      The Tunnel Time Forgot

There's Light at the End of the Tunnel pt.4
"The Locus of the Circle can be determined in many ways..." was echoing inside the small room. The Foolish Boy stared blankly at the white board, while his teacher, which was also as round as the drawing on the board, was explaining to the whole class about Circles. The Foolish Boy wasn't really interested in numbers, let alone calculations and formulas. To him, numbers couldn't do the job of explaining something which requires more of the emotional touch. Numbers can't talk. Nor it can express your feelings. Lucky him, he was not the only one who disliked maths. Some of the classmates were also hating it as much the Foolish Boy did. Every time, when it came to the Maths class, the Foolish Boy would put on his half-spirited face on, to mention the class, how he disliked Maths so much. He wa

It was the school mid term holidays, when the Foolish Boy decided to really stay in the school for the rest of his schooling days. What had made him to decide such an important decision? After all, the Foolish Boy disliked the school as much as he disliked the Crowd in there. He never ever despised anyone or anything as much as he disliked the school, not since his hatred for the idea of people who are born in such ways are destined to do such ways. It's bare naked ridiculous. How could you believe in such ways? Well, back on to the main story, the Foolish Boy made up his decision mostly based on one most influential person recently in his life. It was all thanks to the Cool Guy, which had changed his perception towards the Crowd forever. But at the same time, he had already made lots of f

The tunnel has a soft inner lining, so if your pup wants to snooze in her tunnel she'll be comfortable. The outer material is easy-to-clean nylon. This is the second and last part of my article about Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Here I will discuss the risk factors, of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, the ways to treat and prevent it, and some self-care tips for those who are experiencing it.Some studies suggest that Carpal Tunnel Syndrome can result from overuse or strain in certain job tasks that require a combination of repetitive, forceful and awkward or stressed motions of your hands and wrists. Examples of these include using power tools — such as chippers, grinders, chain saws or jackhammers — and heavy assembly line work, such as occurs in a meatpacking plant. Although repetitive computer use is commonly assumed to cause Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, the scientific evidence for this association isn't definitive. Although it's not clear which

      Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (Part 1)
Some people might think that Carpal Tunnel Syndrome is a new condition of the information technology age, born from long hours of computer keyboarding. But Carpal Tunnel Syndrome isn't new. Evidence of people experiencing signs and symptoms of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome occurs in medical records dating back to the beginning of the 20th century. Bounded by bones and ligaments, the carpal tunnel is a narrow passageway — about as big around as your thumb — located on the palm side of your wrist. This tunnel protects a main nerve to your hand and nine tendons that bend your fingers. Pressure placed on the nerve produces the numbness, pain and, eventually, hand weakness that characterize Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Fortunately, for most people who develop Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, proper treatment u

Inside the tunnel are several murals sponsored by the Tokyo metropolitan government. One of them was the one pictured here: a series of stiched together slices of typical street scenes in Tokyo - although definitely of the city's better off areas.Anyway, I liked the clean, airy effect that comes across even in the somewhat dingy tunnel, and even after sundown.

      tunnel vision
I travelled to Canary Wharf this afternoon and as I arrived at the train station there I glimpsed some smoke rising from across the river. It actually looked like two separate locations and I thought someone must be having a large bonfire with some rubber tyres or something. Then I walked to my meeting and because of the stories of people wandering around lost for half an hour in Canary Wharf before they find the right building, I'd made a mental map of where I was going. It also meant I could get there completely underground - much of Canary Wharf and Canada Square are linked with underground malls and walkways. So I arrived at my meeting and after travelling in a lift, said by way of small talk to the people I was meeting that I was disoriented and didn't know which way I was facing. So one of them said, "You're facing towards the fire"...At this moment I realized that the smoke I'd seen earlier wasn't just a couple of pirellis but was a large warehouse at the site of the new Lo

      Life is a tunnel
The world is a circle spinning round & around. Sometimes it’s hard to keep both feet on the ground. Sometimes we lose our balance, and fall out of place. Yesterday I lost my way in the crowd. I started to yell & scream very loud. Today I managed to make it through it. I heard a little voice that kept saying ‘Just Do It’ Life is a tunnel, we all must pass through None of us are certain, just where it may lead us to For some of us it may be long The turns we take, may sometimes be wrong. We try to keep on the path that is clear. That will be the least, of all our fear. To move in the direction that is right To reach the end of the tunnel, to see the light. So try to be happy and not sad. Cause life isn’t really always that bad. Tommorrow, I’ll leave behind the sorrow. Because this life here on earth, is only on borrow.

