The transportation index made a new high close today. As you know I've been bullish on the transportation index based on Dow Theory and the head and shoulders formation that developed back in March.
I raised my protective stop just below this week's low to lock in profits.
My price objective is almost reached and on the next push up I will exit my long position.

As you know I've been bullish on stocks based on the Dow Theory Buy Signal we had during the month of March. Today the transportation index exploded higher rising 3.40% and is coming very close to my upside target. My upside objective is the highs from last summer.
As I mentioned previously, the DJ Transportation Average is outperforming the Dow Jones Industrial Average, which generally is bullish for the overall market.

Last month I pointed out that there was a Dow Theory buy signal based on the transportation index showing bullish divergence compared to the Dow Jones Industrials. I also pointed out the head and shoulders bottom that was created in the transportation index.

The Transport sector (and therefore the outlook for the economy as a whole) didn't have it easy over the past few days. UPS disappointment was enough to break the low volatility slumber markets had enjoyed for the best part of a week. However, the Dow Jones Transportation Average continues to hold firm at its 200-day MA with the 50-day MA on course to trigger a "Golden Cross" - a significant long term bullish signal. If you read my last post you would know that I was leaning towards being bullish on stocks based on Dow Theory. Today we saw stocks explode higher with the transports leading the way making a 5 month high.
If you notice in the lower pane the ratio line has been rising since the beginning of the year and is making a 20 month high.

Monday's quiet trading did turn up one key positive; the back test of former resistance-turned support of the Dow Jones Transportation Average ($TRAN). The move was accompanied with a bullish hammer on higher volume, giving two more ticks in the bull column. Stochastics are on a 'sell' from overbought levels, so it could take a test of the 50-day MA to work a more solid bounce and reset stochastics.
