Saints D not THAT bad?
2007-07-23 10:10:32
I was just having a look at the NFL.com page and seen that the poll up today is asking for the best Defense in the NFCSouth. Of course I hit a vote for the Panthers but I was surprised by the results so far in the poll. Panthers 51% Saints 26% Bucs 17% Falcons 6% The Saints are traditionally on the bottom of this list. Should this be attibuted to the Saints offseason moves or the decline of the Falcons and Bucs? Although there were no stellar signings in the offseason they did bring in help in the D-Backfield and LB corps. Charles Grant was locked up and teamed with Will Smith makes a jiggy duo on the ends of the line. The middle of the line is still a worry and now Bryant Young broke his foot. Apparently the voting public feels that the Saints are not as bad on the defensive side of the ball as usual. What does this say for the Falcons and Bucs? Just a year ago these two squads were still considered some of the best in the league. tag: nfl, football, defense, falcon

Perfect Timing for College Football Live!
2007-07-25 08:52:36
So I got a chance to catch the new College Football Live on ESPN last night. For those not in the know, this is ESPN’s College Football answer to NFL Live, new for 2007. On the College Football page of ESPN you can submit video and email questions. The show airs on ESPN, Mon.-Fri., 3:30 ET. I call it perfect timing for a few reasons. First of all, I love the women pictured above. What says college football better than a couple hot Co-ed hardbodies ripping their schools shirt to bare cleavage? NOTHING! Other than being a good excuse to post the above picture, it’s perfect timing because if others are along with me, people are getting sick of the talk in the NFL right now. NFL Live has become the Court TV of Sports. I It’s perfect timing because it is late July and people are really getting pumped for the football season and will devour anything put in front of them. This is good because actually watching the show it can take a little bit for them to work out

Aaron Brooks Top Story!
2007-07-24 11:02:37
Well, not really. I’m so convinced that Aaron Brooks is not headline worthy right now that I found it odd that I seen his name in headlines TWICE in one day. Michael David Smith of The Fanhouse discussed the possibility of Aaron Brooks taking his cousin Michael’s place in Atlanta. Brooks, of course, is Vick’s cousin. Things could get interesting at the next family reunion if one of Vick’s cousins might be the key witness against him, and another might be his replacement. Then I see that KFFL is reporting that Brooks is meeting with the Steelers. Steelers | Team visits Brooks Tue, 24 Jul 2007 07:33:07 -0700 John Clayton, of ESPN.com, reports the Pittsburgh Steelers have visited with free-agent QB Aaron Brooks (Raiders). ESPN’s John Clayton So now that the flood gates have opened can we expect Aaron Brooks to Jax, KC, Oakland…(oh yeah, we tried that). tag: nfl, falcons, football, michael vick, aaron brooks, john clayton, fanhouse, espn

I was just thinking yesterday that we could see randy Moss play his most committed football season in years being on a legit contender. The Pats have 12 WR’s that are going to be fighting for 5-6 spots. Chad Jackson is already fighting for a roster spot. Companies are pulling Vick merch left and right. Even the NFL Shop is taking his stuff of the website. “Donruss, one of four major trading card companies, has decided to pull Vick’s card from any future 2007 releases, according to Beckett Media, which covers the collectibles industry.” What this tells me is that there are going to be a flood of Michael Vick Ebay items. If he comes out of this unscathed and resurrects his career, those Don Russ cards that did make it to the public are going to become little cash pots tot he Ebay card sellers. Tavaris Jackson get his own era in Minnesota and it starts now. Here we have the canned confidence quote from a WR. “Just the balls he throws, veteran players

As Michael Vick makes his appearance in court, the Joey Harrington era is set to begin in Atlanta. Man I bet Joe Horn has to be pissed off. Man…these guys can’t catch a break. Warrick Dunn is going to miss some time after surgery. Michael Bush has signed and is ready to become the guy who would have been the running back of the future for the Raiders if it were not for the bum leg. Wade Phillips was met with a standing ovation at the Alamo Dome as Cowboys camp opened. “There’s not any training camps like this that I know of or that I’ve been in,” said Phillips, entering his 31st season in the NFL and with his seventh franchise. “This was probably the most and the most enthusiastic. It helps because your players practice better. When the fans are out there, they’re going to do more, so I think it’s a real plus for us.” The Sun Herald has five questions going into the Saints camp concerning Robert Meachem, Brian You

Screw NFL Network! I’m watching MMA Sunday
2007-07-30 13:55:04
The Hall of Fame Game is creeping up on being 50 years-old. The game that is grouped with the annual HOF inductions and is the kickoff to the meaningless, yet much awaited pre-season of the NFL lands next weekend. Being a HUGE Saints fan and Steeler Hater (Not really, just a lot of family and friends that are Steeler fans so I have to smack) I have been looking forward to the game at Fawcett Stadium since it was announced. I couldn’t wait to see my Saints for the first time since the season they had gone a game away from the Super Bowl. Couldn’t wait to be lighting up the phone talking smack to my cousin and childhood friends that have been lifelong Steeler fans. A meaningless game but it means so much knowing that football is being played. But I won’t be watching the game. I’m being reminded just how much the NFL pisses me off. I’m not a big fan of the NFL Network for the simple reason that I don’t have it. It’s not available in my area

