America’s Struggle Against Globalization
2007-07-07 15:11:19
There was a time in The United States where a man could support his family with a life-long career at a factory. The money from one income was enough to keep traditional families traditional, to keep one parent at home to raise children and bring about a healthy upbringing in a loving home environment, and even pay for college when the time came. Obviously, something has changed in the last 50 years. Today, families are rarely able to survive on a single income alone. Both parents must work to make ends meet, and paying for one college tuition alone is usually enough to warrant a delayed retirement for at least one parent. So why is it getting harder for America ns to make a living in today’s world? Companies are outsourcing American jobs to countries around the world who has less stringent laws to limit corporations. Moreover, the citizens of 2nd or 3rd world nations demand less wages, which results in higher profits for companies. Ultimately, this means lower prices for products in

Al Gore III: “Happy 4th, Dad. I’m in Jail!”
2007-07-04 17:19:06
Al Gore’s son got off to a great start this Independence Day. He was pulled over around 2.15AM for driving his Toyota Prius at speeds in excess of 100 mph. A speeding ticket became the least of his worries when the police searched his car on suspicion of marijuanna, finding less than an ounce of the substance, as well as Xanax, Valium, Vicodin and Adderall. Not surprisingly, Al Gore III, 24, doesn’t have any prescriptions. His bail has been set at $20,000. Nice work Alby! While the Gore’s may have very different ideas than the Bush’s about how to lead the nation, it’s nice to know neither political icons have much control over their children. I wonder how many other things the two politicians have in common? I know they both like to make money, and they’re both big fans of the system. This is just another reason why Gore can’t win a presidential election in 2008. It’s just one more thing the GOP can spin into something completely out of c

Al Gore Will Destroy America
2007-07-03 22:30:03
I’m sorry, but it’s true. Al Gore hasn’t thrown his hat into the Presidential ring as of yet, but speculations persist as to whether he is quietly executing a strategy to enter the race in the near future and receive the most possible exposure as a result. Fred Thompson has also done a good job of this, and is expected to officially declare his candidacy over the 4th of July holiday. If Gore were to win the Democratic nomination, he would lose against whichever Republican is declared the nominee. He has become something of an iconic figure to progressives due to his passion for saving the environment, and also because of his near-victory against George Bush in 2000. Unfortunately, these are the same reasons he has become a target of conservatives, one of the faces people see when they hear the dirty “liberal” word. Gore is only preaching to the left choir when he talks about saving the environment, or when he accepts an award for a documentary about his p

Ron Paul: 1; The Man: 0
2007-07-02 22:26:23
This just in: Somebody doesn’t want Ron Paul to be President in 2008. The Republican Representative from Texas was flat out not invited to participate in a presidential candidates forum on June 30 in Des Moines, Iowa, sponsored by Iowans for Tax Relief and Iowa Christian Alliance, drawing a crowd of approximately 872. Why would Iowans for Tax Relief, the largest taxpayer rights group in the nation, and the Iowa Christian Alliance consciously oppose the presence of Ron Paul? He shares many of the same core-beliefs as the two organizations who put on the presidential candidates forum, and, despite his Libertarian ideals, he does not support separation of church and state. The simplest, most logical explanation for Ron Paul’s snubbing is that it is backlash from the comments he made in a debate hosted by the South Carolina Republican Party, where he insinuated the 9/11 attacks were a result of America’s unwanted presence in the Middle East since the end of WWII. Are we really so va

McCain Candidacy on the Ropes
2007-07-02 15:29:06
McCain Fund-raising Lags, Restructures Campaign With the 2008 presidential race in full swing, John McCain is finding it harder to keep up financially. The Republican Senator from Arizona’s campaign raised $13.6 million in the first quarter of 2007, but only $11.2 million in the last three months, resulting in a fundraising fall of nearly 18%. This spells trouble for McCain, whose staff has had to eliminate jobs in an effort to save money. Some members of the staff have agreed to pay cuts in order to maintain their positions, while others have agreed to work for free until the campaign can get back up on its feet. McCain is currently visiting Iraq, but plans to focus heavily on Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina upon his return, as they are the three early voting states that can act as an early barometer for deciding the nominees of both the Democrat and Republican parties. While McCain is confident he will become the Republican nominee, the reality of the situation is that

NASA Gets More Money
2007-06-27 21:58:56
Senate Panel Boosts NASA Funding  It’s good to see an occasional ray of sunshine in the annual budget. The Senate Appropriations commerce, justice, science subcommittee recommended giving $17.45 billion to NASA in 2008. This obviously won’t fund a manned mission to Mars by 2012, but it is at least an improvement, and more than what NASA originally requested. I disagree with the way President Bush has handled many situations while in power, but at least he didn’t kill NASA. We can always take comfort in that. Share This

