Public File Changes, MUCH FASTER! 2007-07-02 11:31:00 Making files public is much faster now! Last week many of you had trouble making files public or were seeing huge delays in the process, sometimes taking several hours to actually complete. We were fighting on and off all week with our queueing system, it seemed to encounter a perfect storm of issues from all directions. So what has happened?First a bit of background; from the beginning we have treated public files as separate from your "My Files" storage- the primary benefit of this is that you could make changes to, edit, rename or even delete a file from your private space without affecting your public links. The disadvantage is that we have been maintaining 2 copies of the file, and even in the best of circumstances making a file public involves waiting for the system to copy your file.On Friday we changed the way public files are tracked and stored so now we simply flag files as public rather than copying them. On the plus side since we are storing the file only once your q Read more:Public

Public File Download Changes 2007-05-21 12:42:00 Last week you may have noticed that we made some changes to the way public files are downloaded. After watching for a while to see how it has impacted both our users and the people who come to download your files we have decided to go ahead and make some permanent changes to Public
Files.BackgroundThe way our Public Files have worked in the past is what we will call Direct Linking; when a user clicks on a link the file begins to download right away in their browser. The change we are making is that many files which used to be direct linked will now point to a page on our servers. That page will initiate a download in the background, and show the user a link to manually start a download if for some reason their browser blocks the automatic one.Who is impacted by this change?First of all, Pro accounts (any account where you have paid for upgraded service) will see no changes to the way their public files work, just as before all Public links will be direct links. We are also going t Read more:Download
Back in Action! 2007-05-14 19:45:00 We are back! Again I'd like to extend an apology from our entire team to our users who couldn't access their files during our outage. We take very seriously the trust you have given us by hosting files in our system, and go to great lengths to honor that. From what Level 3 has told us this sounds like the perfect storm of network problems; but after today's extended outage we are already working on plans to make additional redundant bandwidth available in our main data center.

Network Outage... 2007-05-14 18:37:00 As you have probably noticed myDataBus is currently offline; unfortunately our main network provider is experiencing a major outage affecting our entire state caused apparently by a fiber cut. At this time we do not have a repair time from them, but we hope to be back soon. We're very sorry for the inconvenience; I'm sure that our users are as frustrated as we are at being unable to access your files! If we do have any more information this evening I will be posting here until we are back.

through the excellent Zoho Writer, we have added support for Zoho Sheet and Zoho Show today!Zoho Sheet is an online alternative to commercial desktop spreadsheet applications, with great charting features and more! Click Edit with Zoho next to any Excel (.xls) file to view and edit in Sheet, then click save to update the file in your myDataBus account.Zoho Show is a matching tool to create, edit, publish, and show presentations. Public File Limits Update 2007-03-09 16:10:00 Older users who still have increased public file bandwidth limits will be dropped to 5GB/day today. If you have signed up in the last month or so and have a 1GB/day limit (or if you don't use public files!) you can ignore this message-- for the rest of you please make a note that we will be finishing the transition next weekend, the rest of the way down to 1GB.If you have been using the extra bandwidth you may start to receive emails from our system warning you that you are about to exceed your limit; or you can check your current usage by clicking on the "Settings" tab. Need more? Upgrade! We have made it easy to design your own service plan at myDataBus.com; log into your account and click the upgrade link to find out just how inexpensive it can be to add storage or transfer to meet your needs. For more information about limits and why they are being reduced see the blog entry announcing the change:http://mydatabus.blogspot.com/2007/02/new-limits-on-public-files.htmlOnce again we t Read more:Limits

Increased file size for uploads on paid accounts! 2007-03-02 09:21:00 One request we hear a lot from users is for the ability to upload files larger than 500MB. We worked hard on the business model for file size and came up with what we think is a good approach to meet your needs: as of today all paid users have the ability to upload files up to 1.5GB in size. This includes any paid account; whether you have the $9.95/year plan (a GREAT deal-- bump up to 10GB of storage, NO ADS, and twice the storage for less than $1/month!) or any of our a-la-carte bandwidth and storage upgrades. The other half of this announcement is that we will be lowering the limit for free users to 250MB per file beginning next week.We also wanted to let you know that for those users who have been enjoying the old 20GB/day public file limit we have started lowering your numbers as promised. We wanted to do this gradually to help ease the transition, so this weekend you will drop to 10GB/day; and you can expect to be down to 1GB sometime in the next couple of weeks. If you start ru

Making little things count! 2007-02-22 15:25:00 With much of the heavy lifting of our Amazon S3 transition behind us we've been able to spend some time making the site more fun to use. Today we released a great package of 'little
' enhancements that we hope will make myDataBus much more fun to use! Improved access to features from the My Files and Group Files pages- click the new "options" button on the right side to work with your files. Better visibility for your file information- hold your mouse over a filename on the My Files or Group Files pages, additional file information will pop up. Try it with an image! Vastly improved album creation! We are painfully aware that our album implementation left a lot to be desired... and frankly it's still not where we want it to be, but today we've fixed 2 of the most annoying parts-- creatin Read more:count

