The Sweet Sorrows of Misha 2007-06-30 20:15:00 There's something about electro-pop that goes great with summer, and pretty much all the other seasons. Whether you're just chill-beachin' some lazy days or busy at work, we found something everyone can enjoy! Misha
is the NYC indietronic efforts of Ashley Yao & John Chao, with their friends Nunu and Andrew. I find that a lot of experimental bands don't always cut it with the lyrics, but this pop duo's songs are filled with pain & sorrow and happiness. The new Album "Teardrop Sweet
heart," which dropped last week on Tomlab, is an awesome combination of songwriting and a wide array of sounds from song to song. It's fresh electric from the first track to the next. Put'em in your summer mixes now! SummersendDelovedlyCrystal In LoveBuy Teardrop Sweetheart here.
Elephant Parade and their Bedroom Recordings! 2007-06-28 14:19:00 Don't they look peaceful lying there in the grass? I think I need to do some of that too. Elephant Parade
is Estelle and Ido. This dreamy pop duo combines super laid back whisp-ish vocals with acoustic guitar and fun catchy Casio/piano melodies. You can definitely listen to this music while laying down in your favorite park, I promise it'll be worth it. Based on some of their show pictures, they sit right next to eachother playing on the same keyboard, which is totally rad. They toured briefly so we probably won't get a chance to see them live...sucks. EP released an LP "BedroomRecordings
" last year and got great feedback. We have 3 songs for you to check out!GoodbyeThirteen ThingsBoat SongBuy "Bedroom Recordings" here & Watch the Goodbye video!Estelle also is/was part of these other bands, worthy of a listen:Brittle Stars - So unfairHuman Television - I Laughed
DJ Shadow & Cut Chemist's 7" Fury @Hollywood Bowl 2007-06-25 13:47:00 Without a doubt, It was one of the best shows I've ever been to at a venue I've never been to. Last night was "high" energy with the Sierra Leone's Refugee All-Stars recreating a vibrant West African percussionist dance party. The stagecraft and colors coordinating with the light panels and instruments were brilliant. They use a musical message to spread love and peace as they have experienced the exact opposite from their own native homes in Sierra Leone. Read their amazing story here. After they finished their set, they bowed out and just the way they all lined up and went to their knees was very humbling, it really felt like they were living in appreciation of their lives. Everyone there was having a great time. The Brain Placement. The stage revolved to reveal an 8-turntable set-up which made me think of a futuristic hiphop deathstar control room. The set started with a tutorial audio/visual about Vinyl, 45's, the history, and turntable kickback. It was genius; my appreciation Read more:Shadow

New Mum! Go Go Smear My Poison Ivy... 2007-06-22 19:10:00 The names of the Múm albums were always so interesting. Either they are obvious and I just don't get it right away, or they are in fact in need of explanation. "Go Go Smear My Poison
Ivy, Let your Crooked Hands be Holy" drops September 25th from FatCat. Unfortunately Kristín Valtýsdóttir isn't with the band anymore, but she is however still making music! This new track has more pop but still has that Múm feel. We really like the vocals on this one and look forward to the album release! It is REALLY feelin' like Summer now! 2007-06-17 12:34:00 Oh the weather is nice and hot now. Chillin' at the beach yesterday was very nice. I had some Egyptian food yesterday at a friend's Grad party. His family was there and it was the most Egyptians I've seen outside of Discovery Channel's special on Cairo! We are working on a summer music podcast, or just mix. We've been listenin' to a lot of instrumentals and gettin' back to electronic. Whether you're in summer school, full timin', vacay, or straight bummin' it, here's a really good mix of hiphop, instrumentals, downbeat, bossa, indietronic, and acoustic. Last night she was Live at the El Ray Theater bustin' some remixes and recent albums. She's one of the top Bossa Nova artists and needless to say is runs in the family. MICE PARADE @ the Echo & Quick 6 Mix! 2007-06-08 13:46:00 Last Night's show was supposed to start at 8:30 @ the Echo. But the case wasn't the time nor venue. Due to serious technical/crapped systems & stuff not working, the show moved downstairs to Echoplex, begun around 10:30! The Echoplex is such a sweet venue and you can tell by the seating, larger stage, & the clean bathrooms! (unheard of). Here are some pic of the show.Kira Kira, Caroline, and Tom Brosseau opened with shorter sets w/ regards to time but Tom really rocked. Kira Kira played (played with) a lot of...things. Sounds like Mum + Sigur Ros. Mice Parade is an anagram of Adam Pierce, the band's lead. The set included the usual ensemble; Doug Scharin of HiM, vibraphonist Dylan Cristy of Dylan Group (who last night was also lead clapper), Caroline "filling" Kristín's vocals (who did her a short 4-5 song set as an opener), & I especially took note of Dan Lippel's awesome strumming. Adam also doubled & bounced with Doug on a 2nd drum kit for "Nights Wave" if I remember Read more:Quick

Midweek Music Mix! Food for your Ears! 2007-04-24 17:42:00 I'm really liking the new Blonde Redhead album "23" which has a great consistent sound with their other stuff. They are actually playing tomorrow at the Glass House and I am guessing the tickets are long gone. They will also be performing at Coachella with a gazillion awesome bands! I will do a short Coachella entry next week for some of my favorite bands playing. Something totally strange: The hits on my site go up around 75-120 hits on average a day. Who the crap is looking at this site? If you are reading this, hit me up with a comment. I'm curious. Alright here is some new music and some old favorites for the early midweek mix!Blonde Redhead - 23Mice Parade has come out with a self-titled new 7th album on FatCatRecs. For me it is highly anticipated. Beautiful new instrumentals with Kristen Anna Vattysdottir on the mics (and other interesting instruments). With Peirce's lead, Kristen's voice becomes less creepish and more essential to the sound. When it's there, it's there. M Read more:Midweek

