Changing the World One Diaper at a Time
On the way home from school today, I popped in a Beatles CD and started singing along. During "She Loves You" I realized that, in my mind, I was hearing my mom's smooth alto singing harmony along with John, Paul, George, and Ringo. I grew up knowing that a love of the Beatles was one of the foundations of who my mother was, which probably explains why I love them so much. She was born in 1953 (sorry Mom, just outed your age) so when they came over to America in 1964, she was ten years old and ripe for the mania they inspired. When they appeared on the Ed Sullivan show, she desperately wanted to watch them; however, her father didn't like their music and had outlawed it in the house. But he was dying from lung cancer and so took pity on his youngest daughter and gave her permission to watch

Finished - Change the world one wall at a time
If you missed it here’s day 1 and day 2 of the wall painting, and below the finished product… speaks for itself… Big thanks to Ruth Abraham - The Scotish Muralist, this is magic and lights up the wall in my house that doesn’t look out to the ocean. A few shots from day 3 and [...]

Day 2 - Change the world one wall at a time
Day 2 and 3 and my favorite - the waves - start coming in. This is the only part of the painting that wasn’t exactly the same as the original photo, as the surf at our place at Ohope isn’t very big, so Ruth turned to a surf mag and put in the dream waves… Some [...]

Changing the world one wall at at a time - day 1
I’ve been very lucky in the last couple of weeks a new friend over from Scotland painted me a picture of one of my favorite views, the view out to the surf from our family beach house. The thing that made me extra lucky, is that she made it 8 foot long and 4 foot [...]

Feeding The World One Word At A Time
Philanthropic wordsmiths, take note! This is cool. John Breen, a computer programmer from Indiana who operates the Poverty.com website, has now also developed an online game that teaches vocabulary … and helps to fight world hunger at the same time. It’s fun, it’s free, and it feeds. Not to mention that you’ll also pick up a [...]

Pam Anderson Saving the World One Turkey at a Time.
Let’s forget for a moment what a trainwreck Pamela Anderson has been lately and focus on her work with PETA. Pammy will be serving vegetarian dishes all night on Thanksgiving at an unnamed homeless centre in Las Vegas. PETA spokesman Michael McGraw says, “We want to keep the venue a secret because it’s really just for Pam and those she’s serving. It’s not for fans and autograph seekers. “The dinner itself will be a feast - Gardein’s Veggie Stuffed Turkey Roast With Wild Rice and Cranberries. It’s a delicious faux turkey. Pam, who has been vegetarian since she was a teenager, is thrilled to serve up the health benefits of a meatless diet.” Anderson adds, “The holiday season can be especially hard for those who find themselves homeless, and it’s murder on turkeys. With so many healthy and delicious options nowadays, it’s easy to have a holiday meal that gives even turkeys something to be thankful for.” Kudos

Saving the world one blog post at a time
Ok so I thought for my “save the environment” post I’d give out some easy tips on what you can do at home and at work to play you’re part in conserving energy and the environment as a whole. With all the load shedding we’re experiencing here in South Africa the need to conserve electrical energy has become apparent (to say the very least). I think that just being aware of the problem can go a long way to affect change. You really don’t need every light in the house blazing at once or your TV, radio and computer on at the same time do you? They also say turning your geyser off in the morning and back on at night can save loads of energy – you’d probably save quite a bit of cash too (just don’t forget to turn it back on otherwise you may get a bit of a shocking wakeup call). On a side note take heed of the little save electricity messages that come on TV in the evenings – you know the one that says turn off all essential applia

Tree-Nation, saving the world one tree at a time
Saving the trees is kind of important I am told. Hell, even Al Gore has gotten involved in the cause so it must be something to concern ourselves with. If you are really and truly one of those jeeks/geeks who has not seen the sun in approximately three years, 15 days and an hour, then Tree-Nation is for you. for a nominal price you can purchase a tree to plant in a desert area that suffers
