One of the most important aspects of choosing a domain registration is that it should be non-infringing. This is not an easy task since most unique names have already been registered. The number of useful domain names from the marketing point of view have become extremely limited. Several companies now register variations of their trademark names as a preventive measure against infringement.

By: Brian ScottThe terms plagiarism and copyright violation are often used interchangeably. Although that may work well for most dinner table conversations, its actually incredibly incorrect. Not all acts of plagiarism are copyright violations and the two concepts are actually quite distinct.Copyright violation refers to the use of protected material without the appropriately expressed consent of the owner. If you take a poem I have written and to which I hold copyright and then place it on your website, you are violating my copyright. You are breaking the law.Are you plagiarizing? Maybe. If you indicate that I am the author (attribution) you arent really plagiarizing. You have certainly stolen my poem and you are in violation of copyright law, but you arent passing it off as your own.Plagiarism refers to stealing the work or ideas of another person for your own use without properly attributing the source. Being a plagiarist can get you in trouble in academic and professional settings,
Sony Pictures, owners of Columbia/Tristar pictures and the back catalog that comes with it, filed a lawsuit against Nintendo Entertainment in Tokyo for copyright infringement and trademark violations. The suit alleges that the Nintendo game Luigis Mansion is clearly based in part or wholly on elements of the Ghostbusters film franchise owned by Sony Pictures, and is in violation of international copyright and trademark for using elements from same without permission from Sony or its subsidiary Columbia/Tristar.
Interestingly, Sony isnt seeking any financial damages for Nintendos alleged violations. Instead they are asking that Nintendo add a Sony Blu-ray disc player to the Nintendo Wii gaming console and package a new Blu-ray edition of Ghostbusters I and II with every new Wii that is sold around the world to recoup the loss of sales in the GB franchise that were allegedly the result of Luigi's Mansion in the last generation of consoles.

Should someone go to jail for pirating software? Is translating a book and distributing it something sufficient to deprive you of your liberty? Does protecting someone’s potential livelihood outweigh the rights of freedom? Does the current justice model support punishments that fit the crime?
Background
After reviewing this topic from the perspective of the "victims", there seem to be many reasons in favor of locking up people who intentionally violate people’s copyright and get caught. Many large software and digital rights owners see every copyright violation as money being taken directly from their bottom line. They consider that if there were no copyright violations then they would have a much larger customer base who would purchase their products.
Using this logic, the more an individual is responsible for depriving them of income, the more they should be held accountable for those actions. Considering that some individual pieces

The St Charles Republican reports:St. Charles, IL - More than a week after the Kane County state’s attorney’s office sanctioned the St. Charles Community Unit School District 303 board, residents and board members, past and present, are having mixed reactions.“I think to most people it’s pretty simple, a lot of (people) really feel (the board) let this community down and they should no longer be on the board,” parent Jenny Brooks said. “They’ve lost the trust in this community and they shouldn’t be there.”On June 26, State’s Attorney John Barsanti ended a month-long investigation into allegations the board violated the Open Meetings Act when it approved an amendment to Superintendent Barbara Erwin’s contract by a 6-1 vote in closed session in 2005.“The board’s action on April 11, 2005, violated not only the provisions of the act, but also the spirit of the act,” Barsanti said in a statement.Since then, online message boards and e-mail inboxes of board member

CHARLES SCHOOL BOARD VIOLATED OPEN MEETINGS ACTJune 26, 2007After an investigation, the Kane County State’s Attorney has determined that members of the Board of Education of St. Charles School District 303 violated the Illinois Open Meetings Act when they voted April 11, 2005, in closed session to extend the contract of the superintendent. The closed session was part of the Board’s regularly scheduled meeting. After careful consideration of the facts, including the Board’s recent ratification in open session of the contract extension, the
The St. Charles school board has agreed to release to the public and media a tape recording of a 2005 closed session meeting that officials say proves the board willfully broke the law.Acting on a request from the Kane County state’s attorney, the board also is apologizing to the public and pledging to never violate the Open Meetings Act again. In addition, it must undergo a training workshop this year about the law governing open public meetings. This from the Daily Herald.
I first wrote about this story here. I had a follow up post here.
Hilary Clinton is being sued for Campaign law finance violations. Isn’t it funny how we don’t hear much about this? She is arguing to have video tapes of her committing these violations thrown out of court.
A video tape shows New York Sen. Hillary Clinton committing felonies and should be admitted as new evidence in a California civil case, a forthcoming legal brief to be filed by Friday argues.
The tape shows Clinton - currently the leading Democratic presidential contender - speaking in 2000 with Peter Paul, a Hollywood mogul, and comic book icon Stan Lee about a massive fundraising event for her 2000 Senate race. Paul spent about $2 million of his own money to produce the event. The legal contribution limit to a candidate then was $2,000.
I’m sure it was just an oversight, he probably just accidentally added a few zeros by mistake. What’s a couple million between friends? (more…)

