CSS Mini Tabs 2007-06-28 08:37:00 As featured on CSS Play, these mini tabs as used on sites like Yahoo....A method of compressing short pieces of information into six mini tabbed pages. The information can be anything you like, as long as it fits into the drop down page size. You can, of course, increase any of the size parameters and make up your own background images to suit. I have fitted my set of tabs into an absolute positioned div so that it will drop down over any content beneath. But if you remove the absolute positioning then it will just push the content out the way to make room. This has been tested in IE6, IE7, Firefox and Opera, it should also work in Safari.read more | digg storySubscribe to this feed

Desktoptwo - your free mobile home on the Internet 2007-06-13 15:27:00 Web technology developments are a great thing and moving at a fast pace recently, Desktoptwo seems like a pretty decent concept to me having just to log in and have your virtual computer desktop with essential basics apps there. Pretty nifty if you are away, just pop into an internet café and you're set.Desktoptwo is a free web-based desktop or webtop (some call it a WebOS, although we feel that's a bit premature... for now) that mimics the look, feel and functionality of a local computer, all contained within one browser window and fully accessible from any Internet

separating fact from fiction 2007-05-25 14:53:00 This week we (at my workplace I mean, not the forum) were visited by a sales person from one of the online directories.I knew in my mind at the beginning of the day that we didn't want to buy a 'better' listing on the directory, because we thought the site was pretty useless all in all. We decided that the only reason for buying a better listing would be if it helped with the search engine optimisation of our site.I started off by asking how many people actually searched for web design on their directory. She logged into her control panel - I forget how many it was but it wasn't a lot. I told her that I thought people were more likely to just Google it than use a directory. She wasn't happy with that.I then told her that I'd done extensive research (which I had), and found no entries in Google from her directory and that buying a better ad would be useless for us because it didn't fulfill our target of SEO.She really didn't like that, and started to get quite aggressive in her

Illustration and Competition 2007-05-07 10:55:00 While browsing Creative Review's MySpace page I was reminded of a site I stumbled across at least a year ago... Jeremyville. Although I find the website layout to be a bit chaotic, I do quite like his equally chaotic and cartoonish illustration style.Talking of CR's MySpace, I've just noticed a design competition that might be of interest. Voting begins at midnight on the 10th of May so we'll have to be quick.Theme: InnovationTask: Design the Don't Panic poster as part of the PlayStation® Season and theManchester International Festival. The Manchester International Festival is the world's first festival of new, original and innovative work. The best of the worst of LogoSauce 2007-07-05 10:23:00 How designers should ask for things to be designed without risking some amount of abuse. This was an experiment to see how the right kind of promotion can sell even the wrong kind of things. On logosauce there was a case of a designer asking other designers to design for them.
