World Bank President Paul Wolfowitz says that he is going to stay on the job and will continue to carry out the World Bank’s mission to reduce the world’s poverty. Wolfowitz said at a news conference that “the bank has important work to do and I will continue to do it.”
However, there has been pressure On the World Bank President to resign his position over his involvement in the pay increase that was given to his girlfriend. The committee has said this issue is “of great concern to us all” and has had the bank’s board of directors look into the matter.
The committee said, “We have to ensure that the bank can effectively carry out its mandate and maintain its credibility and reputation as well as the motivation of its staff.”
