Zombie Survival Guide
2007-07-05 12:45:20
No home should be without the Zombie Survival Guide .  I am not a fear monger but it is only a matter of time before the dead rise from their graves with an appetite for brains.  This book will teach you everything you need to know to survive the zombie threat.

Pownce
2007-07-05 08:12:43
I just received an invitation to join Pownce.com. I read about it over on Kevin Rose’s site. It is a new social networking site that allows you to send messages, files, links, and events to your contacts. Sort of like Myspace for sharing files and messages.  They are limiting the users right now and you have to be invited to join, kind of like g-mail in its early days. I just received my invitation and it comes with six invitations for me to send out to friends. I haven’t had a chance to play around with it and no one is in my network yet. I will post more information when I get some friends to join. If you want an invitation send me an e-mail or leave a comment with your e-mail address. If I have any left I will throw one your way.

Who Wants to be a Superhero 2
2007-07-04 17:24:18
The SciFi network and Stan Lee have partnered again to bring us another season of Who Wants to be a Super Hero? I was excited about the show last year and I was not disappointed. Last season brought us great characters like Fat Momma, Feedback and Major Victory. I hope this season has some stand out characters.  Excelsior!

Fort Wilderness Lawnmower Tree
2007-07-03 18:27:03
If you are ever visiting Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort you should look for the Lawnmower Tree.  I don’t know how it happened but a pine tree has grown over an old lawnmower.  I have been to Fort Wilderness countless times and I just noticed it a few years ago.  This probably appeals to the same people that look for hidden Mickey’s.  You can visit Walt Disney World again and again and see something new each time.  can

Dracula’s Castle for Sale
2007-07-03 12:56:53
Dracula’s Castle is for sale. The guy in Romania who owns it has put it on the market. I would totally buy this if I had the money.  I haven’t called my real estate agent about it but I am pretty sure it is out of my price range.

Chumby
2007-07-02 12:10:26
I saw this Chumby thing while I was browsing the web.  It is supposed to be released this summer.  It connects to your wi-fi network and will run widgets that you can install. It looks kind of interesting. Their website says it will be under $200.  Depending on the final price it might be a neat thing to have.

Explosive Device at Downtown Disney
2007-07-02 09:31:52
Just read this in the news.  A possible explosive device is being investigated in a dumpster or large trash bin.  That might explain all of the helicopters flying around Downtown Disney this morning.  Here is the full article. Update:  It is no longer a possible explosive device it was a pipe bomb that someone threw in a dumpster.  Here is the updated article.

7-11 and The Simpsons Movie
2007-07-01 15:59:10
It was a typical hot Florida summer day and I decided a Slurpee was in order to cool me down so I stopped in the local 7-11. They are promoting the upcoming The Simpsons Movie and they are selling Buzz Cola and Krusty-O’s Cereal. I went to the Slurpee machine and it has been rebranded and is now a Squishee machine. As far as movie tie-ins go I thought it was pretty clever.

Unprovoked Shark Attack’s in Florida
2007-06-30 13:57:36
Discovery Channel is advertising that shark week is coming up so I thought this was timely. I live in Florida which is quite possibly one of the most dangerous states to call home. You have hurricanes, tornadoes, alligators, venomous snakes and of course sharks. Thousands of people visit Florida every year and what vacation would be complete without a trip to the beach?  According to the International Shark Attack File there were 520 unprovoked shark attacks between 1882-2005 with 13 of those being fatal. Unprovoked is the key word here. You are swimming minding your own business when all of a sudden a huge fish with teeth tears into your calf and you are now an appetizer. Have fun at the beach.

Mai Tai Recipe
2007-06-29 16:00:13
Here is my first post and what better first post than a recipe for a delicious tropical drink. 1 oz. Dark Rum 1 oz Light Rum 1 oz Orange Curacao 2 oz Orange Juice 1/2 oz Lime Juice Dash Orgeat (almond syrup) Dash Simple syrup (bar syrup) The orange juice and lime juice should be freshly squeezed. Now that you have the ingredients get yourself a glass. Put some ice in that glass. Crsuhed or shaved work best. Combine the ingredients in the order listed. If you have it- garnish with a pineapple and cherry flag.

PS3 Price Cut
2007-07-09 07:50:46
Sony just lowered the price of its 60 GB PS3 by $100 making it $499.  However, in August they are going to release an 80GB PS3 which will retail for $599.  So do you spend the $499 or wait until August and get the new model with the increased disk space?  Speaking for myself I am not going to be spending $499 or $599 on a PS3 any time soon.  Eventually they will reduce the price even more and I can wait it out.  There aren’t any must have games for the console.  Blue Ray might be nice to have but I don’t feel like replacing my DVD collection with Blue Ray discs.  In order for Sony to sell more of these they need to make some great games (for me that would be a Star Wars game)and lower the price of the console.  Otherwise the Wii is going to continue to outsell them.  I don’t have a Wii either but if I had the money to spend on a game console that is what I would buy.

