The internet is getting dangerous
2007-06-28 18:02:27
Man you know you are drinking too much when when you are randomly surfing the net and you see a picture of yourself drunk in a pub on someone else’s website. Saw a pic of myself of Carries Bebo page. With pictures of Carrie! The girl who hates having her pictures taken. Or am I missing the whole point of this Bebo thing?

Found this on google video. Thought it was cool so I’ll share it with you. I especially like just as the balloon bursts and the water still retains the balloons shape.

Air Hostess
2007-06-12 12:03:58
A guy sitting at a bar at Heathrow Airport noticed a really beautiful woman sitting next to him.He thought to himself: “Wow, she’s so gorgeous she must be an off duty flight attendant. But which airline does she work for?”Hoping to pick her up, he leaned towards her and uttered the Delta slogan: “Love to fly and it shows?” She gave him a blank, confused stare and he immediately thought to himself: “Damn, she doesn’t work for Delta.” A moment later, another slogan popped into his head. He leaned towards her again, “Something special in the air?” She gave him the same confused look. He mentally kicked himself, and scratched Singapore Airlines off the list. Next he tried the Thai Airways slogan: “Smooth as Silk.” This time the woman turned on him, “What the f *** do you want?” The man smiled, then slumped back in his chair, and said “Ahhhhh, Ryanair”

Using Gmail on Kopete
2007-06-06 16:20:15
Upgraded to KUbuntu 7.04 today. Went fine. Had to update my kopete again with my accounts though. I think I might have deleted the settings by mistake when I was cleaning up. Anyway I looked around the net for instruction on how to set up Google Talk for Kopete and got different settings everywhere I went. Different port groups etc. SO anyway I said I’ll post the instructions as someone may find it useful. Settings->Configure-.New Select Jabber On the first tab enter your account name with the @gmail.com at the end. So myname@gmail.com On the second tab enter the following [x] Use protocol encryption (SSL) [x] Allow plain-text password authentication [x] Override default server information Server: [talk.google.com] Port: [5223] And that’s it!

Back from Holidays
2007-06-03 17:52:34
Just got back from my holidays. Went from Cork to Dublin to Belfast to Derry to Galway. Good fun. Went to see Tara, Newgrange, Carrick a Rede rope bridge (where Lorri lost her shoe over the side!) and the Giants Causeway. Everytime I went on holidays to different countries I met someone who had been to Ireland and they always asked me have I see the Giants Causeway, Newgrange or whatever. So I said the next time I had a week off I’d drive around the country. Took some photos which can be viewed here. Was well worth it, Newgrange and the Giants Causeway were fantastic and Derry is a great City! Second best City in Ireland in my opinion (after Cork of course). They really need to advertise more in the South. The walls are fantastic and the people are really friendly. More friendly than any of the other places we’ve been to in Ireland and that is some achievement. Probably because tourism is such a new thing as the area is only after quietening down recently. I would recommen

The Unthinkable has Happened
2007-05-23 01:27:57
The unthinkable has happened. I have broadband (well ADSL). I finally managed to get my line off of Smart. And it took going to a Solicitor to do it! I had to get one to draft up a letter saying I would take them to court over it. Suddenly order numbers were being given out, people were ringing me back and they got in touch with Eircom and got things sorted. Amazing! It was actually sorted out quite quickly and easily. But it boggles the mind why this couldn’t have been done from the start and why I had to go to such extremes to get them to do something which ended up being quite painless. Wasters!

Micháel O’Muircheartaigh classic GAA quotes.
2007-06-29 06:58:32
“Seán Óg Ó’Hailpín…. his father’s from Fermanagh, his mother’s from Fiji, neither a hurling stronghold” “… and Brian Dooher is down injured. And while he is, i’ll tell ye a little story. I was in Times’ Square in New York last week, and I was missing the Championship back home. So I approached a newsstand and I said ‘I suppose ye wouldn’t have the Kerryman would ye?’ To which, the Egyptian behind the counter turned to me and he said ‘do you want the North Kerry edition or the South Kerry edition?’… he had both…so I bought both. And Dooher is back on his feet…” “Anthony Lynch the Cork corner back will be the last person to let you down - his people are undertakers” “I saw a few Sligo people at Mass in Gardiner street this morning and the omens seem to be good for them, the priest was wearing the same colours as the Sligo jersey! 40 yards out on the Hoga

A Typical GAA Junior B Line up
2007-07-12 02:21:35
As part of my new get fit buzz I’m looking into starting hurling with some Junior B Club in the city. Probably Brian Dillons in Montenotte as that’s where I live. Was getting some advice from the forums in RebelGaa.com. Most of the advice centred around protective gear and the athletic ability of most Junior B Players. Anyway this reminded me of a joke mail I got a while back so I’ve fished it out here again. Goalie - must have ‘great goalmouth presence’…. which is secret code for being fat enough to have his own gravitational pull. Always in the 40-50 age bracket, this is a gent that will almost convince you that he played minor for the county in goal, even though the last time he got his knees dirty diving was at a Ceili in 1965 when his version of the Hucklebuck went out of control, with numerous casualties. Right corner back - the quiet man of the line-up he seems to escape the jokes in the dressing-room just because no-one has ever seen him ang

Irish Weather
2007-07-23 02:08:49
What do you call two straight days of rain in Ireland? A weekend. It only rains twice a year in Ireland: August through April and May through July. What’s the definition of an Irish optimist? A man guy with a sun visor on his rain hat. “I can’t believe it,” said the tourist. “I’ve been here an entire week and it’s done nothing but rain. When do you have summer here?” “Well, that’s hard to say,” replied the local. “Last year, it was on a Wednesday.” A curious fellow died one day and found himself in limbo waiting in a long, long line for judgment. As he stood there, he noticed that some souls were allowed to march right through the gates of heaven. Others were led over to Satan, who threw them into a lake of fire. Every so often, instead of hurling a poor soul into the fire, Satan would toss him or her to one side. After watching Satan do this several times, the fellow’s curiosity got the better of him.

