Apparently, i have two employment offers and i am in the dilemma to pick a right one. JenJOBS.com is starting to make its presence felt in the Malaysia job and recruitment market by featuring in the TV advert (NTV7). As far as I remember, this will be the third recruitment company in Malaysia to appear in the television after Jobstreet.com and JobsDb.com. I know, some job seeker will say, “Nah, I don’t need this. I only register with this abc-company.com because it’s the largest and most reliable and so on…”
I can understand his feeling. Perhaps he had a bad experience registering with JobsAndMore some time ago and had to endure a frustration when JobsAndMore went bust. A year ago, JobsAndMore was seen one of the young and promising recruitment portals after its launching in Dec 2005. The founder, Andrew Diamond claimed JobsAndMore were having more than 300,000 jobseekers before a lawsuit forced them for a closure.

For Jobstreet.com job seekers, in case you haven’t notice, now apart from getting job alerts from Jobstreet.com via SMS
Alert, you can also apply jobs through SMS via a little cute new Jobstreet.com feature known as SMS Apply. It’s not a free service but the charge for a single SMS is fairly priced at 30 cents. Currently this service is only available to jobseekers in Malaysia, and not applicable if you’re overseas having a roaming facility. And off course you will need to make sure your Jobstreet resume is currently up to date before sending your job application.How does it work? There are 2 ways to do this. One is to get the Job Code that comes together in the online adverts or newspapers. Secondly, if no Job Code is available, you can take down the email address of where the application should go. When your job application is successfully delivered, you will get a confirmation SMS.

The Firm (NTV7) fails to live up to expectations? 2007-06-27 21:02:35 I feel sorry for NTV7 and the contestants of the reality show THE FIRM. Apparently many people now refer The Firm as a circus field filled with text-book wise, non-competent bunch of people. Out of the many contestants, it seems that Dr Johar became the centre of attention and the talks of many. Not because he is charming and have a lot of charisma and leadership skills, but his lacking of those traits. Being a PHD holder, many expected him to deliver much more than that. A PHD holder in business field, he needs not only to be smart and intelligent, but able drive and motivate a team to deliver results .

New look on Virtue Associates’ website 2007-07-07 06:16:13 If you’ve been active in the job and employment market in the Penang area, especially close to Bayan Lepas industrial area you’re probably familiar with VirtueAssociates
(Virtue Associates Sdn Bhd) or VA. Virtue Associates is a Penang-based recruitment agency which now has an office in Jln Dr Awang, Bayan Lepas (If I’m not mistaken their previous office was based in Fettes Road).

Work and success without barrier 2007-07-06 06:17:56 I have the utmost respect for Kamarudin Ibrahim, who, despite his disabilities, not only knows how to survive, but at the same time having his own business and career, as well as providing jobs to other people.
Both Kamarudin’s legs are deformed, the feet twisted in such a way that makes it impossible for him to stand and walk properly. His right arm is almost a stump, stopping at the elbow, while there are only the thumb and little finger sticking out.

Download RECRUIT ezine 2007-07-04 18:07:57 Now you can download Recruit ezine from CareerMap website , owned by Aogos Sdn Bhd (which also owns Recruit2u.com). The ezine is published on every 5th and 20th of the month and is available in pdf format. According to the Aogos website, the ezine has a circulation of 50,000 and 200,000 readership on January 2007.
This is the first of the kind of ezine that combines information for jobseekers, employers and recruiters in one place (I am not sure this is a good thing or not). Apart from useful articles, you will also be able to browse through vacancies available advertised by employers as well as the recruiters.

Most of us know that in most cases we’ll need to provide 2 references in our resume. Is this really necessary? First of all, let me emphasize to you that having references is necessary but it is not mandatory for you to put your references (or call it referees) in your resume. As a matter of fact, I would encourage you NOT to put them in your resume. The only circumstance where you should put them in your resume is that when you’re running out of idea where else to keep the contacts of your references.
The reason is simple; first, as much as we can, we want to be the first to know whenever an employer makes contact with your references. In certain countries, it is even illegal for employers to contact your referees before letting you know of their intention. I know employers will not like what I say. But to give us justice, we want the prospective employer to evaluate our own good self first before listening to someone else’s opinion about us.

