a french brasserie style place, high ceilings, lots of wood, noisy, lots of activity, cute waiters... Someone please explain Twitter to me ok, so what’s the deal with Twitter? I mean, so, you set up an account, and then all you do is keep updating your status? That’s it? and then you get to post a widget (see right hand side column “what i’m doing”) that gives a live feed of what you’re doing, as long as you keep updating it.The good news is you can update by IM (not sure why...

My thoughts on one of the greatest men of this century My post is about Nelson Mandela. This man is definitely one of the great people of this century, a hero to his country, we all know how he spent 27+ years in jail for a cause he believed in, how the people of his country remembered him and continued fighting in his name, how he came out of jail and ended apartheid, became the country’s official..

How one little word can be such a problem for so many people
2007-11-20 23:06:05
Facebook… I can’t believe this is the first time i post about it, since i’ve been an active member for about 6 months now. Anyway, it seems at least 1/2 the planet knows about it, so i won’t even introduce it. But if we want to measure the importance facebook has taken in our lives, we just need to see how worked up over 160 thousand people got over one little word, the word “is” in facebook’s status updates. As Mashable explains in their news announcement, until now, if you wanted to tell your friends that you want ice-cream, when you went to type your status update, the sentence was already started for you “CosmoChick is” and you had to complete the sentence. So you had no choice but to write “CosmoChick is wanting ice-cream”… But now the “is” is coming down!! Now, you can finally be grammatically correct and say “CosmoChick wants ice-cream”!! Whoo-hoo for facebook and proper grammar! W

Welcoming hackers to the blogsphere
2007-11-27 14:39:11
I am a strong supporter of Wordpress, especially the .org one (where you install your blog onto your own website, like this one, this blog is on the www.astralmarketing.com website). There is also wordpress.com, where you have a blog hosted on wordpress’ website, so your blog address is usually http://www.YOURBLOGNAME.wordpress.com. But whichever option we choose, it seems that hackers have caught up with us, and are using 3rd party themes to insert potentially malicious code into our blogs, so used for advertising purposes, but some can be used for more harmful stuff as well. Read this post for more detailed info. If you’re gonna go through the trouble of installing your own blog on your website and changing it’s theme, chances are, you know the code pretty well to have noticed any malicious info. This is maybe less true for those who have a hosted blog. Either way, for now, the best thing to do is be viligant, and always download a 3rd party theme from it’s or

No Appealing Republican Choice So it struck me today, as I watched CNN pretty much all morning… In the Republican party, the choice is now down to McCain versus Huckabee, right? (Although some would argue, the race is pretty much already won by McCain)… But lets say, for 1 second,

Am i proud of her because she's a woman? Sure, woman are very "patriotic" that way, we stand together because many, many women in our history have fought real hard

Lost Secrets Revealed Tonight is the Lost Season 4 premiere, and so, i’ve spent some time watching recaps online (no, not spoilers, recaps)! It’s interesting what you realize when you watch a summarized version of the show. For example, on youtube, there’s an 8-minute video that summarizes Seasons 1-3, it’s awesome for someone who has actually seen the show... Quick thought… writers strike is good for politics In my job in marketing, i have to study the web traffic to our site. I’m sure at CNN they have an entire team working on analysis viewership rates… and i wonder if they’ll notice a drop in viewership today, seeing that the Lost season premiere is on. Notes on London I don’t really have much to report on London, since the few days i spent there were more about family then vacationing. A few observations though, as someone who left 7 years ago after having lived there 22 years. When i left, the labor government had just started making changes and nothing significant had yet happened. Now, 12 years into Celebrity Perfume Quick observation that made me crack up. So I’m sitting on the plane from Spain to London, and the cabin crew lady is telling us that, shortly, someone will be passing by to sell duty free items. So she wants to highlight what are some of the items available, and she says “we have a wide range of perfumes available”, and she starts Spain - travel blog - day 1 First full day in Spain. Heath Ledger Passed Away This is very sad, seeing a young life disappear before it gets a chance to fully grow. There was such promise in Heath Ledger’s career, you could tell this was an actor that would only get better as the years went by. I appreciate that he tried really hard to stay away from the typical teenage roles once he had gotten his foot in the door with US politics… like it or not, you gotta care This is really not helping the general US ego. They already think that the world revolves around them, and now, what sucks is that the world does actually revolve around the US. The way they talk about the elections (ok, granted, i’m in Canada, it’s hardly very far away) on TV, you’d think it was everyone’s elections.

Moral of the story: i need to learn to write shorter descriptions.
