Over the last week some news has been revealed about several artists in the scene. Kano's situation with 679recordings seems to be a touch confusing with rumours and gossip circulating like usual. However it seems that 679recordings has been sold possibly to Warner and in that process all contracts were being overlooked to see which artists would be kept and who they would let go. Now I'm not too sure if Kano's contract was for just 2 albums but the result has still been the same he's left/dropped or whatever 679 and is currently label less. Will he come back to grime? Most of my work has always been abstract Expression since last October when I began Artist Hideout, and while I enjoy it, I felt there might be something lacking. I’ve been thinking a lot about how technology has and continues to impact the art world and how to express that. So my most recent painting, (and why I’ve been silent the last few days has been an assemblage project that will also be using the abstract form in it’s later stages. You must pardon the cell phone image below (I really must get a better camera than that), but here is where I am with this particular painting. Using rags and some old computer parts (including a hard drive and an old security camera, a sea shell, these were first glued to the canvas. The rags were glued very loosely so to still give the impression of movement around a protrusion of the security camera lens attached to the hard drive. It usually means that I am forced to allocate my time to high priority activities. One of the high-priority activities is making a living and the highest of high priorities is my family. Last week we had a family gathering in Durango, CO and usually this is the only time once a year when all of the “clan” can come together and are able to enjoy a little bit of vacation time in unity. Durango has approximately 15000 people, and I found it interesting that Durango has approximately 1200 active listings. In comparison, Phoenix has 1,500,000 people and approximately 12000 active real estate listings. But this little fact was the extent on how much “Real Estate” I had on my mind on this trip. Everything there appeared to be so much more relaxed… This is the view I enjoyed everyday for the past week and usually it was never more than 75 degrees – this view, the lack of cell phone coverage, no internet connection and other mindless activities were very soothing. I recently read on the WebMetricsGuru blog, that Squidoo is changing because of complaints not because of a desire to do better.  Complaints have been coming, from a limited number of people, that Squidoo is just a spammer, SEO gamer, and porn trading haven. This has not been my experience but then I have the Safe Browsing setting on "G" and I don't browse Squidoo much. The same complaints lobbied at Squidoo can be said for the Internet as well. I don't hear any of these people asking to have it closed down. Squidoo is going to take away the ability to use iFrames on lenses as a reaction not an action. Maybe there is justice...I don't usually write about celebrities but I wrote my last blog about Paris Hilton being released from jail after only 5 days and she had a 45 day sentence. She pleaded no contest to dangerous driving and was sentenced to 36 months' probation, education about alcohol and $1,500 in fines. In the months that followed she was stopped twice while driving on a suspended license.I know if I did this, I'd probably lose my business and my future employment would be a challenge. And, just like in humans, surgery may be the best option to repair the damage in dogs, according to a Kansas State University (K-State) veterinary medicine professor. Dr. James Roush, K-State professor of clinical sciences and a small animal orthopedic surgeon, said a tear in the cruciate ligaments in dogs is caused by arthritis or rigorous physical activity. The cruciate ligaments are in the hind knees of dogs and prevent the tibia — the bone below the knee — from sliding forward when bearing weight. If a dog is older, overweight and already has problems with arthritis, the probability of tearing ligaments in both hind legs is higher, Roush said. On the other hand, if a younger dog is playing catch and lands improperly on a back leg, the chance of tearing the cruciate ligaments in both hind legs is less likely, he said.
