I was watching a Google Tech Talk on Dependency Injection. Sixteen minutes in the speaker gave an interesting example of the Law of Demeter: If buying item for $25 in store, do you hand clerk $25 or give clerk your wallet and have him/her retrieve the $25.
This got me thinking about why we so frequently [...]

But also do they have the right to intervene? The simple answer begins with utilities. Many communities, cities and counties acr [...]
Long Beach Police will ticket you for not wearing a seat belt

about whether it violates our constitutional rights to force us to

COX Verizon
Much to the surprise of VoIP world, court (jury) has sided with COX and ruled that COX does not violate Verizon patents that I feel should not have been awarded in the first place. Verizon is in a suing spree targeting VoIP providers. I am wondering why these patents have not been...

Image via WikipediaLong-time readers will undoubtedly remember the plight of Spc. Jeremy Hall, the atheist soldier who filed suit against the Department of Defense and various military personnel for systematic violations of his religious freedom. Now another brave atheist soldier from the same base in Fort Riley, KS, is suing Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and making eerily similar allegations.

If you believe a headline from yesterday's Cleveland Plain Dealer, 20% of employers violate the FMLA. Or, at least that is what a recent study conducted by the Families and Work Institute concluded:
"There are so many reasons you could imagine an employer not complying," said Kate Kahan, director of work and family programs for the National Partnership for Women and Families. "The bottom line is

Since the introduction of the reality show The Pick up Artist, it seems that more men are dedicating themselves to becoming Pick Up Artist than ever before. This particular reality show has thrust the PUA community into the forefront of pop culture and dictated a New Golden Rule for Aspiring Pick Up Artist. Ignoring this rule can put an end to any routine from the start.Just a few years ago, the Pick Up community truly was a secret society. Then, VH1 turned things into a reality show. Many newbies became so excited to try what they had seen on television that they didn't obey the New Golden Rule for Aspiring Pick Up Artist: Be original. This sounds like a no brainer, but it is amazing how many stories I hear of newbies getting busted when trying to use openers they have heard on television. The problem is that women watch the show too.The good news is that women have mostly watched the show for entertainment, just like they would any other reality show. Women are not engaged in trying

The European Parliament voted for a resolution against the "illegal" practice, widespread in several of the country's autonomous regions but in particular the notorious LRAU and its replacement LUV in Valencia. The "shameful" legislation allows people's legally owned property to be snatched by developers, with victims being forced to pay towards unwanted infrastructure of new urbanisations.
The U S Supreme Court held in Tennessee Secondary School Athletic Association v. Brentwood Academy that the TSSAA's attempt to enforce its no-recruiting rule did not violate Brentwood Academy's First Amendment rights. The TSSAA fined the school and suspended it for four years after a Brentwood football coach sent a letter inviting 12 eighth-graders to spring training. The students had already signed agreements to attend the school in the fall. In 2001, the Supreme Court decided the TSSAA was a state actor and could be be sued for alleged First Amendment violations. On remand, the Sixth Circuit ruled on the merits in favor of the school. The Supreme Court reversed this decision Thursday, holding that "an athletic league's interest in enforcing its rules sometimes warrant curtailing the speech of its voluntary participants." The Court also determined that the TSSAA held a fair hearing in the case and did not violate Brentwood's due process rights. Read the Court's opinion per Justic
I spent 2 years stationed at a British Royal Air Force base about an hour north of London when I was in the USAF. When people think of the British all too often they think of Benny Hill, Mr. Bean or Monty Python. I would say think of Maggie Thatcher or Winston Churchill. Many people forget that the British ruled most of the world just a couple of hundred years ago. There is still some serious steel in the soul of Britain and Iran would be well served to remember that. The British almost single-handedly held back the Nazis until America finally got into WWII. The British have a national heritage that goes back over 2000 years. I walked on roads and bridges built by the Romans when I was stationed there. In some areas such as medicine Britain is rather socialist but let me share a couple of observations that I made while there. Signs on private property say "No Trespassing. Violators will be shot" and they damned well mean it. In stores they don't warn "shoplifters&quo