New limits on Public Files 2007-02-05 17:22:00 As part of the changes we have introduced this week we are announcing that free accounts at myDataBus.com will now be limited to 1GB of transfer per day for Public
Files. As always there are no limits or quotas affecting transfer of your own files, or files from groups you belong to.Those of you who have been around for a while know that we introduced public files with a very high limit so that we could evaluate how the public files would be used by our customers (20GB). We hear the groans out there from a few of our power-users, but reasonable limits are of course necessary for the long-term success of our site. We do want to thank you all and soften the blow for those that will be impacted by the new limits-- all of our existing customers will continue to enjoy a limit of 20GB per day for a limited time. The sliver lining in these changes (you will hear much more about this later!) is that we are nearly finished converting our users to Amazon.com's S3 storage service. This mean

If our site is slow for you today... 2007-01-24 13:01:00 We have been having issues with our bandwidth since last evening, causing some users to see much slower than normal downloads, and others to see their uploads time out. Please bear with us, we hope to have the issue resolved by the end of the day!
Building for Scale 2006-11-14 12:15:00 myDataBus has been growing like crazy lately, thank you to all of you!! We are excited about continuing to expand our service and have a long list of features in store for you, but right now we are concentrating on improving the stability and scalability of our service as it grows.Recent improvements include: * Huge increase in bandwidth: The site was starting to really slow down during peak times, but in the last week you should have noticed a vast improvement in upload and download speeds. We are positioned now with plenty of room for growth and a quick upgrade route for adding more as we need it. * Fixes for lost session problems: Some of our users have been having trouble logging into or staying logged into myDataBus.com; we have made some changes that have eliminated almost all of those cases, the only known outstanding issue is with Proxy servers at certain ISPs. We are working on several potential fixes, let us know if you are still seeing the 'logout problem!' * Aliases fo Read more:Building

Growing up 2006-10-04 20:07:00 It seems there comes a time in the life of every growing internet company where this post is made. A rite of passage of sorts...So yesterday we completed a round of updates and fixes that we have been working on over the last week to address issues with stability and compatibility that we think will make your user experience a LOT better on all platforms. Some of the major known issues that have been resolved over the last 2 weeks include: * Problems with Internet Explorer logging users out after any 8 clicks on the site. * Problems with uploads not completing, or telling the user that a session has expired at the end of an upload. (And the related problem that a number of users have had uploading files > 250MB) * Files uploaded by Internet Explorer users sometimes only displaying in tree view, but not being downloadable. * New signup and change password emails being filtered as spam by many ISPs. * Form elements from other pages showing up on the 'New Folder' and 'Web Load' for Read more:Growing

So who really gets the job done? 2006-09-17 13:02:00 Phil Yanov, self-described "Author, Speaker, Technologist, Raconteur" writes about us in a blog entry about recording podcasts:"One of the segments was about online storage and backup services. We talked about Box.net, X-Drive, and Servosity. Eric and I actually use mydatabus to transfer the big audio files that eventually become my podcasts."While we would love to have been part of the show, it is nice to demonstrate that myDataBus.com has the features and the flexibility to get things done in the real world!Behind the radio...
The case of the missing public files- Solved! 2006-09-12 09:27:00 Over the past few weeks we have had scattered reports from some users about public files
'disappearing' from myDataBus accounts. We were finally able to isolate, reproduce and fix the problem yesterday. If you are one of the users that has 'lost' public files thanks for your patience, and share away!
Out with the old . . . 2007-07-11 15:16:00 OK folks, we're all friends here. Let's be perfectly honest with each other. The ol' myDataBus file uploader wasn't exactly the greatest uploader ever. But times have changed. The guys here at myDataBus have been hard at work on a brand-spanking-new uploader . . . go ahead, click the Upload Files button. What you have before you in all its glory is not only a faster, more reliable uploader, but an uploader that lets you SELECT MULTIPLE FILES AT ONCE. That's right, click Browse and try it out for yourself. You can select an entire folder's worth of files for upload in a matter of seconds. Not only that, but now there are two nifty little download progress bars—the top one is for individual file download progress, and the bottom one is for the overall download progress. You can also choose to make your files public—or overwrite files with the same name—directly from the uploader! And as before, you have the option of performing a web upload by clicking the Webload button at the
No More Public Image Watermark! 2007-07-17 14:27:00 As many of you know, a watermark—"hosted by myDataBus.com"—has always appeared on public images, well, hosted by myDataBus.com. That is, until now. Public
images no longer have any watermark at all— they appear exactly as you uploaded them (only re-sized . . . if you use one of the automatic re-sizing options!)."But wait!" you cry. "My existing public photos still have the watermark!" 'Tis true: all newly-shared pictures will be watermark-free, but existing public photos will still display the watermark. But that's easy to fix. Simply remove the watermarked pictures from your Public Files, then re-add them. Voilà! No more watermark. And as long as you haven't changed the filenames, all your old image links will still work too.Just another great update from the hard-working folks here at myDataBus.com . . .