All the talk in the offseason has been about DeAngelo Williams and how he will excel in the new zone blocking scheme. There is reason to believe that the current starting RB, DeShaun Foster may not do too bad himself with it. Matt Leinart had an interview in the paper about football…no, really. “I know the expectations are high and stuff,” he said Sunday after the Cardinals’ first practice of training camp, “but I just control what I do. I’m not worried about what other people are going to say to me. I’m worried about helping this football team. That’s my job.” Eric Mangini is learning what it’s like to have a first round holdout in Darrelle Revis. “Every day is critical for people to be here,” Eric Mangini said yesterday of the impact of Revis’ absence. “Every day, we’re putting things in, installing news defenses, working on situational defense. Vince Young is living up to his Wonderlic scores by punching a teammate in the helmet with his throwing hand. Despite the throwing hand thing, the leader of the team should not likely be throwing punches. The upside to it was that he was sticking up for his WR’s. “My preference is not to see my quarterback throwing punches with his throwing hand,” Coach Jeff Fisher said with a slight smile. Dante Culpepper has arrived in Raiders camp. He got some reps but spent more time in the classroom trying to catch up on the offense. This really is a good situation for the Raiders. If Culpepper doesn’t work out he should still serve the purpose of running the offense until Russell is signed and ready to go. “Lane made the final decision, but I wanted it to happen,” Raiders managing general partner Al Davis said. “I like to take chances like that. I don’t know what the risk is. I don’t see any real risk.” For now, Luke McCown

LSU may have found Mike VI

Apparently LSU has found the replacement for the deceased Mike V (Take that PETA!). “We have identified a tiger,” said Ginger Guttner, LSU School of Veterinary Medicine spokeswoman, “and plans are under way to transfer that tiger to LSU sometime in August.” They would like to get Mike VI on campus, registered, through orientation and make sure he doesn’t kill anyone for the first two weeks before he can start getting his mascot on. “Once the tiger is here and gone through a (two-week) quarantine will it be formally introduced,” Guttner said. “And only then will it become Mike VI.” tag: ncaa, college, football, lsu, mike V, mike VI, tiger

I know it’s how you take it in print but by reading this line I don’t know if all the Panthers staff are on the same page… “I think everybody does a combination of man, zone and gap blocking and some lead blocking,” said new offensive line coach Dave Magazu. “I think it’s just, what are you going to major in? And we’re going to lean a little bit more on the zone stuff.” Andrew Walter was the only QB on the Raiders roster at one point this offseason. Now you have Walter, Josh McCown, Dante Culpepper, and someday JaMarcus Russell. Dante Culpepper has a one year deal with the Raiders. Hopefully it does more for his resume than it did for Aaron Brooks. “He’ll be part of the competition to be the starting quarterback,” coach Lane Kiffin said of Culpepper. “We’ll give him the opportunity and see if he can take it and if he can’t, he’ll be a backup. “He said he’s not worried ab

In what we think is a very cool move, the 49′ers will be wearing throwback jerseys in honor of Bill Walsh when they face off against the Cards in the season opener. Elsewhere with the Niners, TE Vernon Davis is apparently a hot head who isn’t going to take crap from anyone on the field. That can be good until flags start flying. Coach Nolan is drawing a line for him…often. “It means a lot to Vernon to make plays and be a good player. I don’t want to take that away from him,” Nolan said. “At the same time, I am always talking to him saying this is (going) too far, this isn’t.” Apparently Davis got into a scuffle with Guard Larry Allen. I can see if it was a defender but what are you fighting about on the same side of the ball? Something a lot of people may not remember is that Jon Kitna was the mentor to Carson Palmer when he came in to the league. “I learned a lot. Not about playing quarterback, but about being a p

Spurrior pissed at SC
2007-08-06 09:29:07
After South Carolina denied admission to two SC recruits, Steve Spurrior has said that he may have to go somewhere else if that is how the show is going to be run. “As long as I’m the coach here, we’re going to take guys that qualify,” Spurrier said. “If not, then I have to go somewhere else because I can’t tell a young man, ‘You’re coming to school here,’ he qualifies, and not do that. And we did that this year.” “I’ve got to apologize to two young men that we recruited. They qualified. They signed with us in February. They were denied admission to our school,” Spurrier said. “Personally, I don’t think that’s the way you do business. I’m embarrassed that I and our coaches basically misled these young men into believing they were coming here.” Some rumors have been that the Gamecocks recruited too many players but Spurrior denies this saying they had a plan to fit all players in. tag: south carolina, gamecocks, steve spurrior, ncaa, college,

