Blog Traffic Exchanges
2007-06-26 07:18:20
This is one of those subjects that needs to be addressed by giving it the correct attention. Blog traffic exchanges are tools that can be used to gain extreme amounts of traffic, right? These tools can get traffic to your website, but they’re not as efficient as they may seem. There are better ways to get traffic to your blog. The hardest part of starting a blog is getting those return visitors to your website. Return visitors are your most valuable asset. The first thing you must do is find the right visitors and find out what works best for your blog. How do you find those right visitors? One of the tactics you might use is to join some blog communities. You might also try to visit small to medium sized blogs that are similar to yours and provide comments, fostering discussion in their community. By doing this you could get the attention of other readers, not to mention the attention of the blog owner who just might take notice of a new readers blog. Blog traffic excha

SEO And Business Go Hand In Hand
2007-06-24 08:24:46
Have you invested time into search engine optimization (SEO )? One of the most important aspects of traffic generation on the web is how you optimize your pages for the search engines. Whether it’s learning it yourself or paying a pro, search engine optimization is very important to your traffic stats and can be even more important if you choose to monetize your site. I’m not saying that search engines own the web and that they should be your sole source of traffic, in fact I’ve been avoiding optimization other than for the term “business blogger” up to this point and focusing on content. When I say that SEO is important I’m not going to provide you with the names of people that I think are great SEO’s; that’s not the point of this post. The SEO business is highly competitive and there are plenty of great firms out there to choose from. Should you choose to go that route, my suggestion would be to do a search on “SEO” or &l

Increase Your RSS Feed Number
2007-06-21 10:02:47
RSS feeds are huge in the blogging world. RSS is an easy way for people to look at your blog and quickly size you up. Your feed reader numbers are considered a status symbol. These readers are your bread and butter, the ones that will take a quick look at your feed to see if they like what you have to say. If they like your post they might drop by, or even better, they blog about you. Lot’s of feed subscribers happen to be bloggers. Since we are busy people and need to digest information quickly, feed readers are our friends. Since RSS Feed s and XML are so important it only makes sense that you would make it easy on those that wish to subscribe. Before I implemented this change I had my RSS feed set to forward to my FeedBurner page. FeedBurner is a great tool and has worked well, and I will continue to use them, but I’m here to make it as easy as possible on my readers. If I can keep just one more reader by making it a little bit easier then I’ve achieved feed

Blog Communities - We Want You
2007-06-19 12:08:03
Well, it’s official. I finally got around to joining the “major” blog communities out there. When I say major I mean the major networks that I see the most bloggers using. The two that come to mind are MyBlogLog and BumpZee. Honestly I don’t have a real great feel for either of these networks as of yet so I can’t give you a flawless rundown but I will give you what I do have. I can tell you that even though BlogCatalog advertises themselves as a blog directory they seem to function as more of a community just like MyBlogLog and BumpZee. So far I seem to enjoy BlogCatalog and MyBlogLog for their ease of navigation and joining communities. This is a huge factor for me in making these sites more appealing. Bumpzee is bringing up the rear because I find it to be the toughest to navigate. Bumpzee just seems to lack that “it factor” to keep me coming back. Although Bumpzee may not be the best for me, it does have some good communities that y

Top Commentators Plugin
2007-06-17 06:54:09
I want to give something back to those that take the time to comment by giving you a little reward. I’ve decided to implement a useful little plugin that rewards my top commentators. The plugin is called “Show Top Commentators,” but of course. It’s a nifty little plugin that enables you to show the top commentators on the front page of your blog along with a “dofollow” link to their site. This will enable “Top Contributors” to get their links right on the front page of Business Blogger and it enables me to give a little link love to you. The plugin has a couple of options that I made use of. The first option was one that lets you limit the number of top commentators to list on your page. I’ve decided to put the limit at five commentators for the time being. For beginners, I had reservations about driving traffic away from the blog but on the other hand I want to help those that help me. I think a top five is fair for now, I

To Monetize, Or Not To Monetize
2007-06-15 08:14:39
There is one question that I get quite a bit from fans of this blog. They always want to know, “Why don’t you monetize your site, don’t you want to make money online?” The answer in short is yes, I do want to make money online. On the other hand I just don’t think that a blog is the best way to make money online. Blogging is very time consuming and the return on time invested would be horribly low starting out. This is why I have a huge directory project underway. The thing that I really need to focus on right now, instead of how to make money off of my blog, is how to create value for my readers. I really want to focus on quality content at this point more than anything. I think this is where so many bloggers make their turn for the worst. I don’t mind looking at an ad or two because we all know hosting costs money, but please refrain from the over monetizing early on. Most start-up bloggers take notice of the six figure bloggers and think