I will stick it up on eBay for a pittance, you never know, someone who likes railways might like it. We went on a walk yesterday, along the river (see Muddy Red Sketch Book for sketches) and up to the old railway line. Railways are strange places; I love them for their promise of travel. A rail trip is my favourite way to voyage across the world, I would love one day to “do” every famous rail journey that there is. But the other thing that they hold for me is a sense of foreboding. Maybe that is my Englishness coming out, all those ghost stories woven around trains and tunnels and tracks. Anyway I don’t like this painting and perhaps that’s why.Sunday trivia question, or alternative title…”Get off the line Bobby” Do you know where that comes from? All answers in a sealed envelope please!21.5 cm x 21.5 cm. 8.5 in x 8.5 in.Watercolour. Painting 034For sale on eB

light at the end of the tunnel
so I've been hopped up on methloquine in an effort to prevent malaria. Van's been dutiful enough to remind me of the correlation as the side-effects get into full-swing. Now most products, you've got your dryness of mouth or perhaps some headaches or even nausea; however, I'm fortunate enough to be hit with the lucid dreaming. perhaps it's been the stress, but I swear the dreams are real. this last one was a doozy; with cnn reporting the world was being invaded by ghosts. crazy lil' buggers materialized in thin air and freaked me right out. i should talk to a psychologist to figure what all of this means. Which reminds me, Kemp you were in the dream too. let me know how ominous this is for either of us. :)

One Week Later: Light at the end of the tunnel?
Today I took off from work to take care of CondoFiasco. It has been a week since I went public with my idea. I have basically made $600 with the links. Kinda far to go still ($284,400 to be exact). It is, though, very encouraging. I have made some new friends and at the very least word got out about my situation. I’m glad I took the day off as I could add links (friends of CF posts and the map). By the way, I should mention that I only have time to update the site at night so don’t freak out if your link doesn’t go up immediately. Tomorrow I have the interview with CNBC in Miami and I suspect it will be a serious one so I have to prepare myself mentally.

      Preventing carpel tunnel syndrome
The bones and other tissues in your wrist help to protect your median nerve; together they form a narrow tunnel that is known as the carpel tunnel. Your median nerve is what gives you feeling in your fingers but occasionally ligaments and tendons get swollen and become painful as they press against the median nerve. When this happens your hand hurts or even becomes numb and you develop an extremely painful condition know as carpel tunnel syndrome. Carpel tunnel syndrome most commonly affects people who do the same movements with their hands continually. Those who more at risk include typists, carpenters, grocery packers and assembly line workers, people with hobbies such as gardening, needlework, golfing and canoeing are also more at risk of developing the syndrome. It has also been linked with illnesses such as diabetes, arthritis and thyroid disease and women in the last few months of pregnancy can develop it. The first signs that indicate you might be suffering from carpel tunnel s

Does keyboard bashing cause Carpal Tunnel?
You hear a lot about repetitive motion injury in the workplace these days as employers are eager to ensure that their backside is covered legally if staff (especially those in the IT industry) develop a problem such as Carpal Tunnel Syndrome (or Median Neuropathy at the Wrist). It’s commonly held that typing at the keyboard for hours on end and constantly moving the mouse around is the kind of thing that just has to be bad for your joints. Well, Tech-recipes wrote a post about CTS yesterday in which they quote a pile of studies (see the article for those) and essentially come to this conclusion: The current research shows that computer use has very little role in causing carpal tunnel syndrome. Common medical diseases that are known to cause carpal tunnel are much more likely to blame than any repetitive use injury. That begs the question: Why are we all buying/wearing those wrist protectors? Is it all a scam? Would Penn & Teller be calling “Bullshit” on this o

