In Desperate Need Of Another Weekend 2007-06-25 15:03:54 My weekend started last week Wednesday, hence the reason I didn’t blog much lately.
I took the three days off word because my boyfriend had to go in for an operation, and thus it wasn’t really a holiday, but I’m still glad I took the time off. I’d have hated to go through something like that on my own.
He had a minor foot opp - just mending the ligaments again, but he’s foot is in a cast for six weeks now! Pity, cause its exactly in the time that Fall Out Boy and UB40 are in South Africa! (Damn it!)
I spent Wednesday & Thursday in the hospital with him, but on Friday he came home, so then I could actually do something more than just sit. I made Turkish delight! I’ve been planning to do so for a while now, and finally got around to it. The first time round it wasn’t as nice as I’d hoped for. I used a recipe, and I must say I was not impressed. I sprayed the pan with Spray ‘n Cook, and the Turkish delighted tasted like it Read more:Desperate

Patience Is A Virtue? 2007-06-25 06:55:37 Damn I don’t think I’m very virtuous
I’m one of the most impatient people I know. Like now I can’t wait until this blog is up and running like my previous one was.
If you noticed my old blog is unavailable, its because Wordpress decided to close it down. Luckily I was in the process of getting this one ready, so I wasn’t caught too off guard - I just had to rush things a bit. I think I finally got a theme? Tell me what you think about it. I needed something different than the normal Wordpress themes, but with a sidebar which at least displays my blogroll.
Now I’m kinda comfy here, except that hardly anyone has been around. It’d be nice to know that you guys found me again? I miss your comments!
For those of you who’d like to swap links, please leave me a comment!! Read more:Virtue
Disappointment 2007-06-25 03:10:19 Everyone is disappointed at some point or another. And its even worse if you love the person and they you. Why are we disappointed? Obviously because we expect something more or different, and then don’t receive the wanted attention, or expected behavior. This might be due to a lack of communication or even just because the other person was selfish or inconsiderate.
Whatever the reason, it is more important to learn to deal with it. Not as a couple. But you, and I as individuals. Even if the other party doesn’t apologize or show regret. To remain emotionally healthy yourself, you need to forgive the person, and move on, right? Right… Its not always so easy.
It is very important to realize that we cannot hold other people responsible for what we feel. What you feel is up to you. If you were disappointed, you should review your expectations of the other person? Is it fair? Sometimes the other person was really at fault, but very often it was just a differen Read more:Disappointment
Bill Gates vs. General Motors 2007-06-18 08:41:13 For all of us who feel only the deepest love and affection for the way computers have enhanced our lives, read on:
At a recent computer expo (COMDEX), Bill Gates
reportedly compared the computer industry with the auto industry and stated, “If GM had kept up with technology like the computer industry has, we would all be driving $25.00 cars that got 1,000 miles to the gallon.”
In response to Bill’s comments, GeneralMotors
issued a press release stating:
If GM had developed technology like Microsoft, we would all be driving cars with the following characteristics:
1. For no reason whatsoever, your car would crash……..Twice a day.
2. Every time they repainted the lines in the road, you would have to buy a new car.
3. Occasionally your car would die on the freeway for no reason. You would have to pull to the side of the road, close all of the windows, shut off the car, restart it, and reopen the windows before you could continue. For some reason you would si Read more:Bill Gates

Can I Get You Something To Drink? 2007-06-13 15:53:10 …Coffee, or hot chocolate perhaps? Sorry about the mess. Things are still upside down here, I know. But in due time I will hopefully sort it all out. Welcome to my new blog!! I have finally upgraded to a proper domain, thank you for your help Rush
For now I will busy myself with all the little bits only I will see - I need to get proper stats working again, and I also need to find a theme. Any suggestions would be great. I want something unique and fresh, yet not overly expensive.
Hopefully I can get myself setup soon - take care, and please pop-in if you miss me Read more:Drink

Turkish Delight 2007-06-07 13:55:20 Tonight when I went shopping after work I found rosewater. For those who don’t know, its the flavouring of the pink Turkish
delight. Needless to say I couldn’t stop myself from buying the stuff - and two bottles of it! (Just in case Pick ‘n Pay runs out any time soon) So here I am Googling for Turkish Delight recipes. Trying first to find people who reviewed a recipe, and see that they say its good. On my way through all the “Turkish Delight” blogs and sites I found some pretty neat people - or blogs, and I would like to share them with you. Apparently the one lady (who mentions a Turkish Delight recipe on her blog) got A LOT of traffic when the Narnia movie first came out. I remember how I was also intrigued by the Turkish Delight in that movie. It was icky, and gooey, but still so tempting. I must admit I feel somewhat like that White Witch myself tonight; wearing a white jersey, and flippin’ freezzzing!!! Damn, this winter thing is jus

