In a recent Pew poll, only a third of the U.S. public views foreign intervention to stop genocide as a foreign policy priority. And only 25% thinks the promotion of human rights is an important goal. These numbers are down compared to a previous poll and are very discouraging.

Whew!! I’m tired! We spent the day at the zoo. Lions and tigers, sadly no bears yet, but, “Oh my!!” we saw a lot of God’s creatures today. What a blessing.
Eight years ago I was pondering what to pack in my bag to take to the hospital. Eight years ago I had no idea of all the joys and challenges that lay ahead of me all bundled into the baby I was carrying then.
This week Boo will turn 8
by Tom HammondIn a speech to the Israeli Knesset, President Bush said that anyone who talked to our adversary, Iran , would be like those who appeased Hitler’s Nazi Germany in the 1930s. His spokesmen explained that the president wasn’t speaking specifically about Barak Obama, but American leaders in general.Using that standard, Republican president Richard Nixon was a weak-kneed appeaser for
If you're not interested in learning a little about what has been going on in my life lately, then skip this post. Just a warning. I don't want anyone to waste a few minutes reading this thinking they are getting something else. I spent the last five years of my life doing the following so I could get to where I am today: going to community college without a direction, trying to find a direction, and ultimately deciding I'm good at writing and realizing I should go in that direction; wrecking my first car and then losing my job when someone stole money from the safe and, needing a scapegoat, they decided "hey, fire the night manager" only to have it come out later that it was the general manager who was actually stealing money, and had been for months; shortly after losing my job, being diagnosed with cancer, having to drop out of community college with Fs in all my classes, after which I spent six months having surgeries and poison injected into my blood s
There was an island wide Public Warning System Exercise today. So did you turn on the radio when you heard the "Important Message" signal at 1205hrs?
If you didn't, then you should think about this: when a real threat comes, it's not going to tell you it's not just an exercise or a once a month affair like pms.
Now let me play you the different signals:
"Alarm" Signal. This is sounded when
The 2007 Pew Global Attitudes survey, released July 24, reports a substantial decrease in Muslim support of suicide bombings and Osama bin Laden."The marked decline in the acceptance of suicide bombing is one of several findings that suggest a possible broader rejection of extremist tactics among many in the Muslim world," said the report, according to a July 24 Reuters article. The numbers are remarkable. Support for bombings and terror tactics has dropped in seven of eight countries where data were available, according to AP.In Lebanon, Muslims who believe suicide bombings are justified some or all of the time plummeted from 79 percent in 2002 to 34 percent. In Pakistan, the percentage dropped from 41 percent in 2004 to 9 percent. Among Jordanian Muslims, 56 percent had confidence in Osama bin Laden as a world leader in 2003; the number has dropped to 20 percent. Incredibly, none of the major television networks mentioned this survey during the July 24 evening newscasts. So why isn
We all know that former Bears Tank Johnson got released recently on a “driving while impaired” charge in Arizona. We also know that Johnson served jail time on weapon charges predating the Arizona incident. But as Paul Harvey of radio fame succintly put it, there’s “the rest of the story”.
Johnson said a while back that “I will move on to look at another opportunity with another NFL team and make the most of the opportunity when it comes.” While that’s all well and good, it appears that none of the other teams in the National Football League want to take a chance on Johnson. And in my opinion, with good reason. Consider this - if the Bears had waived Johnson wrongly, then some team would’ve considered him. Just the fact that no team has expressed any interest in him infers that Johnson had some lack of respect of the Bears’ coaches and his refusal to follow team rules and regulations.
As of right now, Jo
Once upon a time, not all that long ago, I was informed that the only way to get rid of the No Child Left Behind Act was to vote Democrat. The comment confused me. I realize that this is President Bush's signature law, but it is really only a continuation of President Clinton's School-to-Work Act. Now we do have a new house and senate. And they are under Democratic control. So what do we