5 Freeway Truck Tunnel Fire And The Loss Of A Child
Ever since becoming a parent any mention of any child getting hurt, seriously ill, or (gasp) dying just terrifies me. I can’t help but to feel completely concerned and distressed. Personally, there is nothing worse.Saturday morning we were on our way to a baby shower and got caught on the 5 freeway (I-5) because of the truck tunnel fire. Completely stopped in traffic listening to AM news radio for any mention, checking the iPhone traffic map (which by the way has some major delayed info) and reading news while watching the wife and daughter getting uneasy and just falling asleep.I’ve been in some pretty bad traffic jams but this was the worse and menacing ever, not because we were stopped but largely because of the people in the cars around us. A young Programmer and his Project Manager board a train headed throughthe mountains on its way to Wichita. They can find no place to sitexcept for two seats right across the aisle from a young woman and hergrandmother. After a while, it is obvious that the young woman and theyoung programmer are interested in each other, because they are giving each other looks. Soon the train passes into a tunnel and it is pitch black. There is a sound of a kiss followed by the sound of a slap. When the train emerges from the tunnel, the four sit there without saying a word. The grandmother is thinking to herself, “It was very brash for that young man to kiss my granddaughter, but I’m glad she slapped him.” The Project manager is sitting there thinking, “I didn’t know the young tech was brave enough to kiss the girl, but I sure wish she hadn’t missed him when she slapped me!” The young woman was sitting and thinking, “I’m glad the guy kissed me, but I wish my grandmother had no

Avent Isis – Link With Carpal Tunnel Syndrome?
I now start to believe the locked wrist that I suffered for 14 months a couple of years ago was linked to the usage of Avent Isis. I refused to believe in that, when I was still a heavy user, while I was still breastfeeding Ian. It started to develop when Ian was nearly 2 months old. I suffered so much, couldn’t even lift up an empty plate, lost the chance of bonding with my son, as I couldn’t carry him since he was a baby. I’ve seen many doctors and finally decided to leave it. After I stopped BFG, it somewhat healed by itself. But I still didn’t associate AI with it, though MIL always suggests that. I only started to believe in it, in the recent trips. After giving birth to Isabel, as my sister bought me the electronic pump Medela PIS, I’ve been using that even for overseas trips. Only for the last 3 (Redang, Beijing, BKK) I decided not to bring the pump and not to transport milk home, so I brought my old AI. On the last day of Redang, I started to feel my right wrist

Tips on Preventing Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
Occasionally, I feel tingling and numbness in my hand — two possible early signs of developing carpal tunnel syndrome. This is not good news and I’ve begun to take some measures to prevent further complications. Carpal tunnel syndrome develops slowly over time and is believed to be caused by repetitive tasks such as typing (under debate) that compresses your carpal tunnel (located near your wrist on the inside of your hand). It isn’t a debilitating disease but the common treatment for serious CTS right now is open-hand surgery where they cut into your wrist and cut a ligament. That doesn’t really sound like something I’m interested in experiencing so I think I’d rather stick with these quick fixes: Lift your wrists Try to keep your wrists in the air while typing on your keyboard. If not possible, rest it on something soft (the softer the better) to relieve pressure on the carpal tunnel. Don’t sleep with bent wrists Sleeping with your wris

It has a total length of 646.7 meter and is China's first cross-river artificial sightseeing tunnel. Our guide gave each one of us a one-way ticket trip; we entered into a cute silver cable car on rail that looks like a transparent glass capsule.