In 2005, Exabytes Sdn Bhd, a Malaysia web hosting company posted a revenue of RM1.7 million
s and still continues to grow. The founder of Exabytes is only a 26 year old guy by the name of Chan Kee Siak (I only realized this after 3 years being an Exabytes customer). Instead of following typical foot steps of normal college graduates finding jobs, he instead chose to be an entrepreneur. As the saying goes, ‘if you can’t get a job, create one!’ (In the case of Chan, he created not one but many).

Borang Jawatan Kosong MARA - Download now 2007-07-10 20:22:51
After making a few rounds of searching, I found a 6-page MARA (Majlis Amanah Rakyat) job application form (Borang Jawatan Kosong MARA). The form is in pdf form and needs to be printed out before filling up the form manually. As you would see, every thing in the job application form is in Malay language. The form is divided into a few main sections including applied job vacancies (3 options), personal and family details, education background, qualifications and so on.

Over 1 million jobs at Electronic Labour Exchange (ELX) 2007-07-09 19:44:23
There are currently almost 1.6 million
job vacancies available at the Malaysia very own electronic job matchmaker, Electronic
Labor Exchange
or ELX. According to the statistics released to The Star newspaper on 26 June 2007, ELX has recorded 297,173 registered job seekers and 66,423 registered employers.
According to the Director, Labour
Department Employment Division, Ahmad Mudi Onn Nor, to date Electronic Labour Exchange has successfully provide jobs for 40,915 job seekers. At the moment, the website is receiving an average of 4000 visitors per day.
The ELX also has stepped up the effort to add more convenience to the job seekers by setting up booths, stations or kiosks at the main shopping complexes to faciliate job seekers registration. Currently, there are 3 stations located at Bukit Bintang Plaza in KL, Kota Kinabalu and Kuching.

Plan (Rancangan Perniagaan or RP) which is written in Bahasa Melayu in the old SKOR Career website. Now that the new website is taking the .com.my domain, the sample was deleted from the previous web host server and is no longer available. Since people are still continuing to access the old url, I think it is fair if I upload it again on this new website.
Just a recap, the RP or Rancangan Perniagaan is almost an official term referring to the business plan we need to develop before starting a business, and perhaps more importantly, when we need to apply for loans from the banks, MARA and so on. The business plan sample is tailored according the standard of an approved business plan by the SME Bank. The sample was given to me while I was attending the SKIM USAHAWAN SISWAZAH (SUS) course in Shah Alam last year.

Malaysia short of Architects, environment not conducive? 2007-07-13 20:52:21
In a country rich with its architectural wonders e.g. The Twin Tower , The Putrajaya and so on, it will be shocking to hear that Malaysia
itself is short of Architects
. According to Dr Tan Loke Mun, President of Malaysia Institute of Architects, who spoke to The Star, there were some 1600 professional architects in Malaysia 10 years ago.
Today, the number remains the same. Compared to Australia, which has a similar number of population with Malaysia, there are presently around 12,000 professional architects.
Malaysia aims to have 10,000 architects by the year of 2020. I guess sooner or later the world will recognize Malaysia as a place which is not conducive to produce anything good despite the ‘best efforts’ made.

is finally here and creates bigger frenzy among the fans more than ever. Amazingly enough, the book became a best seller even before the book was officially released for sale.
Few hours ago, a radio news stated that a kid almost drowned after jumping into a lake when his copy of the latest Harry Potter’s book receipt fell into the lake. Thousands of people were also seen camping outside of the Waterstones Bookstore in London while here in Malaysia, MPH and Popular Bookstore do not sell the books to public and the book is only available to those who made pre-bookings.
Kudos to JK Rowling who has successfully elevated the reading habit into a completely new level. Few know the humble beginning of this writer, who before the release of her very first Harry Potter book, was a struggling mother and an unemployed living on welfare.
