Summer in Minneapolis means Lake Harriet! 2007-07-07 10:19:13
Bikes. Roller Blades. Sailboats. Kids feeding the ducks. Rose garden. Trolley ride. Popcorn and ice cream. Picnics. Beach. Bandshell. Common mental images of Lake Harriet for all of us. Why can’t it always be summer?
This 335 acre lake in south Minneapolis
has a 2.7 mile shorelength ringed by paved trails, and is the perfect size for jogging. There are also a second trail for bikes and roller blades so you don’t get run over.
Lake Harriet Bandshell, South Minneapolis.
Walleye are alive and well here. Who’da thunk it? And, they are getting bigger too! According to the DNR, average sizes are 3.3 pounds. Not bad for a city lake. Walleyes get active here later in the day, but unfortunately, Minneapolis prohibits fishing after midnight. With the exception of the east lakeshore, Harriet gets very deep very fast (up to 87 feet) so you should chase them right along the weedline. You will have the best luck with live bait here.

Merry Trout Fishing on Christmas Lake (Chanhassen and Shorewood) 2007-07-19 00:19:49
Yup, there’s rainbow trout in that lake! Who whudda thunk it? Maybe I need a trout fishing category for my “Best Minnesota Lakes for Fishing
” pages.
This lake is the biggest surprise for fishing around here. You might miss the turn-off from Hwy 7, and many folks don’t even know the lake exists. It’s well hidden from all roads, and looks very private and inaccessible. Not so! Beyond all of those trees, there is a wonderful public concrete access ramp with seven trailer spaces. Some of the local kids walk down to the dock with worms and ten-dollar fishing poles that say “Simpsons” or “Spider Man” (they work just fine, by the way) and have much success snagging bluegills and pumpkinseeds.
Here’s a rainbow trout found in its ideal habitat of rice and onions.
The size and depth of this lake is also a surprise. It’s 257 acres and drops off quickly at the northeast corner to a depth of 87 feet!! What is unusual about th Read more:Christmas
