Ahhh, I love the internet. There was some banter being had this past week as jovial barbs were being tossed about like Dan Marino and the '83 Dolphins. My man Omen did a good job and getting the mob riled up by shredding apart Follow The Leader, which I'm sure was more to see how well he could press everyones buttons than actually tearing down the duo's second album. And riled up the

In my haste to get to the post yesterday I forgot to put in a little shameless plug for myself. I also do a little blogging over at Complete Sports, and you guys should check it out. Villanova 84, Siena 72Didn't catch much of the lone early game. Villanova got out to an early lead and was in control throughout. They shot 54% as a team, and were 6/13 from 3. Scottie Reyonlds led the way with 25 points, 8 boards, and 5 assists. Tay Fisher, 6/6 from deep in the win over Vandy, was only 1/4 from beyond the arc in this one.Texas 75, Miami FL 72Tennessee 76, Butler 71 (OT)Davidson 74, Georgetown 70WKU 72, San Diego 63These were fun.The Longhorns came out on fire from 3, starting out the game 7/11. When they get going, with Augustin running things and Abrams hitting from everywhere, they're tough to stop. Miami staged a late comeback- the highlight was Augustin, up 2 with 2 seconds left, airballing his first FT attempt- but it wasn't enough. Abrams finished with 26, 6/
Two thrilling finishes today, with UCLA and Stanford barely advancing. More on both below, but I'd first like to be obnoxious and point out how poor the officiating was in both of the late games- Michigan St. and the Bruins both got a lot of calls. The most notable was the last play of the UCLA game, with a no call on Josh Shipp. Incredibly, I don't think the announcers ever mentioned the possibility of a foul. CBS was not on top of its game today, both the announcers and their choices in flipping to games. At one point in the afternoon, as the Xavier game was ending, I think we got about three minutes of basketball in an hour of real time. Anyway, enough complaining, onto the games.UCLA 53, Texas A&M 49Three of UCLA's five starts were awful. Shipp didn't score a point. Mbah a M
Ironically, the last Philadelphia school to get in the 2008 NCAA tournament is now the only team to survive the opening round. Villanova beat Clemson 75-69 in one of the last games of the night - and it was a great one.

An absolutely classic day in Tampa, with all four lower seeds- Villanova, Siena, Western Kentucky, and San Diego- advancing. This had never happened before; there was a 0.37% chance of all four of those teams winning. If someone was going to the games, and casually threw 10 bucks down on a parlay with the money lines of the four dogs, they turned that into $2570.It's really too bad that Tim Brando was calling each game- not only does he continually screw up, but he sounds like he really doesn't want to be there. Still, quite a day, and we'll have at least two double-digit seeds in the Sweet 16.WestWestern Kentucky 101, Drake 99 (OT)San Diego 70, Connecticut 69 (OT)The WKU-Drake game was discussed earlier. It was a good one.I was never particularly high on UConn, and I don't think I ha
The first round of the NCAA Tournament is always a strange collection of games. Inevitably, the majority of them are not going to be close. This is what happens when you match the UCLAs and Stanfords of the world against the MVSUs and Cornells. What makes the tournament what it is- and this was particularly obvious today- is when those games aren't close. It doesn't matter that Duke ended up beating Belmont by 1. Short of Justin Hare's halfcourt heave going in at the buzzer, I can't imagine a more exciting finish than that. None of the other games were particularly memorable- the second closest margin of victory was Texas A&M beating BYU by 5- but can you really complain? On these first two days, it only takes one.EastNotre Dame 68, George Mason 50Washington St. 71, Winthrop 40Tho
Throughout the conference tournament previews, I mentioned how terrible the odds for the longshots were. If any of those teams made a run, you could make a lot more money betting on the money lines in each individual game than you would if you bet on the futures odds at the beginning of the tournament. Conversely, there seemed to be significantly more value in the the odds for the top three or so teams in each tournament.Over the last few days, I tracked the money lines for each conference tournament game. Using this information, we can determine the "true odds" for each team that reached their conference tournament final- that is, the odds you could've gotten if you bet on their money line each game, rolling the winnings over to the next game. The table below shows these "true odds" f