Then She said "COVER ME BROTHER!" 2007-04-16 15:33:00 When I was in high school, I loved covers, specially Punk covers. Everyone makes posts about covers and rightfully so, they are awesome. This week I asked bunches of people to tell me what their favorite cover songs are. I got a lot of interesting feedback. Now just because it is a cover doesn't mean it is great, infact lots of covers suck! Hopefully you won't hear those here. I know there are lots of awesome ones and I'm sure you are gunna email me asking me why I didn't include this song and that band, lo siento seriousness. But hopefully you can extend your musical ear love for a new one! (Note: covers are generally a song sung by another person who didn't originally write/sing/released it, otherwise it's more than likely a remix)This first one was suggested my Surrah. It's a old punk cover. I've had this song since I was a sophomore in high school.Somewhere Over the Rainbow Build Me Up ButtercupEver since we heard Ms. Emma cover this song, couldn't get it out of our heads
It's All About the Music 2007-04-15 11:57:00 Howdy!BBQCHICKENROBOT.com is dedicated to music cause we love music! There are a couple reasons why the BBQ exists. For starters we kind of got tired of writing about ourselves, our lives, our circumstances. As interested as friends are and want to be, we'd rather them ask us about life face to face. I think the digital life has really made us become less personable and indirect. An individual's Passions are perfect cause nobody can take it from them. Not Just Music
.Okay in the past 4 or 5 years I have realized that there are so many talented people out there. In Arts, Film, Craft, Music, technology, and basically anything. And with so many talented people, I don't always believe a fluke of discovery should be the determiner of who gets heard. You can relate; countless times have I seen an acoustic act at a random coffee house that I completely loved. Or perhaps you have a friend whose paintings are amazing, and yet they won't get the recognition. What's the point here? Well we do
Maia's "Though, I'm Just Me!" & Mid-Week Mix! 2007-04-11 16:28:00 Finally! Razzia Records has released Maia's new full length CD! "Though, I'm just Me" released earlier this month with 11 awesome tracks, some re-mixed from older versions. Emi Meyer, Nike+, and Weekend Rotation! 2007-03-30 11:44:00 Last Wednesday we saw singer/ songwriter Emi Meyer
perform at the Montmarte Lounge in Hollywood. I have never been before and for a club it was huge with tons of swankin' expensive modern furniture, lighting and 3 bars! The show was a multiple act with art show, but I think the event didn't match the venue. Emi has a 4 song Ep trio style with drums, bass and a 'live at the Hotel Cafe' CD with 14 solo tracks. Emi recently won 1st place in the Seattle-Kobe Jazz Vocalist competition and will be performing in a special concert in Kobe, Japan! In the News: Some goods and some Bads 2007-02-26 02:26:00 Mia and Greg Looking around. How creepy and cool is that? I think I could watch this all day. It reall pumps me up" or something like that, and they purposely make him look like a big jock idiot. Why would anyone want to identify with him? Who watches that and sees themself? well perhaps many people I have ran into but the commercial sucks, and so does Fall Out Boy. James Cameron has made a documentry "Lost Tomb of Jesus" in which he tells some crazy story about how Jesus was buried and not resurrected, then he goes onto reveal that possibly Jesus and Mary had a child named Judah. I always thought James Cameron Sucked. But alas, whether he really believes all that or not isn't relevant. 2nd Annual Talent 1 Media Film Fest in Little Tokyo 2007-07-13 16:23:00 Talent1Media is the non-profit (503)c organization behind the 2nd Annual

We invited several organizations including ICare Community, World Vision, Oasis USA, LA Loves, LA Unity Coalition with it's members and JustOne. They were all a great resource for attendees to get involved in practical ways here in the U.S. and over seas. With over 600 in attendance, 9 Films, Free Appetizers & Refreshments, neat Lights (one of them splashing our logo on the theatre), 15 volunteers, our friend DJ Seanzerelli (spinnin' bossa to hiphop) and some well committed individuals, the festival was a success! Case Of The Mondays with The One AM Radio! 2007-07-16 16:09:00 I am really diggin' Hrishikesh Hirway's mixture of ambient, electronic, folky postrock. It doesn't hurt either that his voice overlaying all that creates a subtle compliment to an acoustic piece. The One Am Radio
is the solo project however on the road, Hirway is accompanied by a changing line-up. With their 3rd album out, Hirway's project is just getting better and better. "I'm crawling through landmines/I know 'cause I planted them" 2007-07-24 00:35:00 When I first heard "Paris is Burning" I instantly took note of the fluctuations of the song and Annie Clark's vocals right on point. Her new album, "Marry Me" dropped at your music store earlier this month. If you haven't already picked it up, do so now! It's a little soul, rock and indietronic mished in with clapping, tambourines, trumpets, choirs etc. St. Vincent, is just one of the products of her incredible talent. Her multi-instrumentalist skillz stretch into acts such as The Polyphonic Spree (scroll down) and Sufjan Steven's travelling band to name a couple. Earlier this year she toured with Jollie Holland (serious blues). I can't believe she is only 23!! She's one of those people that make you wonder what you've been doing your whole life. sadness =) Check out these tracks! Now. Now.
