So how many times have you read/heard about the polygamist sect down in Texas over the past couple of days? Too many?
I’m still scratching my head and wondering how, in this century, that kind of brainwashing is still around/accepted. This upsets and sickens me to no end. That weak-minded men feel the [...]
Every year, Doug and I take a mini-vacation away from the kids and have their two grandmas watch them at our house. And these 2 days quickly set our routines upside down. Here are thirteen things that got out of whack.House - The grandmas are not quite as strict about having the kids clean up their toys. When we got back I found all sorts of things under the aquarium table: poker chips, fish from a fishing game, plastic easter egg halves, spoons, monkeys from monkeys in a barrel, and ice from Don't Break the Ice, too name a few. When I asked Dova what all that stuff was doing there, she said "that's my garbage can." I instantly hit the roof and all relaxation gained from vacation disappeared.Dova - Our daughter was replaced by a sweet girl that showers you with kisses instead of being

The US subprime crisis is putting the brakes on Britain's commercial property boom, driving down real estate values and putting banks in jeopardy.Market fundamentals have indeed changed quite dramatically for commercial property. One indicator is the so-called "average prime yield," which has risen during the past year -- a sign of cooling demand and weakening returns on property investments. Data from realtor CB Richard Ellis show the underlying price of real estate assets in Britain has declined relative to rents, causing the yield to rise. It climbed 50 basis points, to 5.7 percent, in the fourth quarter of 2007 -- some 90 points higher than during the same period in 2006.
I went into Gap today. I think Gap is rubbish and overpriced. But I had a promotional thingy given to me that allowed me get 30% off of anything in the store, so I decided to look in there. The shop is shit. They should call it 'dry black, grey, scarves and gloves' - because that is all they sell in that shop. If I ever have to attend a funeral, I know I can buy my shit in Gap. Though any potential items I pick up will probably have a grey stripe running through it. They can have every actor, singer and public figure brood in black and white portrait photos all they like. Gap clothes are just shit.Everything in Gap looks the same and has no shape. All of their jumpers fit like they've been washed, stretched and then tumble dried on the highest heat setting 10 times in a row. I bought one top from Gap about 5 years ago. To this day I have no clue why, because the top was nasty, had no shape to it and didn't suit me. Regardless, bought it anyway. After 1 wash (a 30 degree wash at tha
For some reason I have been noticing some lag time on my blog. Not too sure if database access or Wordpress itself. So what I did to make sure it was not just me I decided to test it on another server. I went to Pingdom.com to see what my stats look like.
I did not like what I saw, my website loads at 4.5 seconds. Is that optimal? I did not think it was, I want my blog to load right away. I am a web designer, I wanted it to load right away!! Pingdom showed my website loads at 4.5 seconds, I guess that is fine. But stats say if a user does not find what they want in 20 seconds, they divert away. I did not want to give any user a 5 second delay because of my load time.
Well here is my result from Pingdom 4.5 seconds! I rotated the image to get a better view.
Load Time may differ, this image is unique to the time of running
I decided to look at other new designs and compare their speed with mine. First Darren from Problogger was the first to start this web design upgrade craze. I mean t
As the St. Petersburg Times reported in this story this morning, Florida Metropolitan University and the state Attorney General's Office have reached a settlement agreement, and it touches on an issue some FMU students have been complaining about for years. But does the agreement give more weight to their claims about deceptive practices, or deflate them? Read the settlement here and decide for yourself. For some background, read this Wall Street Journal story here.
If there are any current or former FMU students out there in the wide, wide world of Gradebook fanatics, what do you think: Is there a problem with credit transfer? Is there a problem with full disclosure? And what do you think of FMU's decision yesterday to change its name to Everest University? Does it have anything to do with all the legal wrangling?

This week’s creative whack is….card 57 Have something at stake.
A frozen-fish processor had trouble selling a new line of frozen fish because it tasted "flat". The company tried everything to keep the fish fresh including holding them in tanks until just before processing but to no avail. Then someone suggested: "Put a predator in there with them, that should keep them fresh. This idea worked like a charm. The fish kept moving and regained their vitality.
Moral: have something at stake, survival, self-esteem, money, reputation so that you’ll be motivated to make your idea successful. What do you have at stake?

So last week I started the Creative Whack of the week, every Monday I’ll be doing this. For today the whack is card number….
43 Flex your risk muscle. Bull’s-eye every time? If so, you’re standing too close to the target. As comedian Woody Allen puts it, "If you’re not failing every now and again, it’s a sign you’re not doing anything very innovative." Everyone has a "risk muscle." You keep it in shape by trying new things. If you don’t, it atrophies and you’re no linger able to take chances. How can you exercise your risk muscle?
Innovators take risks. Innovators accept failure. Innovation requires that you try a lot of different things and keep what works. Mistakes and false starts are part of the process of making ideas happen. If we hope to innovate, we must factor them in the equation. We must continue executing ideas and move past our failures. But how? You must be willing to:
- Try ideas that fail to find
Every once in awhile all of us need that fresh view to give us that insight that we’re looking for. Roger Von Oech’s Creative Whack Pack is a collection of 64 cards that contain strategies, some are techniques to generate ideas, some highlight places to look for ideas, some lend you some decision making advice and some give you the "kick" you need to get your ideas into action.
I’ll be going through the Whack Pack every Monday of every week so that all of us can get the week started. I’ll be pulling a card at random and writing about it here. Since Monday already went by, I’ll start with one today. 1…2…3…I got card no. 20.
20. ASK WHAT IF?
Put some magic in your thinking by asking "what if?" questions. What if animals became more intelligent than people? What is highway blacktop came in "bluetop" or "redtop" depending on the speed limit? What if men also had babies? What if cars could transform