11:24 I am now a big Joe Alexander fan:Reporter: You grew up in China. What was that like?Alexander: There were a lot of Chinese people.Different reporter, after making a statement about how it seems like the Mountaineers are peaking at the right time: Do you feel like you're peaking?Alexander, starting to answer, then realizing the potential other meaning of this, and breaking into laughter: "Ye-- Yeah." (The reporter, oblivious to this, nods.)11:27 Most of the bubble teams have either lost, or won enough that I've moved them to "in". Thus, there are only two bubble games today:Virginia Tech vs. North Carolina, 1:30 pm ET. Win, and the Hokies are clearly in. Lose, and I still hate their resume- even after yesterday's win over Miami FL, they are only 1-6 against the RPI Top 50.Temple vs
7:07 Tonight's bubble games:St. Joseph's (right now, vs. Xavier)Temple (9:00pm, vs. Charlotte)UNLV (midnight, vs. Utah)7:09 With their win over Vandy, Arkansas is now definitely in.8:37 Purdue and Illinois are headed to overtime. The end of regulation was completely insane. The two teams combined for 28 points in the last 5:35. For a Big 10 game, that is completely insane.Randle fouls out, Illinois has a two point lead with 3:33 to play.8:45 Kansas was down at halftime, but they've outscored Nebraska 25-11 to open the second half, and now lead by 9. Georgetown is destroying West Virginia, up 20 with 3:35 to play. St. Joe's can likely now be moved from the bubble to "in", as they beat Xavier earlier.8:58 Illinois beats Purdue. Which makes perfect sense.9:18 Duke and Kansas win. The
12:45 Okay. I don't know if this makes any sense, but I've come way too far on it to turn back now. With the help of Lunardi, Sheehan, and Parrish, I have tried to figure this whole bubble situation out. As far as I can tell, strictly based on resume and ignoring automatic bids, these 38 teams are in the tournament, regardless of the events of the next 53 hours:Butler, BYU, Clemson, Connecticut, Davidson, Drake, Duke, Georgetown, Gonzaga, Indiana, Kansas, Kansas St., Kent St., Kentucky, Louisville, Marquette, Memphis, Miami (FL), Michigan St., Mississippi St., Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Pittsburgh, Purdue, Saint Mary's, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M, UCLA, UNC, UNLV, USC, Vanderbilt, Washington St., West Virginia, Wisconsin, Xavier.12:51 In addition, 11 teams not on this list hav
7:37 I'm back. UCLA destroyed Cal, 88-66. Pitt is currently up three on Louisville, with 5:30 remaining in the first half.7:44 A quick bubble recap from the early games:Villanova: Lost to Georgetown, probably out.Dayton: Lost to Xavier, almost certainly out.West Virginia: Defeated UConn, probably secured a berth.Miami FL: Beat NC State, should be in now.Arizona St: Lost to USC. Very, very borderline.Baylor: Lost to Colorado in double OT. Probably still in, but losing to a team with an RPI of 166 was a bad idea.Vanderbilt: Beat Auburn...I'm kidding, of course. I can't see them getting in.7:50 Now a look ahead to this evening's bubble games:Florida: In desperate need of a win. Currently down 19-5 to Alabama, 5 minutes into the game.Oregon: Plays Washington St. at 9pm ET. If they win,

20.07.07 - By Mike Dunn: We are fast approaching the 40th anniversary of the start of the fateful eight-man World Boxing Association (WBA) heavyweight tournament that was employed to determine a successor to Muhammad Ali. On August 5, 1967, the tournament got underway with a doubleheader televised on ABC’s Wide World of Sports featuring former Ali sparring partner Jimmy Ellis against Philadelphia up-and-comer Leotis Martin, and former WBA champ Ernie Terrell, who had recently been hammered in a more…

BIG XIIAs biased as this could be I really think that Kansas will be our Big XII Champ. Although I think you can look for some really great games. I think potentially KU vs. Tex Tech, Texas vs. Texas A&M will be great semifinal games. Especially Texas A&M vs. Texas: I feel like this game could sway either way but I'm going with A&M because I've seen quite a bit of the Aggies and Acie Law and I think they are legit. They have the edge with experience over a young Longhorns team. Look for the championship to be very hard-fought and close between Texas A&M and KU. But, aside from them being my team I'm taking KU. Acie Law is great but I can't pick against the likes of Rush, Wright, Chalmers and Robinson. This should be exceptional viewing so make sure to tune in for some of these games over spring break. This year's BIG XII tourney should be one of the better tournaments and I think we are all in for a treat.BIG TENWhen a lot of people think of good college basketball they us
For the third consecutive season, the Syracuse Orangemen have defeated my beloved UCONN Huskies in the Big East Tournament. Coming into the game on Tuesday afternoon, I had been aware that we had one chance and one chance only to make it to the NCAA Tournament and that would be an amazing run in the Big East Tourney and somehow make and upset unbelievable upset to win the whole damn thing. And of course, that didn't happen. The stupid spandex-wearing Orange defeated the Huskies, 78-65 thanks to dumb Demetris Nichols' 28 points and his "special friend", Eric Devendorf, and his equally dumb 19 points. What makes this loss even more unbearable(if at all possible) is once again we had the lead at half-time and we end up giving it away at the end. So yes, that was a bad way to end a bad season, what's that? We still have the NIT you say? Well maybe not, according to this site, we're on the bubble for even a NIT bid. How embarrassing would that be? Pretty damn if you ask me. I mean how ma
