To Pay and Not to Play 2006-10-23 04:11:08 Here’s a situation for you…
I’ve done it a few times now. Bought a game, usually something critically acclaimed, only to not play much of it (or worse yet play most of the way through) but not finish.
When it’s a game from the bargain bin it’s not that big of a deal. If you spend less than ten dollars on a game you can justify only a few hours out of it, but if you’re like me you want to beat the game regardless of its cost or playability. It’s like an Everest in your gamecase - the games you haven’t beaten even though you know you could.
I probably own over a hundred games - holy crap. I own over a hundred games, that’s between four consoles, four handhelds, and a PC. Wow…
Anyway, I probably own over a hundred games and have beaten about 75%. Are there many games that you’ve bought that you haven’t finished?

I’m very happy to say that I’m not the first to be disgruntled with the appalling grammar in this e-mail that, for the time being, remains unconfirmed.
Before I continue I should point out that I’m often guilty of such gramatical errors so I’m not Read more:Scheme

digg Integrator - Non Bug Alert!! 2006-10-22 23:50:53 I recently was notified about a bug which affects the digg Integrator
plugin.
This bug does not appear to be related to the digg Integrator code! It appears to be resulting from the JavaScript hosted by digg. I have not yet confirmed this but I have left a message on the “bug report” seciont of digg’s site.
If you, or your users, are running IE6 then the JavaScript does not work properly. Rather than browsing to digg and incrementing the story’s count the browser will travel to URL “javascript:null()” which does absolutely nothing.
I’ve confirmed that this issue exists and I’ve also confirmed that it has nothing to do with the digg Integrator code. If you visit other pages that use a JavaScript button, based on the digg API, the same problem arises. Things work fine in FireFox but not in IE6. I haven’t checked IE7 yet but I’ll be sure too soon.
If you see this, and have any suggestions or would like to contact me about i Read more:Alert
Could the PLAYSTATION 3 be delayed? 2006-10-21 01:40:33 Shh… hear that?
That’s the sound of money fleeing Sony’s bank accounts.
After word that Sony’s BDP-S1 Blu-Ray player will be delayed
speculation started circling concerning the PS3.
Bloggers are much smarter than Sony gives them credit for. Yesterday Sony got caught slinging “facts” about the XBox360 and Nintendo Wii which were patently false. Today, we get word that a Blu-Ray player, a Sony branded one at that, is being delayed due to hardware shortages. If Sony Blu-Ray players are getting delayed, and the PS3 is a Sony Blu-Ray player, well… I wonder what may happen with the PS3’s release?
While this hasn’t been confirmed, and we can be sure that Sony will deny it until the last minute, it’s something that may be worth considering - especially if you are looking to shell out cash for a pre-order and can’t risk the console not materializing in a timely fashion.
[Update 1] Bloomberg.com Worldwide is running a similar
This just in: Sony Clueless, Again 2006-10-20 04:55:38 It seems that Best Buy, GameStop, Circuit City, Amazon and a slew of other retailers missed an essential memo concerning the price of the XBox360 Core System. Did you know that the 360 core bundle, after required purchases, comes to roughly $698? (this courtesy of a Sony
Document released earlier today.)
No wonder Sony thinks the PS3 is affordable at $499.
Obviously this is wrong. If Sony really wanted to get technical they’d point out that PLAYSTATION3 buyers will also need to purchase a fire-extinguisher just for bringing a SIXAXIS, with it’s bundled Sony remote detonator … er rechargeable battery… into their house.
One odd thing - they actually get most of the Wii information right. Does this mean that they are more threatened by the XBox360?
With all the garbage Sony has been spewing during this console war we might as well start calling it the BS3 and get it over with.