Seven New Wonders of the World
2007-07-08 10:23:36
They just announced the list of the Seven New Wonders of the World . You could vote for these through the internet or phone. Here they are and my thoughts: The Great Wall of China- If you can see a wall from space you deserve to be on the list The Incan ruins of Machu Picchu- I have seen these on tv and it looked impressive. Not as impressive as a fully operational Death Star but I agree it should be on the list The statue of Christ the Redeemer in Rio de Janeiro- I don’t know about this one. Again I have only seen this one on tv. Most recently in CSI: Miami (nothing like watching Horatio dish out some good old American vigilante justice in South America) but it is only a statue. If you are going to have a statue on the list I suggest the Moai’s from Easter Island. They have been around for hundreds of years. It is not even that old. The statue of Christ opened in 1931. If that statue is still there in a few hundred years we should revisit these comments. The ancient Mayan city of

Lake Buena Vista Kwik-E-Mart
2007-07-08 06:15:33
The 7-11 in Lake Buena Vista , FL has been completely changed over to a Kwik-E-Mart. I had taken pictures of the Squishee machine at the local 7-11. I read that they had changed over this one and I was in the area so I thought I would stop by and check it out. There were more people there taking pictures than anything else. I joined them and snapped a few pictures too.

Thunderbird
2007-07-07 08:17:16
Florida has its skunk ape (which I am still trying to track down) and Peoria-Pekin, Illinois has its Thunderbird . The Thunderbird is a huge ass bird with a reported wingspan reaching 20 or so feet. My wife is from Pekin and I asked her about the Thunderbird which supposedly last made an appearance back in the 70’s. As the story goes a thunderbird came out of the sky and picked up some unlucky kid. The bird eventually dropped the kid and flew off. I asked my wife about this and she said that as a child she remembered seeing the shadow of a giant bird fly by her. I am going to need to go to Pekin to research this one further.

Florida Skunk Ape
2007-07-06 13:50:32
I found this interesting article about the Florida Skunk Ape which is Florida’s version of Bigfoot. In response to thousands of sightings, the State Legislature in April 1977, introduced a bill (H.B.1664) to protect the elusive man-ape which in part, stated, “Any person taking, possessing, harming or molesting any anthropoid or humanoid animal which is native to Florida, popularly known as the Skunk Ape, or doing any act reasonably capable of harming or molesting such animals…” State Representative Paul Nuckolls wanted to make it a misdemeanor to capture or harass a skunk ape. “I’d hate to see someone catch one and put it in a circus or in a zoo,” remarked Representative Nuckolls. The bill never passed into law but that hasn’t stopped discussions about trying it again. The other night I heard some animal howling. It was coming from a grove of trees behind my house. I have heard it many times before and I have usually shrugged it off saying it was wild dogs or a

Apple iPhone Cracked
2007-07-06 07:42:41
The iPhone has been out for a week now and it has been cracked already. You won’t be able to make calls from it but you can access its other features. You knew this was going to happen eventually but it happened faster than I thought. Everytime some new technology comes out there is a group ready to tear it apart to start looking for ways to crack it. http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=7942

R2-D2 Remote Control Action Figure
2007-07-13 07:15:56
Think Geek has these R2-D2 remote control action figures available for sale. They are controlled by a lightsaber remote. They look to be the size of a standard R2 action figure. If they can fit all of that electronics into something so small they should be able to make a full size version pretty soon. Everyone could use an Astromech Droid. I want to be able to drop it in through the top of my car X-wing Fighter style. The only thing that would make this toy better is if it could project a holographic Princess Leia.

Modern Day Pirates
2007-07-11 07:14:36
When I think about pirates the names Blackbeard, Calico Jack Rackham, Henry Morgan, Jack Sparrow all come to mind. Famous pirates from long ago or recent creations that can be seen at the movies. Who knew that piracy was just as prevalent today as it was back then? The International Chamber of Commerce puts out a weekly piracy report. The reports are interesting reports of ships getting boarded by thugs with machete’s and small arms. Most of the incidents are taking place in South America, Africa and Asia. Last week there were three reported incidents and one case of a suspicious craft. It makes you wonder how many more occur that are not reported. The ICC also puts together maps marking off where the incidents take place. If you are planning on sailing or taking a cruise in Africa, Asia or South America I would take a look.

Guitar Hero III Guitars
2007-07-10 06:40:08
IGN.com just did an article about Guitar Hero III. I am very excited about Guitar Hero III. I have both Guitar Hero and Guitar Hero II. They are two of my favorite games. What other game lets me rock out playing Freebird with my friends. Activision has partnered with Gibson Guitars for Guitar Hero III. There will be new in game guitars as well as new guitar controllers. I have been thinking of getting a new guitar. I will wait until these are released.

Ipod with Iphone Features
2007-07-10 06:28:34
Speculation is going on that Apple will begin to make Ipods with the touch screen features of the Iphone. I am not interested in the Iphone but I think that the touch screen is cool. I think it would be a good new feature for the next generation of Ipods. I don’t need a new Ipod right now but if I do need another one I want it to have a touch screen.

