Benefits of Being a Home Based Travel Agent
I have received several emails from people asking what are benefits of being a home based travel agent, if you do not want to be involved in selling the YTB travel agent opportunity or YTB REP.When you join YTB as an RTA (referring travel agent) you can sell travel and earn commissions. You have a travel booking website, similar to Expedia and Travelocity, except you earn and keep the commissions, not some Internet giant. You also have all the benefits of a travel agent, after you apply and attend the recommended travel agent certification class and adhere to other pertinent rules and regulations, including on-going training classes available in your travel website back office. How about the benefits of traveling like an industry insider? You can take FAM or familiarization trips, solely res

Travel agent cornered sale of Indonesian visa forms
A Tokyo-based travel agency that gave about 14 million yen to a Japanese man involved in a scandal over the issuance of visas by the Indonesian Embassy in Tokyo, was granted a monopoly on selling forms for proxy applications for the visas for at least three years, The Yomiuri Shimbun has learned. The man, 50, was in charge of issuing visas at the Indonesian Embassy. Travel agencies other than National Business Support (NBS) were unable to obtain such documents from the embassy, and had to buy them from the firm in question. As about half of all proxy applications for Indonesian visas were made via the company during the period in question, fresh suspicions have been raised regarding the firm's relations with the embassy. NBS, based in Chuo Ward, Tokyo, explained it had sold the forms f

      Trust your Travel Agent?
With Air New Zealand recent announcement of their online sales surpassing $1 billion in a financial year for the first time, it appears that more people are shunning travel agents.A recent guest to New Zealand told me an interesting story regarding travel planning and his experiences involving a large chain of Australian travel agents. Before the advent of the internet, travel agents were the only way one could book and plan a overseas holiday. There are two methods that travel agents book accommodation in New Zealand for inbound guests- 1. Direct booking with the New Zealand accommodation providers. The agencies in return ask a commission of 30% from the property 2. Many agencies negotiate monthly minimum guaranteed room bookings. It works like this, the travel agent books X amount of rooms per month at a heavily discounted rate and agree to pay the accommodation provider for those room regardless of whether the agents filling these rooms. Now in both methods the guest, in this case a

Do you buy your travel insurance from a travel agent?
The UK Treasury is investigating the sale of travel insurance purchased as part of a package from travel agents. At present travel insurance bought as part of a package is not subject to the same Financial Servies Authority (FSA) regulation as stand alone travel insurance. I know that travel agents make good commission on selling insurance to customers. Travel agents are opposed to the extension of FSA regulation and assert they are in the best position to offer pertinent advice on an appropriate policy, offer convenience to the customer and ensure that the customer is immediately covered and doesn’t forget to buy an insurance policy later. The British Insurance Brokers Association (BIBA) believes that self regulation cover sold by travel agent does not always offer the best protection and is often overpriced. I can not remember the last time I purchased travel insurance from a travel agent as I always thought it was too expensive. Even in the days before the internet I woul
