Two new versions of Windows Installer on the way 2007-06-26 00:25:00 Windows Installer
4.1 - This will be available with Windows Vista SP1 and Windows Server 2008. As of with the SDK this version will not add any new feature. By the way Windows Server 2008 is currently under beta and is expected to be released later this year. Windows Installer 4.5 - One of the main goals in this version is to improve the installation of multiple MSI packages thus enabling products to split into smaller MSI files. To achieve this APIs are add which acts a chainer to call and install multiple package operation. In that case there will be install and rollback actions across these multiple MSI files. What I understand is that the chanier itself will not be a part of MSI 4.5 reditributable instead will ask the tool vendors to support these new features in their product. The MSI 4.5 redistributables will be made available with the Windows XP SP2. This will include features and fixes from MSI 4.0 which is currently available on Windows Vista.

How to Change the Account Name on Your Blog? 2007-06-20 04:47:00 If you have been using your blog for a while with your current account and may decide to manage it with from another account. Unfortunately, there is no help in the blogger or option in the settings to do the same. So what do we do now? Well, we can change it but with little workaround. Let see how to do it. 1) Go to Settings - Permissions. 2) Click on 'ADD AUTHORS' and invite the second person by entering an email address for that person (which in this case is your second email address, to which you wish to move your blog). It’s good to use Google Account
in this case. 3) Next open the second person email and follow the link included with the invitation. 4) Once the invitee has accepted access to the blog, from a Google account, you (in your current account) can return to Permissions, and look next to the invitee name. Find and select the "Guest" link. This will change to "Admin", meaning that the invitee now has administrative authority. 5) Once you've granted adm Read more:Change
How I Killed my Phone Virus - Symantec The Guru 2007-06-19 09:11:00 It happens so that I get to see some good pictures in my friends mobile and ask him if he can send it to me through bluetooth and he did transfer some of them. Well that's all I did and the next day onwards, my mobile battery starts draining out even though its fully charged. One more surprise was that it tries to send MMS to some random numbers with some autogenerated text contents but luckily I didnt have MMS enabled, so all those messages were in my outbox and had to delete them. This started happening everyday. Totally confused I searched the web for virus information and found that its a virus called CommWarrior.Looking further I found the antivirus in the symantec website.Symantec
releases a beta version free for download to protect Symbian devices from mobile viruses. Looking at a integrated security solution that combines antivirus and firewall protection, Symantec Mobile Security comes at a much needed time with the increasing spread of the MMS-transmitted CommWarrior and Blu Read more:Killed

Windows Live Mail Beta - First Look 2007-06-07 06:05:00 Microsoft has released the first beta version of Windows
Live Mail.It can be freely downloaded and will replace Outlook Express in Windows XP and Windows Mail in Windows Vista. The application is in beta version and has number of bugs and missing features but still it looks very interesting and appealing. The new program brings in features from both of the previous Windows mail applications. I spent some time today playing with Windows Live
Mail and its quit interesting. It has a "feeds" feature as well as an option to add new blog entries into Windows Live Space from the WLM(Windows Live Mail
) . Oh!! by the way in order to install WLM you require Windows Installer 3.1 or later version in your system.Well overall the program looks good and runs well after some initial setup and tweaks, but it is to be expected with a initial beta version of any software and may not enjoy much but then you may want to wait to download Windows Live Mail.

Energy Saving Search Engine? 2007-06-06 02:31:00 I was carrying out a google search on energy conservation and found something intresting. There is a new search site called Blackle.com. The page is fully in black and grey and says it saves energy.Environmentalists over the world are working out ways to optimise energy conservation and combat global warming.Blackle has done its bit to save energy by launching Blackle.comBlackle saves energy because the screen is predominantly black. Image displayed is primarily a function of the user's color settings and desktop graphics, as well as the color and size of open application windows.Normally a given monitor requires more power to display a white (or light) screen than a black (or dark) screen. In one of the blog post titled 'Black Google Would Save 750 Megawatt-hours a Year' proposed the theory that a black version of the Google search engine would save a fair bit of energy due to the popularity of the search engine. Since then there has been skepticism about the significance of the ener Read more:Energy

is an AJAX development framework and a set of tools that enable developers to quickly and easily create simple web applications and mashups with Google services like Google Maps and Google Base. With the declarative XML tags, JavaScript, CSS, and HTML, applications can be build in less time and with less work. For advanced developers, the Editor allows to be more expressive by tapping into their JavaScript API. Microsoft Surface Computer 2007-05-31 07:16:00 A Surface computer is able to recognize physical objects from a paintbrush to a cell phone and allows hands-on, direct control of content such as photos, music and maps. Surface turns an ordinary tabletop into a dynamic surface that provides interaction with all forms of digital content through natural gestures, touch and physical objects. Microsoft
website gives examples of ordering a beverage during a meal with just the tap of a finger and quickly browsing through music and dragging favourite songs onto a personal play list by moving a finger across the screen. Build this into a bar and you’d get one-touch beer service although I’m not sure if they’ve found a way to work out when your beer glass is empty so that refilling becomes automatic, may be in upcoming versions.Microsoft Surface lives where people gather. It is surely a way of interacting with the Digital world. Surface computer have arrived.

Google Translate Adds Dictionary Tool 2007-06-26 23:32:00 Google translate added a new feature: Dictionary
. This is in addition with the already existing “translate text” box, but dictionary is little more optimized for single-word queries, and it also adds some related phrases to results. As of now translations are only available between English, German, Spanish, French, Korean and Italian but other languages are available under text translation. The translations are good but not always. I tried to translate Hosting from English to German and it gives the result as Ausrichtung which does not mean hosting rather it means Alignment. The dictionary also seems to have problems with American vs British English spelling. For instance, Google wasn’t able to translate “color” from English into German, outputting a simple “No translation was found.” After changing the spelling to the British “colour,” correct translations like “Färbung” or “Farbe” were offered. The exact opposite happens when you try to translate “c Read more:Google