The Paris Hilton Paradox
2007-06-27 21:14:18
Michael Moore was originally scheduled to appear on CNN’s Larry King Live on Wednesday night. He likely would have discussed the Healthcare Issue that inspired his new film “Sicko,” which is something many American’s view as a priority in the upcoming 2008 Presidential election. Unfortunately, he got bumped. For Paris Hilton . Confused? Well, ”America’s Princess” just got out of jail for violating her probation. That’s obviously more important than Healthcare, right? This is just one example of the latest media trend that has taken a starkly scandalous turn into a world where Britney Spears’ latest umbrella attack takes precedence over truly relevant issues like Iraq & Afghanistan, Healthcare or other social issues that impact the lives of Americans every day. Who is to blame for all of this? We buy the tabloids that buy the pictures the paparazzi stalks celebrities to get. We watch the entertainment shows that get us up to dat

The Al Gore Strategy
2007-06-26 22:01:40
Gore to Attend Live Earth in New Jersey  Al Gore will appear at the Live Earth concert at Giants Stadium in New Jersey on July 7. The concert is one of eight stops on a short world-tour designed to hype the global warming crisis. Really, Al? Really? I’m beginning to wonder what Gore’s real motivations are with this whole global warming strategy. The Environment has been an issue close to Al’s heart for his entire political career, and he took his opportunity to show in on the national stage in the ‘88 Democratic primary. He lost to Dukakis, but found his identify as the “feel good” Vice-Presidential nominee that Clinton needed. America thought Al kept Bill on the straight and narrow. Maybe we were right, maybe we weren’t. Gore narrowly lost to George Bush in 2000, and mourned for his dead campaign as any red-blooded American; he grew a beard.  It wasn’t until “An Inconvenient Truth” was released and won an Academy Award

Letter To The President: Stop Torturing Prisoners!
2007-06-26 00:06:54
Scholars urge Bush to ban use of torture President ial Scholars students presented President Bush with a letter asking him to stop torturing terror suspects held by the United States. Bush hadn’t heard about the letter beforehand, and was surprised by the action. Part of the letter read: “We do not want America to represent torture. We urge you to do all in your power to stop violations of the human rights of detainees, to cease illegal renditions, and to apply the Geneva Convention to all detainees, including those designated enemy combatants.” Deputy press secretary Dana Perino said of the scene, “The president enjoyed a visit with the students, accepted the letter and upon reading it let the student know that the United States does not torture and that we value human rights.” I just can’t stand it. Bush says we don’t torture, when we have evidence and eye-witness accounts of when U.S. soldiers tortured prisoners. He also says we don’t p

Farming in the Future
2007-06-24 19:12:00
Forget climate change. By 2050, there will be 3 Billion more humans on Earth, approximately 80% of whom will make their homes in an urban setting. Cities will grow to cover vastly more area than today. Food supplies will be threatened as the demand begins to outweigh supply. The starving masses may no longer be contained to Africa by 2050. Globalisation has recently initiated a change in the way the world currently works. Your food and possessions no longer come from your own region. Infact, most of the things in your home were likely manufactured outside of the United States. The costs to ship these goods and supplies will become astronomical as fuel costs continue to rise, and Americans will be left with few options on the table. One possible solution to the food problem is by bringing the farms to the cities. Vertical Farming isn’t a new idea, but it can become an effective means of making the most out of tight quarters in the growing urban setting. The close proximity of the

Bush: “Do As We Say, Not As We Do!” I’m Getting Real Tired of This.
2007-07-11 16:24:34
Bush Orders Miers to Defy House Subpoena This is great.  George Bush has specifically directed Harriet Miers NOT to appear at the House Judiciary Committee hearing on July 12.  Last time I checked, if I don’t show up and i’ve been subpoena’d, it’s likely that there’s a warrant out for my arrest and that i’ll probably serve some kind of penalty as a result.  Why is this not the case for anyone associated with the Bush Administration? I haven’t exactly defended the administration’s right to privacy during the whole Valerie Plame thing, and throughout a number of other shady things that have gone down since Bush took office in 2000, but I think i’ve finally had enough. This is the fairness doctrine we should all really be talking about.  It’s not like Miers has been invited to a cocktail party or a picnic on the beach.  They’ve issued a subpoena.  This means she is bound by the courts (you know, the legal process she

Is Reality Really Real?
2007-07-14 01:09:43
Is all of this really real? That’s a big question to ask, and a difficult one to answer when our every tool relies on a reality that decides, in a sense, what we see, when we see it, and why.   But basically, well yeah. Sure it is. All of this really is real. But how do any of us know that what we’re seeing is really there at all? I have a pretty good feeling that what I’m seeing is there because it’s usually happening right before my eyes, or within ear-shot, or in a feeling I might get. So, my perception of an event makes it a real thing. Right? Well, the jury’s still out on that one, believe it or not.   The tools I have to live my daily life are derived from my five senses. Most of us have them all, although some senses tend to work a bit better than others, depending on who you’re talking, or yelling to.  Sight, hearing, touch, taste and smell round out the five “for-sure’s” thus far identified by scientists and pretty much everyone

