Happy Friday! We've Got Hands Full Of Ink!
2007-12-06 17:03:00
I've had this album sittin', but finally got around to it, glad I did. Belgians Ben and Chris are the acoustic folk act The Tellers. Okay they aren't completely acoustic but they got that sound going. This is some great indie pop full of pianos, harmonicas and tambourines! The Tellers have released their debut full length album, Hands Full Of Ink, off of 62tv Records. 16 tracks of sing-a-long goodness. These youths have only been around for a few short years but their underdog story has helped them land tons of great shows and more to come. You can agree there are some great Bob Dylan-esque story telling roadtrip songs. Check out these tracks then go pick up their album.Memory HugoPrince Charly More on their myspace. An International, Yet Cozy Feel
2007-12-05 10:00:00
Something about autumn fading and winter slipping slowly into our atmosphere makes one feel somewhat needy of something cozy, warm, and maybe just a tad different. Personally, I've lately been wallowing in the beautiful sounds of the recently released Beirut album, The Flying Club Cup as well as the Elephant Gun EP.I've also been rather enjoying the out-of-OC feel of one of the influences to this new release, Jacques Brel's Quand On N'a Que L'Amour, originally released in 1957. Enjoy this little taste of art mimicking art, as well as something different and out of your day-to-day environs.Forks and Knives (La Fete) (Beirut)La Bourree du Celibataire (Jacques Brel)Le Moribonde (Beirut cover of a Jacques Brel song)

Dan In Real Life Soundtrack Sweeps My Tummy Into Waves Of Warm Fuzziness
2007-12-04 00:21:00
If you are a sucker, like me, for romantic comedies, you're bound to be a sucker (in a good way) for the soundtrack to Peter Hedges' Dan In Real Life . Starring some well-known faces such as Steve Carell (The Office, Evan Almighty, 40 Year Old Virgin), Dane Cook (yes, yes, we know his crazy comedic ass) and gorgeous French beauty, Juliette Binoche (Chocolat). The array of feelings this sountrack evokes ranges from "cozy by the fireplace" to melancholy to "driving with the windows down" feel to "love sucks" to "aww, adorable!" and I can even see some males agreeing to that one, so don't brush that off so quickly. The sountrack is mainly comprised of Norwegian Sondre Lerche's songs, he is also joined by Regina Spektor and The Faces Down Quartet on a couple of the tracks, The movie is slowly scooting out of the major movie theatres so hurry and catch this hilarious, quite realistically sentimental and at times cutely idealistic little film.To Be Surprised-Sondre LercheHell No-Sondre Le

Food, Food, and Food, Oh My! or What to Eat in NYC: Four Easy Picks
2007-11-06 01:33:00
New York City is notorious for many things: fashion, culture, and especially, food. After a week spent in a lavish affair of steak, french cuisine, korean fried chicken, and yet, another delicious burger, I decided to put together a little guide, or present, if you will, for anyone making an impromptu visit to the city, without any clue of what or where to eat. After many visits, including one wretched time where all we ate was diner food (oh naivete), I realized such a guide would have come in handy. I therefore, present to you a handpicked selection of delicious eats and treats for a cold wintry week, or any week for that mattter, in a place where there are almost too many food options, NYC.1. Best Korean Fried Chicken: Bon Chon Chicken. The non-descript second story restaurant boasts some of the city's finest korean fried chicken, part of the recent craze talked about in Time Out New York's issue of Best Cheap Eats. Though the name would make you think of a KFC type of joint, the

This San Diego crew's got special arrangements by Canada's David Campbell, Beck's daddy, who's done stuff with everyone on planet earth (including you!?). Their catchy piano melodies, charged up move-out-of-my-way attitude, and these indie styled Christmas songs on their myspace are very fun. Just from their single, Guilty By Association, you can hear their broad influences, Synths, poppy drumming, the band singing all together on echos and choruses, all over this good indie chaos! Michael and Tyrel come from opposite sides of the map but somehow have come together to give you sweet pop tunes. Complete with toys and kazoos, The Terrodactyls mix their synths to create quirky sing-along songs with an uninterruptable acoustic element. I have short flashbacks of childhood through high school, mainly thinking of good times when I'm track to trackin'. Try it! These guys have a self-titled album out from Pankof Records. You can get that album here. And as always, we got some tunes for you. You can listen more here. Landscapes & HeartachesDecoration DanielFallCheck out the vids! Happy Friday!

Food for Words
2007-11-18 22:52:00
I have to tell you that I have a secret love affair with words. For those of you who grew up reading stacks of books, was called a nerd, and aced the SAT verbal and SAT II Writing, then you will understand the delight that is contained in understanding and using words like triskeidokaphobia, jingoistic, conniption, avifauna, and chutzpah, in everyday language. However, finding a way to make this word obsession useful can be, well, difficult.Enter in Free Rice, a website that donates 20 grains of rice to the United Nations for every word that you get correct. You play a little vocab quiz of sorts where a word is given and if you answer correctly, voila, 20 grains donated. Twenty grains may not be that much, but for word lovers, this game will have you obsessed, and soon you'll be finding yourself donating hundred to even thousands of grains of rice. Think of the empty tummies that will get filled. It's also a great boost for your own vocabulary. You may learn valuable words like connip