Someone Tagged Me? 2007-06-07 06:24:40 Hey guys and girls. Today I find myself in an odd spot. Tomorrow is my birthday (yay), but I just realize that the age thing has already started to affect me. About a week or so back I remember seeing that someone tagged me (it was on their blog if I recall correctly?), and now I have no clue who it was?
Please, if it was you, let me know - if there are others out there who also tagged me, just leave a comment - my memory is not a strong point of mine Read more:Tagged
Make-Up 4 Men!? 2007-06-06 04:26:44 “Don’t be surprised if very soon your toiletry kit contains not only shaving cream, deodorant and toothpaste, but concealer, oil-absorbing face powder and brow gel.
That’s because guys are relying on an increasing number of made-for-men products like these to put their best face forward.
“I think men are much more receptive to the whole grooming concept from start to finish. Makeup is sort of the final frontier,” says Wendy Lewis, a beauty consultant and author of The Beauty Battle: An Insider’s Guide to Wrinkle Rescue and Cosmetic Perfection from Head to Toe. “They’re certainly concerned about camouflaging imperfections. The idea of a little light dusting of powder is no longer an extreme measure.”
In Pictures: Makeup For… Men?
Experts say it’s only natural that men would turn to makeup to look their best. Grooming, after all, has never been more acceptable. Last year, $4.8 million was spent on male grooming products in the U.

Baby Language Expert: Priscilla Dunstan 2007-06-28 03:03:10
For millions of sleep-deprived mothers around the world, this woman’s findings could be a miracle! Priscilla Dunstan, a mom from Australia with a special gift, says she’s unlocked the secret language of babies.
When Priscilla was a toddler, her parents discovered she had a photographic memory for sound. At age 4, she could hear a Mozart concert on the piano and play it back note for note.
Priscilla says her gift has helped her hear a special “second language” beyond English, allowing her to detect moods and even diagnose illnesses! “Other people might hear a note but I sort of get the whole symphony,” Priscilla says. “So when someone’s speaking, I get all this information that other people might not pick up.”
That mysterious second language took on an astounding new meaning when Priscilla became a mother to her baby, Tom. “Because of my gift for sound, I was able to pick out certain patterns in his cries and then remember wha Read more:Expert
Starfruit For Vitamin C 2007-06-27 23:25:41 On this freezing cold day I am thinking back to when I was in Mauritius. Nice WARM memories.
Something which immediately came to mind was the star fruit. When I was young I heard about it, but not many shops (if at all) in South Africa stock this fruit. The first time I saw it in REAL LIFE was in Mauritius. That which I had was pretty sour, but apparently there are some nice sweet variants!?
A popular fruit of wealthy Europeans in the late 1700’s, Star Fruit or Carambola was introduced to America only 75 years ago. A native fruit of South-east Asia and India, Star Fruit became an established fruit in Hawaii by way of Chinese immigrant traders. Arriving in Florida, Star Fruit has since made the state the largest producer of all American-consumed Star Fruit. Named for the 5 pointed star shaped slices it yields, Star Fruit’s pale yellow, juicy flesh contains a few, small, flat seeds and a distinctly tropical flavour. The thin, edible, lime green skin ripens to a bright yel Read more:Vitamin
“Holding On For A Hero” 2007-06-27 06:51:40 For the international visitors’ interest, it snowed in Johannesburg this morning - for the first time since 1981. There are photo’s of it on the Highveld website, pop into their gallery if you’re interested.
In the news this morning they also said that a man had died of exposure. This troubles me deeply. Whenever I think about people dying of cold or hunger it makes me so sad I want to cry.
I found a beautiful, sad, and very true piece of writing on the Highveld site too…
Please see Highveld’s terms and conditions before using this content.
“Holding on for a hero…
I will not look at the news today. Not a glimpse, not a stolen glance over the shoulder - nothing.
I will avoid all things bad, drink two bottles of water, buy salad for lunch, and listen to the sounds of people going about their business. Today is a day for deep breaths, for taking stock, for sitting quietly reminding ourselves that winning hearts and minds is more important tha
What Cocaine Does To A Cornfield 2007-06-26 13:39:17 “A driver who was high on cocaine destroyed an entire cornfield in an attempt to escape from the police.
Four police cars were destroyed before the 35-year-old crashed into a ditch and was arrested, near the village of Dussen in the south of the Netherlands. ”