Irish Driving Rules
2007-08-20 03:54:23
1. Indicators will give away your next move. A confident Irish driver avoids using them. 2. Under no circumstance should you maintain a safe distance between you and the car in front of you, because somebody else will fill in the space, putting you in an even more dangerous situation. 3. The faster you drive through a red light, the less chance you have of getting hit. 4. Never get in the way of an older car that needs extensive bodywork. With no insurance, the other operator probably has nothing to lose. 5. Braking is to be done as hard and late as possible to ensure that your ABS kicks in, giving a vigorous foot massage as the brake pedal violently pulsates. For those of you without ABS,it’s a chance to strengthen your leg muscles. 7. Speed limits are arbitrary figures and purely advisory, given only as a suggestion and are not enforceable in Ireland during rush hour. 6. Never pass on the right when you can pass on the left. It’s a good way to prepare other drivers enteri

Limerick gangs order hit on Spaniel
2007-08-28 07:15:05
Read this in the Irish Independent today “SOME of the country’s most dangerous criminal gangs have put out a contract on a specially trained sniffer dog that has almost cleared a prison of illegal drugs. Rocky, a two-year-old black-and-white spaniel, began his crime fighting career in Limerick Prison a fortnight ago and is proving to be a knockout success in the detection of drugs smuggled into the jail. Such is the canine’s success rate that convicted criminals inside the jail frustrated with the drugs drought have ordered their associates in Limerick’s crime gangs to have the dog killed. Last Thursday, some of the city’s most notorious criminals in the D2 wing of the jail staged a riot and smashed all their TVs in protest at the new recruit. Convicted criminals have even attempted to take pictures of Rocky on their mobile phones and send it to gangs outside the jail so that contracted hitmen will recognise the drug- busting dog.” Full story here.

You have choosen to open install.php
2007-09-26 02:01:06
Was install ing a new wordpress blog today as a Beta for the new Millstreet website. Each time I tried to run the install.php Firefox prompted me to download it. “You have chosen to open install.php”. It was really weird. I tried different browsers but they all had the same issue. Each time I looked on the net I was told the issue was with my server not being configured properly for PHP but I have other blogs running PHP that work fine. Weird! Anyway I figured it out. You need to increase the amount of memory PHP scripts can use on your server. Otherwise when you reach the limit they will not be executed. To increase the amount of memory PHP scripts can use you will need to increase the memory_limit value in /etc/php5/apache2/php.ini. Also I found a nice line you can add to a page to get all of your PHP info. Create a page called test.php and add the following line to it. <?php echo phpinfo(); ?> Now when you open that page you will be given some useful information abo

Save Tara Campaigners Form Human Harp
2007-09-25 02:45:17
Tara Campaigners formed a human harp on the Hill of Tara to protest against the shameful destruction of our history for a fecking road. Think of all the stories you read as a child of the High Kings, Cú Chulainn, The Red Branch Knights etc. Well I loved those stories as a kid and loved reading about the Celts and the Kings of Ireland raiding cattle and fighting Vikings. In fact I still do. And the Government idiots are going to build a road through the middle of it. After it standing for thousands of years, surviving Vikings, Normans and the English we go a drive a road through the middle of it. Also Brú na Boinne (Newgrange) and other monuments in the vicinity will be in danger as new housing estates will surely spring up along the road as people will want to live near it if they are travelling to Dublin to work. Insanity! P.S. I wonder is there such thing as planning permission for a road. I know it is nearly impossible to get planning for a house if even one person disagrees wi

Opening Last.fm links in Amarok
2007-09-20 13:19:30
I love amaroK and the last.fm component has helped me find a load of music. However when you go to the website and try and open one of the station in Firefox you get the error “Firefox doesn’t know how to open this address because the protocol (lastfm) isn’t associated with any program “. Well to work around this do the following and the next time you click on the link in Firefox it will open in amaroK Open the advanced configuration by typing “about:config” n the address bar. Right click and choose “New -> String” Create a string called “network.protocol-handler.app.lastfm” Give it the value “/usr/bin/amarok” or wherever you have installed the amaroK binary. And that’s it. You can now open lastfm links in amaroK.

Good News, Better News
2007-09-12 03:31:23
Well good news for Cork, not Kieran Donaghy . Good News : KIERAN DONAGHY was at the centre of an all-Ireland final injury scare last night after limping out of Kerry’s training session. Better News: ANTHONY LYNCH, who broke a bone in a hand during a practice match last Saturday and was immediately ruled out, is now being given an outside chance of playing. Cork doctor Con Murphy originally indicated that because of the nature of the break Lynch had no chance of playing, but now they are thought to be exploring every possibility that would allow the experienced defender to play.