The Keyword Shuffle
2007-06-13 09:41:32
Just two days ago I was discussing the subtle changes I was getting ready to implement on my blog to try and rank better for a particular keyword term. Well it’s official, we have gotten much closer to the top of the serps. The tweaks have taken Business Blogger to the number three position in the Google serps for the keyword phrase “business blogger.” Without too much hassle and just a little tweaking on the meta tags and title tags we can go back and see exactly what happened. Business Blogger has gone all the way from page “nothing” to page one at the number three position. These are basic tweaks that bloggers should implement if they are concerned about ranking for a particular keyword or phrase. There are many more recipes in my book, but I don’t think I will be implementing them for this keyword phrase. Please keep in mind that this is a young blog and that older blogs with more weight can push their way through the rankings easier. I did

Keywords 101
2007-06-11 09:18:21
One of my goals for this blog was to rank for the search term Business Blogger. By accomplishing this I will at least be at the top of Google if someone were to remember my blog and go looking for me. Well I am happy to announce that I am on the first page of the serps for the search phrase business blogger. I have been fluctuating between three spots depending on how many pages Google decides to index for me that day. I’m just happy I’m not in the sandbox. I talked earlier about internal linking and how important it was to link to your posts internally. If you don’t currently make a habit of this you should start. I started out unranked then I found myself on page four of the serps. By using the internal linking strategy for my term I quickly went to page two. It’s not like “Business Blogger” is a highly sought after search term and that’s why it’s so easy to pull rank, but I’m just trying to point out some basic SEO princi

Blog Directory Submission Time
2007-06-08 07:10:56
I have to admit it’s time. I need to submit my blog to the major blog directories. Let’s see if this generates any traffic, if not at least I get a link out of it. I am going to start with the three main blog directories that I am able to submit to because of the age of my blog: BlogCatalog - It looks like they have some cool tools to increase exposure for your blog and their site too. Very nicely put together. Link love. EatonWeb - This looks like a nice directory. Link love. Technorati - Nicely put together as most of you already know. No link love. In my spare time [ha!] I will be using these tools to help increase viewership of my blog. I have already found some blogs I enjoy through these directories. See, they are already working. If you have not submitted to these directories, you need to get started!

I “Wish I Had” Started A Business
2007-06-07 07:21:01
The one thing I in life that I have never been is a “wish I had.” The “wish I had” is that person that everybody has met at some point in their life. It’s that guy that says “I wish that I had bought that stock when it was sitting at $50 a share, now it’s at $350. I could have been rich!” When it went to $100 the “wish I had” still didn’t buy, they just watched until it hit the $350 mark. This is the type of person that will always be dependent on everyone else, always owed something for free, a non-go-getter. The “wish I had” does not take the time to start a business blog. Everyone of us has potential to do something great in life no matter how small. The difference between greatness and being average is the amount of effort you put into a project or an idea. The people that succeed in life are always the one’s that took the risk to do so. Nothing in life is free, you have to work for it. Don

Do Good Bloggers Go To Heaven?
2007-06-29 11:30:25
All the bloggers out there know that blogging is not always an easy task, since you’re often on a tireless hunt for the next big post. One of the hardest parts about blogging is finding that perfect post. You know, the post that everyone loves to link to, the post that gets you mentioned on your favorite blogs. The information you provide free of charge is a culmination of days, weeks, months or even years of research on your favorite topics. You’re proud of the hard work and effort that you put into that post and you have every right to be. The satisfaction you get from doing your research and putting something down that people will enjoy is an absolute thrill for bloggers. This is what’s in it for us. For me it seems like this is a sign of the great bloggers, the truly passionate informers. Is it a true passion for a subject that leads you to do what you do? Do you enjoy helping people? Are all good bloggers true Philanthropists? After all this is what bl

