The permutation and combination of occupants is currently being hotly debated in team meetings;
1. Dravid and Chappel cannot be on the same boat
2.Ganguly and Chappel should be at least 3 boats apart
3.Sachin prefers company of the old so no new chaps on his boat
4. Sreesanth’s boat might only accommodate 2 because he needs space to dance
5. Sehwag and Uthappa cannot be together because of Sehwag’s jealousy.

What does it take to be a good writer? 2007-02-17 04:36:13 This question first came to my mind when I read a paragraph in one of the job tests in early December. I have been wondering about it since then. After nearly 2 months of contemplating I am coming establishing the following beliefs without even a shadow of doubt- (GW- good writer)
1. A good writer needs a tough childhood. He/she should have been bullied as a child. GW is very emotional and sensitive as a child. A GW is someone who always feels jealous of someone’s success and translates his emotions in the form of prejudiced writing. His/her inspirations seem to have been drawn out of his frustration at not being able to bully someone else. As a child GW lacks the exuberance of a child. GW always prefers seclusion; no wonder GW has no or few friends. GW needs someone to demonize and blame all his/her woes on that ’someone’. GW should have a tough family life so that an element of suffering is sown at childhood level.

When I first saw this picture, my immediate attention went to that auto wala in the picture. 5 years of my stay in Chennai have made me hate them to the utmost degree. They look like extortionist to me. There have been very few occasions in which I happily parted out with the money. The meters are doctored so never ever go my meter in Chennai. Plus being non-Tamilian is a big factor, it basically multiplies the fare my 1.5 or even 2. There have been few incidents worth of a mention-
1. I was returning from Chennai Central at around 11 in the night. I thought of taking the local train back but to my surprise the local train station was already deserted. A MAN killed his 17-year-old daughter for having an affair with a boy in Banwaripur village in Meerut. Kulbhusan, according to the police, was upset over the relationship and had told his daughter Rajni to stop meeting the boy. When the girl refused, he strangled her. His brother Mahendra and son Dushyant helped him dump the body. The three allegedly burnt the body to hide their crime.
The Meerut police have collected Rajniâs bones from the spot and have sent them for forensic tests. According to the police, Rajni was having an affair with one Ravindra. Both of them were class 12 students at Rasna inter college. Ravindra told the police that they wanted to marry but their families were against the relationship.
Kulbhusan, Ravindra alleged, tried to implicate him in the murder but later broke down before the police and confessed to the crime.

I was playing with my brother on the veranda when mom called us inside. Doors were shut and all windows closed even though it was still not cold outside. We were pushed to the living room where Doordarshan was broadcasting news. It was quite unusual for DD to broadcast news in the evening but I soon found out why. Babri Masjid was being attacked my Kar Sewaks with unconfirmed reports that it has already been demolished. Even though at that age, 9 years, no one gives a damn about politics but I was born sensitive so was infuriated at a Masjid being demolished. Even though I didn’t know the names of RSS/VHP/BJP leaders but their continuous venomous speeches had made me realise that that they are ‘bad people’, at least for the Muslims (Fortunately Shahi Imam Bukhari was not a media darling at that time).

My immature mind was already corrupted by this communal feeling. I often wondered if we too will meet the same fate as other Muslims who perished in the riots. My mother lost her cousin in the Bengali-Bihari riots in Bangladesh. She told me that her cousin could save her daughter as she hid her below her saari who was later rescued by the police. At least I now have a hiding place in case of emergency!
The demographics are completely different in Bihar, my home state. Biharis are completely against Bengalis and this animosity has triggered riots several times. Basically this animosity is fueled by lack of education among local Biharis, which leads to unemployment among the locals, and thus Bengali, being highly educated, dominate the job market.

As far as I can remember the news about the Godhra incident starting flashing in the morning of February 27th. It was a period when the news channels were slowly coming up. Aaj Tak was growing great guns and so were Star News and Zee News. Doordarshan, government run channel, was pushed to the background by the private channels so that meant there were no censors in the news items. It was left to the discretion of the dudes from US/UK to decide what’s best for us. Aaj Tak got all the publicity because it was marketed as India’s own channel. Kanta ben, in Ahmedabad, lost her only son in the riots. She says that Muslims are not even worth keeping contact with. Firoze, a Muslim, and her son went out together but her son never returned back. Firoze has been absconding since.
Ahmed bhai, in Patna, lost his son few years ago. His son went out with his Hindu friends but was later found burnt to death in a remote location. Since his death the whole family is scared and they are planning to leave India forever.
