What's the next best thing for Linux users who can't attend an open source community conference in person? Online workshops like last week's Ubuntu Open Week, where upwards of 300 participants per session showed up to learn more about the popular Linux distribution, the community, and its teams. Organizers presented more than 40 events in a dedicated IRC channel over the course of six days. Session leaders spoke to the group in the "Ubuntu classroom" while a second channel was devoted to collecting questions from the group. This kept the learning channel free of chatter and allowed the speaker to proceed without interruption.

For sixty minutes tonight as our contribution to Earth Hour, My wife and I turned off the lights and appliances in our house.Unfortunately, my stepson celebrated Earth Hour by watching television in the garage with the lights on. Maybe next year, he'll get the message. For an event that started in Sydney Australia, this crusade has snowballed around the world. Even the guys at Google are embracing the idea. I've written many articles about grass roots involvement in the "Green Crusade". One of them is buying stocks and mutual funds in green oriented companies. That was the subject of my last blog. "Reduce, Reuse and Recyle" are also activities that anyone can do. What are you doing for the well being of the planet and mankind?&n

Today my wife asked me to take a walk with her in the back roads of Green Valley, CA. Just a peaceful two mile stroll to let off some stress and have some time alone together in the Country. When we returned home, I went upstairs to my office to check my email. When I opened up my Yahoo email, this is what I saw: Now at first glance, I didn't notice anything out of the ordinary, but when I saw the name Rick Andersohn (spelled with an "H" ) I just about fell off my chair. I couldn't open it quick enough!! I have not seen or heard from my Brother in over 40 years! He is the only other Andersohn
Nantes, Saturday lunchtime. Cold beer, warm sunshine and hot food have formed glorious union to thaw those gathered in the picturesque Place Bouffay. As a particularly dishevelled band of England rugby fans lumber into view, loud cheers greet their colourful, if ridiculous, Hawaiian costumes. The youngest of their number, in a shirt with 'Tour Slave' emblazoned across the full girth of his
God is Beauty and loves the Beautiful - Prophetic saying. In Islam beauty is seen as a quality of the divine, and is frequently expressed through the use of vibrant colours in illuminated manuscripts often unparalleled by other artistic cultures; superb and intricate designs and most importantly, the use of beautiful and often highly complex calligraphy not only as a tool of decoration but also as an expression of faith.‘The very word Islam casts both light and shadow over our contemporary world. I believe there has never been a greater need for the wealth and imagination of Islamic cultures and artistic heritage to be revealed. The power of art can open our minds. One is indeed moved to consider how our modern world would be blessed if it could be rid of the radical religious fundamentalisms that so distort faiths and derail the causes of humanity and tolerance. Such musings would, I suspect, find a sympathetic ear in the one individual above all who has made this exceptional exhibit

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. Just kidding, it's the worst of times. I can't even turn on the TV for fear of seeing anything having to do with the election. And gas prices have and are going up and up; I've paid $4.10 a gallon for the past two weeks. But presumptive Republican nominee John McCain (presuming he lives long enough) has a solution. Suspend the Federal gas tax for the summer. That's 18.4 cents per gallon to you and me. Not so fast says Barry Hussein Obama. That's a smoke and mirrors election year tactic that will, "save consumers little and do nothing to curtail oil consumption and imports." In comes Hillrod off the top turnbuckle. Mrs. Clinton says that Mr. Obama is "out of touch with ordinary Americans who are st