Transport In South Africa 2007-07-02 04:33:44 This is a warning to the people who don’t live in SouthAfrica
, but plan to travel here at some point or another. Please note, if you’re from a country where you can rely on public transport, this post is especially for you. You need to note that public transport is not safe - and shouldn’t be attempted unless you’re really brave. Rather consider renting a car from Avis, or any of those agents…
Whilst being in England I realized for the first time that there are people who don’t have a driver’s license. Adults who have never driven a car!! How strange? This is not a weird thing apparently - people don’t need to drive there - they just hop on a bus or a train, or phone a taxi.
In South Africa
its a bit different. Yes there are buses . And yes, there are taxi’s. But you need to note that when you use either of these it might be the last thing you ever do.
These are not taxi’s like you know them in the UK or the US.
Globalization For The Weekend 2007-07-06 09:32:08 I’m getting ready for the weekend, and really cannot wait until 5pm. It has been a long week for me, and the rest is going to do me a whole lot of good. Like I said, I’m going to play games. But I might watch a movie or two, plus I have to do some filing.
Hope you have a fabulous weekend! Check back with ya on Monday
Here’s something to start the weekend with…
Question: What is the truest definition of Globalization?
Answer: Princess Diana’s death.
Question: How come?
Answer: An English princess with an Egyptian boyfriend crashes in a French tunnel, driving a German car with a Dutch engine, driven by a Belgian who was drunk on Scottish whisky, (check the bottle before you correct me on the spelling) followed closely by Italian Paparazzi, on Japanese motorcycles; treated by an American doctor, using Brazilian medicines.
This was posted by an African, using Bill Gates’ - (an American)technology, and you’re probably reading th Read more:Weekend
Disaster Strikes Here 2007-07-05 14:57:29 My sidebar is a disaster I know. I’ve been trying to fix is half heartedly and kinda given up. Tomorrow I need to clean it up though - the new RSS button is quite nice, hey? I got it from Stii, but still need to get rid of the white bits. That was an experiment, and I only now realized, when I got home, that I left the original photoshop file at work. Pfff.
I’m going to get rid of all the community buttons - they irritate me. Any suggestions? Read more:Disaster

iBackup Online Storage 2007-07-05 13:45:32 You know I am always going on about backups. I cannot stress this enough. It is important to make backups. Even if its of things you think you will never use again.
I got myself a 250GB external hard drive a while ago, which works like a charm (If I remember to backup obviously).
But for those of you who do not have something like this, its now easier than ever. For $9.95 per month for 5GB you use IBackup’s Online Storage.
You can sign up for the free trial on their website just to make sure that it is what you want. Pretty cool, huh?
Missing Mario & Luigi 2007-07-04 13:22:17 I‘m not a gamer. You might know this already, but I’m not one for all these high quality pc or play station games. I’ve tried a couple, but they just can’t get me hooked?
What I do like, is Mario
Bros. Its amazing how those old games still have their addicting effect on me. Tetris - plain old MS-DOS tetris. I love that game. And I can still spend hours planning a house for the SIMS.
Playing with the characters isn’t always so much fun, but designing the house is sooo cool. I downloaded a Mario & Luigi
game, just not sure which version it is. If you want it, its free at Acid-Play.
I think I’m gonna get my old games out this weekend and PLAY. Read more:Missing
“eNaTiS > How Do I” Got Hacked?! 2007-07-04 09:10:49 The eNaTiS (Electronic National Traffic Information System) is a system of the Departmentof Transport, provided for and partially funded by the nine provinces, which individually owns the data of their respective users.
For the readers who are not from South Africa, this system is relatively new, and the security of it is DEFINITELY not up to scratch. Please note that to most South Africans this is a huge frustration as it affects all traffic offices around the country. The website on the other hand is a bit of a joke…

Simplicity vs. Ambitions 2007-07-04 05:24:08 Its cold, cloudy, and WINTER. Since last night I’ve been missing England a lot. I was there for almost a year during 2003. If I had a choice I’d go back now. Not just on a 2 year visa though - It’d have to be permanent. Its very disruptive to pack up and go there, only to come back again, and then try to find your feet.
What I liked about it so much? Everything. If I had a decent job this time round I’d definitely enjoy it more too, but the job wasn’t bad. I worked in a factory, and the money was OK. The hours sucked. 6am - 12pm, sometimes till 4pm - and over weekends 4am - 2pm.
Now I have a comfortable 8:30am - 5pm office job. Nice and cozy, plus I don’t work with people so much. However, in a factory you don’t always realize how clever people are. It doesn’t take much brains to chop cucumbers, as opposed to my current job, where everyone is expected to think for him / herself. Not that they do, which makes it so frustratin Read more:Simplicity

Onomatopoeia (Continued) 2007-07-10 15:47:29 This post is inspired by Pstonie, which in turn was inspired by another blog. Visit Pstonie to trace the trail!
Its good to learn new things, and that word up there is my part for today. I can’t pronounce it properly - or at least it doesn’t sound like a proper word when I say it. Maybe that’s the way it was intended. The meaning of it as on Wikipedia is:
Onomatopoeia (occasionally spelled onomatopœia) is a word or a grouping of words that imitates the sound it is describing, suggesting its source object, such as “bang,” “crash”, “click,” “buzz,” “pop,” “zing,” or “untz untz” or animal noises such as “moo”, “woof”, “oink”, “quack”, “baa”, or “meow”. The word is a synthesis of the greek words “onoma” (name) and “poio” (verb meaning “to create”) thus it essentially means &ldqu