The highly pimped WEC Live on Versus was last night. The two title fights were over quick and neither quite went as expected. There was a lot of talk about how Americans may not take to the fighting style of Paulo Filho. He is a Brazilian Jui-Jitzu fighter who fights a thinking man’s fight…this can be translated as boring for the casual fan. Unexpectedly, Filho let his hands go and won a 1st round TKO. In the post fight interview Filho appeared to be bored and acted like a guy who just finished his first day as a temp at a crappy factory. Here are the videos of the two title fights, both ending in the first round. Watch them while you can as they likely won’t be up long. RESULTS (From WEC) Carlos Condit Vs. The Cowboys topped the Colts in Wade Phillips first game on the sidelines for The Boys. “I thought it was a pretty good first outing,” Phillips said. “It’s not a regular-season game, but it’s nice to come in and play well at home, which you need to establish, and not turn the ball over and not let them run the ball. So I think we did some things well. Hard work can pay off. Winning whatever kind of game is important.” Calvin Johnson got on the field for the first time and made a couple good catches for 45 yards. Sean Payton is keeping a close eye on the D-tackle position tonight. Kendrick Clancy is getting the nod to start over Hollis Thomas. “It’s a combination of (Clancy) playing pretty well and Hollis needing to get his weight down,” Payton said. “When it’s hot like it is now, (Hollis) is not real productive and he understands that.” To little too late. Where were you for 765?
2007-08-08 06:12:26
There are things you always remember. I was in my bedroom as a kid when I seen “The Catch” that sent the 49′ers to the Super Bowl. I was sitting on my living room floor when I watched Walter Payton break Jim Brown’s career rushing record. I was sitting in my living room as an adult when I watched Emmitt Smith break Payton’s record. I was sitting in a buddies living room when we watched John Elway finally get his Super Bowl ring. I was sitting in my sisters living room when Mark McGwire broke the single season HR mark. getting out of someone’s living room I was walking by and stopped at a TV at a dog track when I watched Barry Bonds break McGwire’s single season record. Last night I fell asleep rather early. I woke up, got myself a cup of coffee and sat down. I quit turning SportsCenter on years ago. There I see it…Barry Bonds took 765 out to right field. I missed it. Like Mike Bacsik will always come to mind when Barry Bonds

Let’s look at some Preseason games!
2007-08-12 10:06:30
Looking at these scores it looks like an exciting weekend for NFL football…then we remember it’s August. Bears down the Texans 20-19 Cedric Benson is officially “The Man” in Chicago. He gained 23 yards on five carries in the Bear’s preseason victory over the Texans. ”It feels good,” Benson said. ”It’s good for me because I wanted to get a feel for what I needed to work on, or if I was running high or if I needed to get lower. I thought today was pretty good, but it won’t stop there. We are going to work on improving some things and try and get those first downs and big plays to put points on the board.” This is as good a time as any to use TINO’s resident Bears fan Gregster’s pic of Benson from Bears camp. My little hometown’s hero, Sage Rosenfells did what he does best, come in off the bench and throw TD’s. He hit Jeb Putzier for the one Texans touchdown. “When you have someone come

Vick, al-Qaeda, and Microwave testing.
2007-08-15 16:19:17
This just keeps getting better. Michael Vick is stealing Pit Bulls and fighting them (which they would be useless unless this guy had bred and trained them to fight) for money to buy missiles from Iran and he is hiding Bin Laden in some small house in Virginia apparently as he has pledged his allegiance to al-Qaeda . This explains the whole airport incident. This guy is a nut job or he is pretty damn funny. Either way, I hope Vick has to pay him the $63 Billion Dollars. Here are some of my favorite quotes from the hand written lawsuit. pdf file can be read HERE. “Michael Vick subjected me to microwave testing.” “Michael Vick used drugs in school zones.” “Michael Vick has to stop physically hurting my feelings and dashing my hopes.” tag: nfl, falcons, lawsuit, michael vick, al-qaeda, pitbull, dog fighting, football

Is there a QB Competition to care about in 07′?
2007-08-14 13:40:41
One the biggest, easiest, news stories each season is the QB controversy. Who will lead the team to glory? 2007 seems to have the media stuck in a form of routine as the QB still catches the headlines. Of course, each team has it’s fan base that is interested but it is a pretty slow year for the QB battles which makes me ask, is there one to really care about? One of the biggest QB headline grabbers this offseason that did not involve dogs being killed was Trent Green to Miami, Culpepper to be out the door. What’s going on with this? Possibly making a story where there isn’t one, the media is wondering if Cleo Lemon may be the man in Miami. Huh? The Dolphins have the best chance to do anything this season out of the teams with a QB question but this is a reach if they want to do anything. As they wait for JaMarcus Russell in Oakland, Daunte Culpepper has landed in a vicious battle with…Andrew Walter and Josh McCown. Culpepper is single handedly makin

According to Cam Cameron, there is a chance of it happening. Fire-up the fantasy waiver wires! “The best running back will play.” Cameron said Brown is young in terms of carries, adding, “We have to give him a chance to develop.” Those Falcons just can’t catch a break at QB. Most of you have heard about that Michael Vick thing. Fans and media type gave the Falcons hell for trading away Matt Schaub, especially after the Vickcapades. Now backup, and fan favorite, D.J.
