The Bridge to Nowhere is Finally Leading Somewhere

Senator Ted Stevens and Representative Don Young, both of Alaska, are finally coming under more scrutiny regarding spending, according to the Anchorage Daily News. “When you are chairman of a committee, you represent the whole nation; you don’t represent one district, which is in my case is one state,” Young said. “Earmarks are good for the country and good for the people you represent. That is the role of a congressman. If you can’t get money for your district, you shouldn’t be in Congress.” Are the states supposed to be in some kind of competition, putting forth the representative able to get the most federal money for them? Also, Stevens says that this might change his “life in terms of employment potential.” Just say “re-election” already.
