During a weekly rehabilitation session, 15 severely wounded servicemen with missing limbs and sever burns were heckled and jeered at by members of the public. One woman screamed at the soldiers telling them they had no right to be there. She became increasingly abusive, screaming that it was wrong for staff to rope off a lane exclusively for the injured personnel from the nearby Headley Court rehabilitation centre. The swimmer, thought to be in her 30s, is understood to have said: “I pay to come here and swim – you lot don’t.” The soldiers, who use the pool as part of a water therapy course, were quickly ordered out by their instructor to avoid further embarrassment. New Law Proects Families Of Wounded Military From Losing Jobs

They now will be entitled to up to six months of unpaid leave to care for the wounded soldier or veteran and can not be fired. The bill was attached to the legislation which expands child medical insurance that President Bush has vowed to vet. There are two important pieces of legislation coming to President Bush who complains Congress isn’t doing anything — one protecting kin of wounded soldiers and one to ensure children are protected against illness. Chances are highly likely he will veto them.

      Bayside - The Walking Wounded
Many people (perhaps) know of the New York band Bayside due to the tragic van crash that lead to the death of their drummer John "Beatz" Holohan in 2005 and the Acoustic EP that followed. The band hasn't wallowed in self-pity though as the truth of the matter is that Bayside brilliantly blends the sounds of catchy pop-rock with the fury of metal-influenced emo-core on their latest album The Walking Wounded. I'd heard the band in the past, but this album seems like a big step forward. The Walking Wounded starts off strong and remains remarkably consistent throughout with singer/guitarist Anthony Raneri's slightly lazy vocal affectation spitting out melody after catchy melody. And even though the album is filled with huge guitar riffs and a big-budget production sheen that remind me of more of the nu-pop-punk of bands like MCR and PIATD!, lyrically and stylistically it is obvious that the band owes more to desperate sounds of The Smoking Popes and Alkaline Trio. Bayside has not r

Treatment for War Wounded GIs a Struggle
There have been two major differences between the war in Iraq and any other military action before.1)     A higher number of wounded are in fact surviving. 2)     The IED (improvised explosive device) is the weapon of choice for our enemy. What these two things added together mean is that we have some serious long term health care problems for our souldiers and veterans that has caught the military totally by surprise. A very small percentage of the injured soldiers are shot. This is a drastic change from previous military operations. And one particular effect of the IED is brain shock and injury. On the outside a soldier can look physically fine but be foggy mentally or worse. Many of these brain injuries are not even being caught until much later. Post traumatic delayed stress syndrome wasn’t even accepted as a real injury for many years and it was a huge problem with soldiers after Desert Storm. With the advent of IED’s it is getting exponentially worse. Costs for long term

New book raises funds for America’s wounded warriors
“Throughout American history, ordinary citizens have been called to do the extraordinary, and serve a cause greater than their own self-interest. It is important to demonstrate the pride we have for those good men and women serving our nation everyday at great personal cost and that pride is evident here, in Faces of Freedom.” — U.S. Senator John McCain When I was invited to write an essay for the book Faces of Freedom, I knew it wouldn’t be an easy assignment. I would write about an American soldier who gave his life for our country. We hear the statistics on fallen soldiers every day. But we become aware of the depth of the sacrifice when we learn about the individual. The assignment would be extra-challenging, because the soldier’s wife lives in Missouri. Talking about grief by telephone isn’t ideal. After talking with Justina Fuga about her husband, Sgt. Michael T. Fuga, I realized the story wasn’t exclusively about grief. My story would celebrate the life

Noam Chomsky: A Predator Becomes More Dangerous When Wounded
I am by no means saying that I agree whole heartedly with Noam Chomsky. I think he's a socialist/communist of the worst sort. But he does hit upon a couple of interesting points in this opinion piece. And keep in mind that it is totally an opinion piece and that he is providing no proof for anything he is saying. ~RJH Truthout Article link A Predator Becomes More Dangerous When WoundedBy Noam ChomskyThe Guardian UKFriday 09 March 2007Washington's escalation of threats against Iran is driven by a determination to secure control of the region's energy resources.    In the energy-rich Middle East, only two countries have failed to subordinate themselves to Washington's basic demands: Iran and Syria. Accordingly both are enemies, Iran by far the more important. As was the norm during the cold war, resort to violence is regularly justified as a reaction to the malign influence of the main enemy, often on the flimsiest of pretexts. Unsurprisingly, as Bush sends more troops to Iraq, ta