Nintendo DOESN'T make a No-No 2006-10-20 01:55:51 Nintendo has announced that the US will be seeing a Gamecube Twilight Princess release in stores (and not solely online) despite recent speculation. It’s good to hear!
OK, you may remember that the GameCube version of Twighlight Princess won’t be sold on shelves in Japan.
While I understand why Nintendo has made this decision it’s sad to see Twighlight Princess falling off of the shelves at EB Games and Gamestop, and potentially other North American retailers, as well.
What’s particularly disappointing is that many retailers have been taking pre-orders for ages now. Best Buy, for example, has been offering special deals on Twilight Princess pre-orders for over a year.
To make matters worse who ends up with egg on their face? Not Nintendo… the average gamer really doesn’t follow these kind of developments and will most likely be blaming their local B&Ms for the current situation. While this is still a borderline rumor many blogs, including Read more:Nintendo
Gears of War Gets NO Rating in Germany 2006-10-19 03:38:06 You may remember that a few months back Dead Rising was banned in Germany
mostly because the USK (Unterhaltungssoftware Selbstkontrolle), Germany’s software ratings board, felt it was too violent.
Well, another big game for Microsoft’s XBox360 is getting similar treatment.
In the case of Gears
of War the USK has refused to rate the game, effectively making it impossible for German stores to sell the title. It’s an interesting predicament for Microsoft, who has been relying on GoW to make a big impression.
While German gamers won’t be able to buy GoW from their local gameshops, they will be able to import the title from Austria if they want to get their Chainsaw on. Again, an interesting predicament.
Obviously Dead Rising didn’t have any troubles in the US. I’m betting has their fingers crossed hoping Gears of War doesn’t attract too much undue attention.

Free PSP Indie Movie 2006-10-19 02:41:24 It’s always nice to see folks working outside the box. This drive to ‘work outside the box’ is exactly what makes games like Okami, Katamari Damacy and Guitar Hero work.
In hollywood, and the movie industry in general, it’s also a gamble that can result in great success.
Enter indie-producer John Lamond Jr. who has decided to release his most recent film, Killing Time (24/7), as a free PSP download.
While it’s only available for direct download right now I’m sure some torrents will be popping up eventually.
I wonder what the MPAA would think if more directors and producers started releasing full length movies for free download?
Of course… I haven’t watched the movie yet so we’ll see.

Wii Retail Box Pics 2006-10-18 04:09:42 Go Nintendo has a great post up today showcasing some pictures of the Wii
’s retail box.
The pics, which you’ll have to head to GoNintendo to see, include some interesting facts about the console and what’s bundled with it. No real surprises with the exception of the Opera logo.
One thing that is interesting though is mention of the “Startup Disc.” While folks on the GoNintendo comments are speculating it’s probable that this is the Firmware Upgrade Disc that the Wii was rumored to be shipping with.

Sony says no Entitlements 2006-10-24 02:46:29 Awhile back you may remember that there was talk of Sony
offering up a system of “entitlements” that were supposed to be like Microsoft’s achievements. Personally I think one of Microsoft’s biggest successes in setting the tone for “next-gen” gaming was the creation of the achievement system.
In many titles, like Prey for example, the game gets a bit of added replay value as you search out the various achievements. Yeah, there are a ton of crappy achievements, most of them revolving around ranked multiplayer, but the chance to accrue points and show them off is really cool.
I hate hating on the PS3 - but Sony’s making it too easy.
Am I the only one who thinks the achievement system is a symbol of “next-gen?”
Marvel Ultimate Alliance Launch Trailer 2006-10-24 02:01:26 I broke down and pre-ordered MarvelUltimateAlliance
yesterday, the recent video showing of Silver Surfer taking on Galactus put me over the edge. A couple different companies are offering pre-order deals that include unlock codes for characters (so far I’ve heard of Silver Surfer and Daredevil) you’ll have to do some looking though - do it quick though because it’s scheduled for release this week.
If you don’t know much about the game, or want to get an early look, the “Launch
” trailer is up on YouTube. It won’t give you too much of a look at the gameplay, which appears to be alot like X-Men Legends, but it will show off some of the really excellent cut-scenes.
Check it out:
