Domestikgoddess - Birdhouses as Garden Art 2007-04-02 20:45:00 Featured from http://domestikgoddess.blogspot.com/Decorative birdhouses are a pretty choice when it comes to garden ornaments — and you can let your imagination run free!Painted BirdhousesCobble together a basic birdhouse shape with leftover bits of wood, if you're handy in the shop, or pick up a plain wooden birdhouse for next to nothing at the hardware store craft section.Try latex house paint for the broad strokes, with acrylic craft paints for fine details — like I used to paint my little church birdhouse — and finish it off with a coat of clear poly sealer to protect your artwork from the sun's UV rays and the rain.Stone & Mosaic BirdhousesFor a decorative birdhouse that's even more unusual, what about stonework or mosaic? It's a DIY craft project that's much easier than it might at first sound, although not as fast as painting it.Better Homes & Garden

Indonesian Arts 2007-02-11 19:51:00 The diversity evident in Indonesia's 300 plus ethnic groups is reflected in the diversity of its art forms. A Bit Theories of art 2007-02-01 11:26:00 Nowhere are we more easily confused than in defining what is truly "art." While few people quibble with the sublime beauty of the Mona Lisa, or the timeless majesty of the Parthenon, a general consensus about some works of art leads us to disturbing and difficult questions like "Who gets to say what art is?" or "What is it about this artwork that makes it beautiful?" We do know that while the artist is trying to relate directly to his or her intended audience, the process of defining and appreciating art is facilitated by the theoretician and critic, who give us insight into the work, its nature and its place in the history of culture. There are many related theories of art. Aesthetics is the philosophy of beauty; aesthetic discussions engage us in disputes about the best way to define art. One theoretical point of view, for example, is that it is a mistake even to try to define art or beauty, insofar as they have no essence, and therefore can have no definition. Another is that art is Read more:Theories

Maximus Turned to Epimas, What Does That Means? 2007-08-04 07:54:00 Recently I've finished a design for a new product of my friend's company. I did my part as a graphic designer to make the packaging for a kind of herbal medicine. It's not really a medicine I guess, it's some kind of (what term do I have to use) multivitamin to maintain and increase the men's vitality. Probably it's another kind of Viagra in herbal form. Wanna try it?At the first time we would like to use "Maximus" as the brand name. But then we cancel it because this name is just too "western", and probably wouldn't be accepted by the authority. I don't quite understand why then "Epimas" were chosen as the brand name. From that I knew was just it was chosen by business consideration. Or maybe in a purpose of being accepted by the authority. For the image we use a Roman soldier to visualize the strong man. Since my friend don't want this man exposed too vulgar, I try to retouch it and make it somehow looks more artistic by putting it on the corner. What do you think about this Read more:Means
Kabuki, a Traditional Japanese Form of Theater 2007-08-23 16:55:00 Kabuki plays are about historical events, moral conflicts in love relationships and the like. The actors use an old fashioned language which is difficult to understand even for some Japanese
people. They speak in a monotonous voice and are accompanied by traditional Japanese instruments. The kabuki stage (kabuki no butai) is a rotating stage and is further equipped with several gadgets like trapdoors through which the actors can appear and disappear. Another specialty of the kabuki stage is a footbridge (hanamichi) that leads through the audience.Kabuki is a traditional Japanese form of theater with its origins in the Edo period. Kabuki, in contrast to the older surviving Japanese art forms such as No, was the popular culture of the townspeople and not of the higher social classes. In the early years, both, men and women acted in Kabuki plays. Later during the Edo period, the Tokugawa shogunate forbade the acting to women, a restriction that survives to the present day. Several male kabu Read more:Traditional
Guerilla Girls 2007-08-22 17:29:00 An introduction to the Guerilla Girls
, an anonymous group of women who want to bring more recognition and respect to female artists The poster hung on the wall: A painting of a nude woman, reclining on a divan, a gorilla mask covering her head. The corresponding text read: "Do women have to be naked to get into the Metropolitan Museum of Art? Less than five percent of artists in the Modern Arts section are women, but 85 percent of the nudes are female. Guerilla Girls." Shocking? It's meant to be. The purpose of the Guerilla Girls is to shock you, to make you notice what they are doing. And what they want you to see, beyond the masks, is that there are great women artists whose work is routinely ignored by the art world. The Guerilla Girls are a group of anonymous women activists fighting for gender and racial equality. Their battle is fought mainly in New York City, but it has begun to spread to other artist venues across the United States. In their "real" lives, the Guerilla Girls
Tips in Photography 2007-08-25 16:23:00 Quite an old tips, but I guess it's worth to read. Everyone enjoys having photographs of family, friends, vacations, and interesting sites to capture memories and perhaps express a little creativity. Often times, a simple adjustment or two can greatly improve the shot, bringing even more pleasure to the finished photograph.Whether the photographer is using an expensive 35 MM SLR type of camera, or a simple, inexpensive 110 disposable pocket camera, attention to a few details can make all the difference in improving your pictures. The main areas where anyone can improve are content, lighting, and angle:CONTENTFlip through your favorite magazines and notice how professional photographers "frame" their subjects. Grouping a nice collection of objects or people together is one method of creating good content, and isolation of a single subject is another. Remember who is going to be looking at your pictures and what you want them to see.Taking photographs of several objects or people can ma
Make Your Own Handmade Paper Craft 2007-08-24 16:51:00 Today’s modern paper is made with the same general principals that were invented about 200 years ago. Before paper was developed, people wrote on many different surfaces including, rocks, bones, gold and other metals, clay, leather skins from animals, palm leaves, and trees. Well, at least some of the ancient people were getting close to the idea of paper when they were using the tree! The word papyrus, which means paper, is a Greek word for paper that was made from cut plant stalks laid side by side and pounded together. Though not considered true paper, it was at least thin and made from organic plant materials. The use of wood for paper making was invented around 1719 by a man named Rene` de Reamur who studied the way wasps made their nests from regurgitated wood. He thought that the thin paper like quality the wasp’s nests could be used for a writing tablet. He passed the idea on to others who then began to make a pulp from wood. The first tree pulp paper book was made in 1786. Read more:Craft
Make Your Own Play Mat for Baby 2007-08-29 07:42:00 When shopping for baby supplies, new moms usually think diapers, wipes, booties and such. But as the baby gets older, it’s no longer safe to lay him on the bed or sofa to play, lest he roll off and get hurt. All babies need a play mat - something Mom can throw down on the floor where baby can play safely yet still be comfy. Play mats are a great shower gift, too. Your own creation will be so much nicer than what you can find in the store. Most store play mats are simply that - a mat. But your creation can be a mat and so much more.Choose a soft, durable cloth for making the mat. Pink or blue for a girl or boy, or choose a neutral color like yellow. You can sew a nice, warm fleece on one side and cool cotton on the other side, to make it reversible between winter and summer. Or, just use two receiving blankets to sew together to make the mat. After cutting the material to the size of a receiving blanket, or larger if you wish, decide what you will use to stuff the mat. You can cut up a

Giotto, The Short Biography 2007-10-08 04:51:00 Giotto was known as one of the greatest painters during the period of the Italian Renaissance. Although little is known about his early life, scholars believe that he was born in the year 1266. It's possible that he could have come from a wealthy family but since his father was a farmer, they were most likely peasants who lived and worked on a nobleman's land. Scholars know that Giotto went to work as a shepherd when he was a young boy, perhaps to help out the family.According to Vasari, an historian, when Giotto would take his sheep to the pasture to graze he would often sit sketching out pictures on a flat rock with a piece of burnt wood. One day while the young artist was at work a man named Cimabue approached him and stood admiring his artwork. Cimabue asked if Giotto would like to come to Florence with him to serve as his apprentice.Cimabue was known as the finest painter in Italy and he asked Giotto's father if his son could study under him. Can you imagine how excited young G Read more:Short
