We have been monitoring the horrible fires in southern California and in particular the San Diego area. Five years ago, we moved from the Escondido area to northern California. The fires are near our previous home which is located on the north side of Lake Hodges at the southwestern edge of Escondido. At this point 4 or 5 homes have burned in that development which is called Lomas Serenas. Robb Mohr sat by his wife's hospital bed two weeks ago, trying to take it all in. His wife, Jolee Mohr, was breathing with the help of a ventilator in a Chicago intensive care unit -- her body bloated from internal bleeding, her liver failing -- and no one could figure out what was wrong with her.
Jolee Mohr died from massive bleeding and organ failure July 24, leaving behind a 5-year-old daughter and a host of questions about why she was recruited into a gene therapy experiment whose chief goal was to test the safety of a novel arthritis treatment that had virtually no chance of helping her.

On Monday, June 18, 2007, Charleston, SC firefighters were battling a fire that destroyed the local Sofa Super Store. The fire broke out about 7pm in the warehouse, forcing officials to close off nearby roadways. The fire at the Charleston furniture store was still blazing six hours after the first call. A salesman from a nearby car dealership said he saw firefighters rescue four people from the building. The cause of the fire was not confirmed. View the original article for more details. Defensive Lineman Bryan Pata was shot and killed last night at his apartment complex, just a couple of hours after the 'Canes finished practicing.Pata was a 22-year old senior, one of the defensive leaders for the Hurricanes, who was looking to get drafted next April in the NFL draft. He was well-liked on campus and wasn't known for having problems with anyone. All is not well in Darkshire today. Preliminary reports coming from, appropriately, the Darkshire cemetary indicate that at least 10 players from the Alliance guild Fratris Fatuus on the Argent Dawn roleplaying server were killed in a tragic Roflcopter crash.
The Roflcopter apparently took off from Northsire Abbey in Elwynn forest at 2:00pm EST heading south towards Darkshire. Ten guild members, all at level one, crossed the river into Darkshire where the Roflcopter promptly crashed and burned in the middle of a pack of level 20 wolves.
With the publication of the Lord Stevens report into the death of Diana, Dodi Al Fayed and chauffeur Henri Paul it seems like the ashes of this long dead fire have to be raked over again. There seems to be the strange, and totally illogical, contrast created in the media between the conspiracy view on the one hand, and tragic accident view on the other.
