A visit to the Chelsea Physic Garden
Staying in Chelsea, after my visit to Green & Stone, I went to see the Chelsea Physic Garden which lies in between the River Thames and the Chelsea Embankment and Royal Hospital Road. It's a real haven of peace as well as being a wonderful garden for artists interested in botanical art. The Chelsea Physic Garden was founded by the Society of Apothecaries in 1673 in order to promote the study of

My Trip to Germany redux: Pt. XXVI - A visit with Konrad Salwey (many pics!)
This is a recap of my trip on August 10, 2007. Konrad Salwey and his father Wolfe live in Oberrotweil in one of the more southernly sections of Baden. It is a beautiful town and area and their vineyards are definetly in an area where there is not much around. I was really taken by the area and the wines. So relaxing and in August extremely green and lush are the vineyards I can see myself later in life retiring to a small village in Baden. I just love it. This was a long visit as we started off with a small tour of the distillery, as Weingut Salwey also distills tons of spirits along with with their numerous bottlings of wine. Konrad was also building a new winery which we saw and he just recently bought a rock quarry, which we also saw. Well onto the wines. This was my first time tasting

      The Band's Visit
The Band's Visit is a quiet little slice-of-life movie. Simply put, an Egyptian police band arrives in Israel for a concert, and gets lost. Not much happens in the movie, and the characters are stoic to the point of distraction. That said, this is a well-filmed movie with deep themes and terrific acting. I'm sure that there are layers of nuance that Americans miss in this film, because of the history between Israel and Egypt. The film is in English, Israeli, and Arabic, with English subtitles. This works very well, I like having subtitles, even when the film is in English, when the accents are sometimes thick. The Clyde theatre presentation was less than perfect, again. I think I'll have to speak to the management, again. Anyway, The Band's Visit is a nice art film, definitel

I received an email recently from Arbor Homes about a broker’s open house for one of its’ developments, Arbor Pass.To entice Realtors to visit, Arbor apparently had a drawing for a $500 Nordstrom gift card.Smart move. Most buyers tend to use buyers’ agents and this is a slower market. So it would make sense to target the group that could bring homebuyers. Who knows how well the gift card drew, but marketing matters in every sense.

'May Day was never the same after Allen Ginsberg's 1965 visit to Prague'
When poetry was king   By Darrell Jónsson For The Prague Post7 May, 2008   May Day may have been relatively quiet in Prague this year, but during the Cold War it was a political flash point. In 1947, the U.S. Congress decreed May 1 Loyalty Day, hoping to stave off its growing international communist overtones. This did nothing to stop the celebration of the Marxist revolution in communist countries, where over the next couple of decades the date threatened to become as big as Christmas.     This set the stage for one of the most memorable May Days ever in Prague. In 1965, when American beatnik poet Allen Ginsberg was crowned King of May and paraded through the streets, it was clear to the Czechoslovak secret police that the celebration had drifted way off-m