Unconsciously Aware
2007-07-17 08:33:38
Every single one of us has experienced some type of paranormal phenomenon in our lives. Some of us have had dreams or sudden strong thoughts about a loved just before or after their death. Some have claimed to see ghosts, speak to the dead, or will tell your future, often for a fee. The most common paranormal activity occurs daily- we think of someone just before they call; we brake just before the car in front of us break; the strange feeling that we are being watched, even by camera, when we have no real way of knowing. Many of us rely on a sense of intuition to make daily decisions, and a vast number of us feel God’s presence in everything we do. Paranormal activity isn’t limited to watered-down fad topics like ESP, telekenisis, clairvoyance. While these all do have some level of scientific merit, the exploitation of these areas of the paranormal has lessened the entire field. Paranormal means anything that cannot be directly explained by science. The Global Consciousn

Can Ron Paul Unify the Young Vote?
2007-07-25 20:40:04
To date, no Presidential candidate has been able to mobilize young voters effectively.  Consequently, candidates whose base is predominantly young voters often find themselves falling short when it really counts. Every election season, candidates talk about the youth vote. They tell us how important it is to address the needs of our nation’s youth, the next generation. Of course, it never materlializes. Come every election, candidates are talking about the same tired issues, and young voters are back to not caring. Will it ever change? It’s possible that with the right candidate, with society standing on the precipice of big change, youth voters will not just stop at voicing their support throughout discussion forums online. Maybe this is the season where young voters actually volunteer. Internet support is great, but it doesn’t translate as well to conventional methods. If Ron Paul supporters can get up and spread the word, educate themselves on the issues we as Am

RFID: Control Through Convenience
2007-07-29 10:29:08
Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) is a technology that has been around in some fashion or another for many years. RFID tags operate at several different frequencies, each of which are optimal for certain transmissions. For example, tags that operate at 13 MHZ (HF) are better at penetrating liquids. At this frequency, the tag can be read at a distance of about 3 feet. While RFID has been in use for years throughout American tollways as well as identification and tracking of pets, it has most recently Supply Chain & Logistics. Inventory control & tracking can be a tedious and inefficient task when every product must be individually scanned into inventory. With RFID, however, entire loads simply pass near a radio antenna, which receives the encoded message from each RFID chip on the load.  Must faster. RFID technology has not yet been as successful when it comes to practical application in our daily lives. Potentially, RFID chips could be implemented in every product on the m

5,000 Years of Middle Eastern Conflict in 90 Seconds
2007-07-29 01:20:03
I’m so glad I found this site. This short presentation shows a record of hisory in the Middle East for the past 5,000 years. I was aware that the area has been marred with conflict for many years. While I realize the Middle Eastern territories have changed hands for many a conquering Empire, I guess it never occured to me exactly how consistent this power-grab was over the thousands of years. I do understand when people say the Middle East cannot be fixed. While I don’t agree with it, the presentation really shows well the degree to which the Middle East has been conquered, since the dawn of civilization. No wonder they’re not catching on too well to democracy. Old habits are hard to kick! Share This

Iowa Republican Straw Poll Results
2007-08-11 22:33:19
I was kind of excited about the Iowa Straw Poll today. I know the results aren’t usually even a very good indicator for who the party nominee will be, but it’s still another marker in the process, like the debates, that give us a chance to sort of do a little regrouping of our own to determine who we might like. The results are as follows: Mitt Romney: 4,516 Mike Huckabee: 2,587 Sam Brownback: 2,192 Tom Tancredo: 1,961 Ron Paul: 1,305 Tommy Thompson: 1,039   Overall I think think any of this is a very big surprise. John McCain, Rudi Giuliani and Fred Thompson didn’t seem to take it very seriously, which is probably why they weren’t even there. This made it pretty simple for Mitt Romney, the richest candidate in the race. He spent a lot of time in Iowa and it looks like he got what he paid for. But is that going to change the fact that no Mormon has been elected President? As Presidential as Romney may look, I just don’t think Christian America is going

Karl Rove Calls it Quits
2007-08-13 07:48:18
Karl Rove to quit at end of august While members of the Bush Administration have been jumping ship for years now, I have to say I never took Karl Rover for the cut and run type.  He says he needs to spend more time for his family. I find it curious that he has decided this so close to the end of Bush’s reign. Makes me wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that Democrats relentless pursuit of corruption is getting a bit too close for comfort for Rove. Rove declined subpoena, an order to testify earlier this month. The White House expressely forbid him not to appear, because he was an advisor to the President. It could spell trouble for the Bush Administration if they continue to go after Rove, especially since he is no longer advisor to the President. What will this mean for the Bush spin machine? Without “The Architect” around to call the shots, George Bush may find himself in plenty of more precarious situations, and without someone to clean up the mess. Par