14 Foot Python Found in Florida Man’s Backyard
2007-07-16 12:43:56
I have no problems if you want to own an exotic pet.  I have a big problem with people releasing them once the snake outgrows the owners ability or desire to take care of it.  If you buy a python or boa constrictor you know you are buying a snake that is going to grow.  A 14 foot snake that is released has to eat something.  That something in all liklihood will be neighborhood dogs, cats and whetever else it can get it coils around.  The Everglades is having problems with pythons reproducing in the swamp and competing with indigenous species and there is not a whole lot out there that is going to prey on a giant snake.  Today in Central Florida they found a 14 foot python in someones back yard.   While I loved watching Mitch unleash the fury on Tom Green in Road Trip it is my opinion that no one needs a python or a boa constrictor as a pet. If people want to see them they can go to zoos and animal exhibits.  The only good news from this is that there is some great footage

Dukes of Hazzard General Lee
2007-07-16 08:07:05
I was driving over to my friends house and saw the General Lee drive by.  I have seen it a few times before.  Someone went through a lot of time and presumably money to recreate this car.  Whoever you are, well done.

NASA Spells Space Shuttle Name Wrong
2007-07-15 07:39:38
Some genius at NASA created a banner and spelled the orbiters name wrong. Instead of spelling it Endeavour they spelled it Endeavor. You would think that if anyone could spell the name right it would be the ones that operate the shuttle. Nice going. Here is the full article.

Xbox 360 Scratch Game Discs
2007-07-14 09:48:23
A group of consumers has just filed a class action law suit against Microsoft saying the XBox 360 scratches game discs and makes them unusable. I don’t have an Xbox 360 but I do have other game consoles. When games cost $50-$60 I go through a lot of effort to make sure I don’t scratch my discs. The console better take just as good care as of the discs. That is a great racket thy have. Built in way to make your discs unusable and you have to go out and buy another.

Spook Hill, Lake Wales, Florida
2007-07-14 09:41:04
If you ever are in Central Florida and want to see one of the local attractions you need to see Spook Hill. Spook Hill is located in Lake Wales , Florida and is just a short drive from the Disney area. There is even a story that explains the mysterious phenomena. This is the story posted on the sign right next to the hill. “Many years ago an Indian village on Lake Wales was plagued by raids of a huge gator. The Chief, a great warrior, killed the gator in a battle that created a small lake. The chief was buried on the north side. Pioneer mail riders first discovered their horses laboring down hill, thus naming it “Spook Hill.” When the road was paved, cars coasted up hill. Is this the gator seeking revenge, or the chief still trying to protect his land?” I have traveled quite a bit and I have seen quite a few versions of Spook Hill. There is the Magic Hill, Booger Hill, Acid Hill and countless others. They are all gravity hills and I think many have a superna

Guy Arrested for Sticking Girls with Pins
2007-07-13 20:10:41
This is just a weird story. Some guy in NY was arrested when he tried to pay some girls to allow them to stick pins in their ass. As if that isn’t bad enough the girls were all minors. I guess it takes all kinds but I can’t imagine getting your jollies by sticking people with pins. Check out the full story here.

This is a great spoof of Welcome Back Kotter using a grown up Harry Potter in the place of Mr. Kotter.  The Sweat Hogs are all reject magic students.  Ahmed Best probably best known for playing Jar Jar Binks plays Washington.

Orgeat Syrup
2007-07-17 16:10:02
Orgeat Syrup (pronounced ohr-zat) is a key ingredient in a number of tropical drinks.   So what is Orgeat Syrup you ask?  It is mostly almonds and sugar in a delicious syrupy form.  The Mai Tai is not a Mai Tai without orgeat syrup.  The problem is where do you buy the stuff?  I found it once at a local liquor shop.  I bought their entire stock of two bottles and they no longer carry it.  Fortunately, there is the internet. Trader Vic’s carries their own brand of orgeat syrup and it is priced at a reasonable $5.00. If you are planning on making a Mai Tai you should pick up a bottle.

Tiki Oasis 7
2007-07-17 06:58:37
Tiki Oasis 7 is taking place 8/17-8/19 in San Diego.  Mr. Mai Tai and thetikioasis.com are in no way affiliated with Tiki Oasis 7 but it looks like a blast.  I would love to go to this but I am on the wrong coast. Beachbum Berry, Sven Kirsten and Bosko are all on the schedule of afternoon symposiums. If you are going to attend a tiki event there are two that immediately come to mind. Tiki Oasis and Hukilau. The Hukilau was earlier this year but there is still time to make it to Tiki Oasis 7.  If you are in the area and don’t have anything to do I highly suggest putting on your best aloha shirt, dust off the old fez and head to Tiki Oasis 7 and have a Mai Tai for me.

Jedi Training Academy
2007-07-16 16:01:51
It has been announced that the Jedi Training Academy that they roll out during Star Wars weekends at the Disney-MGM Studios is going to be a permanent addition to the park.  Now kids will get to test their skill with a lightsaber against Darth Vader everyday.  I am all for more Star Wars at the parks.  They put up a temporary stage for the event.  I am wondering if they are going to use the same area for the permanent stage or if they are going to change the exterior like when they turned Endor Vendors into Tatooine Traders.