      musharrf in tunnel
Vajpayee, Musharraf, Madhuri Dixit and Margaret Thatcher are traveling in a train. The train suddenly goes through a tunnel and it gets completely dark. Suddenly there is a kissing sound and then a slap! The train comes out of the tunnel. Thatcher and Vajpayee are sitting there looking perplexed. Musharraf is bent over holding his face, which is red from an apparent slap. All of them remain diplomatic and nobody says anything.Thatcher is thinking: "These Pakistanis are all crazy after Madhuri. Musharraf must have tried to kiss her in the tunnel. Very proper that she slapped him"Madhuri is thinking: "Musharraf must have moved to kiss me, and kissed Margaret instead and got slapped."Musharraf is thinking: "Damn! it, Vajpayee must have tried to kiss Madhuri, she thought it was me and slapped! me."Vajpayee is thinking: "If this train goes through another tunnel, I could make another kissing sound and slap Musharraf again."

The British embassy tunnel for spies and whores
If it's not the "Great Satan," it's the "old fox" (see this, earlier)... Iranian authorities have discovered a tunnel, they claim, leading into the British embassy in Tehran, to be used by those evil Brits for ferrying spies and prostitutes into the compound. It's the latest childishness from the paranoid Iranian mullahcracy: Iranian authorities claim to have uncovered a long subterranean passage leading to the embassy compound, which occupies a large area in the centre of the Iranian capital. The tunnel was reportedly found by builders digging in a nearby alley. ... Raja News, a fundamentalist website linked to the wife of President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad's official spokesman, claimed the tunnel had been used for trafficking prostitutes and spies. It quoted an unnamed security official who attributed the information to a former employee of the embassy. The allegations are short on facts. But they have been taken seriously enough for three rightwing MPs to table a written demand in p

      Programmer's Nightmare: Cubital Tunnel Syndrome
No programmers were harmed during development of this article.  (Not true… my cubital hurts like mad today!) A programming career is supposed to offer advantages such as longevity and limited physical risk.  Unlike an athlete or blue-collar worker whose livelihood depends on physical ability and can be cut short by injury or aging, most programmers should expect to work right up until retirement, as long as they can raise donut to mouth.  But a nasty secret in the software industry is how repetitive stress injuries including carpal tunnel and cubital tunnel syndrome can make programming a literal pain and threaten your career. Austria, Italy agree on funding for railway tunnel through Alps
The agreement was included in a memorandum of understanding signed by the Austrian transportation minister, Werner Faymann, and his Italian counterpart, Antonio Di Pietro. The memorandum also foresees 2022 as a completion date. The Brenner Base Tunnel will have a length of about 56 kilometers (35 miles) — or 62 kilometers (39 miles) including a detour around the Austrian city of Innsbruck — and will link the north of the continent to its Mediterranean south.

The members of the civilized countries are looking for the betterment of international energy transportation nets while commercially reaching closer in order to strengthen the economic growth and to get ready to face the snags derived from the increasing demand of new energetic sources.A bunch of Latin American countries, however, have stepped into the “time tunnel” helped by certain tyrants that overthrew democracy disguised as rulers and put forward outdated ideologies with the aim of deceiving their own peoples. These peoples were sinking in serious institutional crisis springing from corrupt political corporations that triggered the chance for some opportunists to take power. Is There Any Light At the End of the Tunnel?
The topic below was originally posted on my blog, the Intrepid Liberal Journal as well as the the Independent Bloggers Alliance. Typically, I’m not one to post rants. It’s just not my style. Instead I enjoy reading the skilled rants of others. Maryscott O’Connor’s rants on My Left Wing for example are a touchstone for my own emotions about the state of the world. Nobody cuts to the chase like Maryscott.Another who inspires me is Bob Higgins of Worldwide Sawdust. There is an old cliché that laughing is better than crying and Bob has the singular ability to help me laugh at the absurdity we’re surrounded by on a daily basis. When it comes to rants I leave it to the professionals and stick to my strengths. Yet today I’m compelled to express my despair and feeling of utter helplessness. The Supreme Court’s recent rulings were a kick in the groin.Granted, these rulings are hardly a surprise.