‘It’s time to come clean’ in St. Charles In a stunning development, a former School Board President in St Charles told the Daily Herald that a tape recording exists which shows the St. Charles school board knew it was breaking the law two years ago when it silently extended Superintendent Barbara Erwin’s contract behind closed doors. The Daily Herald reports:Despite the current board having heard the recording last week, however, members have yet to turn it over to the state’s attorney’s office, which is investigating a possible Open Meetings Act violation in 2005, Karla Ray said. Ray, who was not on the board for the meeting in question, said she came forward with the information because she’s fed up with rampant secrecy on the board and “it’s time to come clean.” The existence of direct evidence of a willful violation of the Open Meetings Act has the potential to raise the stakes for board members who were involved - and has left present board members looking t

Thank God this man has a ‘D’ after his name, if it were an ‘R’ we would have heard calls for his resignation. There would be no waiting for a hearing to see if there was any wrongdoing. And knowing the way Republicans seem to react to controversy he would have stepped down.
Because he is a Democrat, reaction was different:
House Democrats rejected a Republican bid Tuesday to reprimand Rep. John Murtha, a senior lawmaker accused of threatening legislative reprisals against a GOP member who had crossed him.
This has been swept under the rug with no ripples in the ocean of the main stream media.
Whatever happened to the Democrats promise to run the most ethical congress in history?
John Murtha may have violated house rules. That is the accusation levied by Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Mich.)
Now Nancy Pelosi is defending him.
Pelosi, D-Calif., said she had “no idea what actually happened” during a noisy exchange in the House chamber last week between Reps. John P. Murtha, D-Pa., and Mike Rogers, R-Mich.
No idea what happened, yet she defends him? The evil Republicans must be at fault again.
“I wasn’t there” for the confrontation, Pelosi said. “I do know that the Republicans caused quite a stir that was unjustified on the floor of the House, and I’m sure things were said on both sides.”
She added, “I don’t know that there was going to be a resolution. There was rumor that that might be the form it would take, but we’ll deal with it if that’s what comes forward. But I think Mr. Murtha’s reputation for bipartisanship will hold him in good stead.”

Murtha shouted at and chastised Rogers on the House floor Thursday for offering a motion last week to challenge $23 million Murtha requested in an intelligence bill.Murtha had requested the money to prevent the administration from shuttering the National Drug Intelligence Center in Johnstown, Pa., which is part of Murtha’s district.
“I hope you don’t have any earmarks in the defense appropriations bills because they are gone, and you will not get any earmarks now and forever,” Murtha told Rogers, according to the draft transcript given to The Politico.
“This is not the way we do things here — and is that supposed to make me afraid of you?” Rogers replied.
“That’s the way I do it,” Murtha said.
This doesn’t exactly sound like the bi-partisanship we were promised in November. Not only that but it appears as though Murtha has violated house rules.
If it took place as alleged, Murtha’s tirade could violate House rules, which forbid members to block earmarks ba

While the liberal U.S. media constantly reports the violations of human rights of the terrorists at Guantanamo, they are silent about the violations of human rights on the case of Posada Carriles.
It is very sad for the people who believe in the precepts on which this republic was founded, that there are shameful violations of human rights by the United States on our own land. The case of Luis Posada Carriles is a prime example.
Posada Carriles is a 79-year-old man with cancer and heart problems. He is a broken man who has been languishing in solitary confinement at the Otero County Jail in New Mexico since January 2007. His elderly wife and daughter live in Miami.

Towards the end of this week another issue popped up