Business Blog - Do You Really Need One?
2007-07-02 08:24:23
As an entrepreneur, you’re constantly mulling over new business ideas in your mind, making mental checks to see if the idea is marketable or not. There are plenty of ways to market a new business online. What’s your first thought when it comes to marketing a new business online? If you’re like most people your first thoughts are of the different techniques including social marketing, web directories, advertising and so on. These are all very important pieces to the puzzle, however the most vital piece of the puzzle you may be missing is a business blog. The great thing about having a business blog as a marketing tool is that blogs are seen as news sources and news sources can become authority sites. With a business blog you can leverage your position as a news source by discussing topics that are relative to your brand. Keep in mind that in order to truly leverage your business blog you must create quality content that can attract attention. Quality content wi

Blog Optimization Plugin
2007-07-05 07:07:53
If there is one thing that bloggers shouldn’t forget about when it comes to their blog, it’s SEO and blog optimization. Most bloggers don’t think that it’s really that big of a deal, especially when they’re first starting out. The problem with that train of thought is you’re not thinking long term strategy. You have to think about blog optimization now before you lose that valuable search engine traffic later. You need to have long term strategy with any goal in life, even blogging. You’re not in it just for the short term, or you wouldn’t be blogging at all. You want people to be able to find your blog now and in the future. When this business blog first started it got absolutely no traffic at all from the search engines. Now that I’ve got a few posts under my belt, I’ve started to notice the search engine traffic trickle in. Nothing glamorous by any means but traffic nonetheless. This just means that the search engi

Google To Buy Out Text-Link-Ads?
2007-07-09 09:14:57
From what I gather, the whole Google / Text-Link-Ads thing is just a big mess. What are the investors thinking about this whole ordeal. Why is Google attacking text-link-ads? The real concern here is the business model of text-link-ads and the long term validity of that business model. Sure the business model sounds like a great idea, you sell text links on tons of different web pages and take a percentage of the profits. What’s wrong with that? Nothing, until Google steps in and tells you you’re doing it all wrong. Google wants to make their search engine great, and the only way they can do this is by scouring the web and checking links to other web sites. For Example, if Wikipedia linked to this business blog from it’s main page, in Google’s eyes this blog can do no wrong. Site ranking has been passed on to other sites for quite a while under the trust factor. Google relies on you to link to relevant content from your blog and until now, Google has re

Did John Chow Kill Text Link Ads???
2007-07-07 09:06:40
Has everyone seen the commotion over what has happened to John Chow (JohnChow.com) and Text-Link-Ads.com? Since I used to read his business blog, I was going to do a post on John Chow and how he is going down the wrong path, but I decided against it. It was just going to be evil anyhow. Speaking of “evil”, John Chow can’t even rank for his own name on Google anymore. Google has knocked his block off, at least in their search results. It’s a good thing for John Chow that the majority of his traffic comes from sources other than Google. He’s always said, “don’t put all your eggs in the Google basket.” That’s never been more true for him than right now. John Chow will have to come to the realization that Google can play games too. For months John had been accepting reviews of his site, in return giving you a “link back from a PR 6 site,” a tactic that this business blog will not partake in. Oh, let’s not forg

WordPress 2.3 Is Live
2007-09-25 23:34:51
Well, if you didn’t have anything better to do today I guess you could hop on over to WordPress for the brand new WordPress 2.3. Taking the words strait out of their mouth, “this release includes native tagging support, plugin update notification, URL handling improvements, and much more.” Sounds good to me. The best feature I think is the new pending review feature. This feature is great in that it actually lets you submit a post for review by an editor. This means that running a large multi-editor blog using wordpress just got easier. They even added canonical URLs. Wow, they are really reaching out to the SEO audience here, although this will help anyone with their search engine optimization. For those of you that don’t know what this means, just try typing in businessblogger.net without the www and see where you go. It automatically redirects you to www.businessblogger.net so that this blog is seen as being on one domain by the search engines. Also t

First of all you can start by going over to blogrush and signing up for an account. This little widget you place on your blog works quite well, in fact it has already sent me hundreds of visitors. It’s pretty nice when you go check your stats after the weekend to see some extra activity at your blog. Blogrush uses a little widget to show your latest rss feeds on other related blogs. You have the option of choosing the best category that works with your blog. I chose business because it’s what I blog about, easy enough. Then they give you a little piece of code to place on your blog to show relevant feeds. Place the code on your blog and you’re up and running. Without much hassle you get free traffic to your blog. The way the widget works is that blogs get traffic from blo
