2009 Nissan GT-R Ownership Myths Dispelled - There’s no speed limiter, the tires won’t wear out in 3000 miles, and Nissan even picks up some of the service costs
You’ve likely already read the various rumors flying around the Internet about the GT-R’s steep ownership costs; that it has a speed limiter unless you’re at a Nissan-approved track; and that tires can only be replaced four at a time. We heard these things, too, courtesy of a tire supplier to GT-R, so we called up Nissan and got to the bottom of it. Most of the gloom-and-doom hype is unfounded. See below for our questions and Nissan’s responses. Rumor 1: Nissan’s GPS will only allow full-speed operation in the U.S. at Nissan-approved tracks. There is no speed limiter on the U.S. spec GT-R unless you count the rev limiter. Rumor 2: Once a vehicle has been run an approved track, it must be subjected to a post-track safety inspection at a Nissan dealer (brake fluid, suspension, tire

After reading a comment and email from Rich Gostenik of the Green Diamond Tire Company relating to my article Tires And The Environment; I invited him to write a piece about his company and products as I thought these tires were rather unique in an industry that contributes significantly to our environmental woes. While it is certainly in vogue to proclaim a company’s product as being ‘green’, Green Diamond Tire is a company that has produced a more environmentally ‘green’ tire for nearly a decade and is only now beginning to… [sic] gain traction :-) Truly, an environmentally responsible tire. Stewart, Earnhardt think bad of Goodyear's tires
Personally I think it's the bump stops and not the tires, but that's just my opinion. The balancing act between safety concerns and competition that Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. faces each week was the post-race focus of several top finishers Sunday. It left both sides defensive and fans wondering what happened to the typical side-by-side racing for which Atlanta Motor Speedway is famous.Tony Stewart, who finished second in the Kobalt Tools 500, and third-place finisher Dale Earnhardt Jr. were outspoken in their criticism for the tire compound brought to Atlanta. There were no tire failures reported during the race, but the two agreed that the harder tire made it almost impossible for drivers to run side-by-side. Only thirteen cars were on the lead lap at the finish."That was the most pathe

How Rotating My Car Tires Taught Me About Blogging
First I want to apologize about the 12 Month Internet Millionaire Series. I will get to it soon - as you can see I am busy with contest and projects - I will try to get to it real quick! The bad news for law enforcement is that spike strips will not work on these tires. Rotate Them Tires!
In my side-business of working on cars and trucks for friends and acquaintances, I can't tell you how many vehicles I see with the tires all chewed up from being neglected. Tires cost a lot of money these days, and if you're like me, you don't have money to burn. I know that with the hectic lifestyle most of us lead nowadays, the potential exists to not think about tires. I recommend rotating tires about every 5000 to 7000 miles. It is not expensive and many folks just get it done when they get their oil changed. If you do it yourself, it's free and it doesn't even require any parts! Don't be one of those people who has a pair of tires on the front of the car that is all chewed up on the outer edges while the back tires are nearly new. Rotate Them Tires! and while you're at it, make sure to keep an eye on them for proper inflation too.

      Burning Tires 3D
It's 3D and it's a racing game! That alone would make a lot of people buy it. However I should advise you not to get overwhelmed by your instinct in this case. The game lacks a lot in comparison to other mobile racing games. The 3D engine is nice and looks ok, not great, just ok, all of the cars and the tracks are seriously unrealistic which makes us put this game in the arcade category. There isn't a lot of variety when it comes to environments though, just 3 types are present: desert, lava and ice.The cars are varied enough not to get bored of the game immediately. You start with one car and need to unlock the others as well as a few extra game modes. However the controls of the car are horrible! Once you press your directional key left or right you feel like there's nothing stopping your car from moving, no friction, no drag, nothing. Also the music is the same on every track and not very well suited for this kind of game, making the game feel even more repetitive and boring which

82-Year-Old Ex-Beauty Queen Stops Intruder by Shooting Out Tires
From the AP WAYNESBURG, Ky. Miss America 1944 has a talent that likely has never appeared on a beauty pageant stage: She fired a handgun to shoot out a vehicle's tires and stop an intruder. Venus Ramey, 82, confronted a man on her farm in south-central Kentucky last week after she saw her dog run into a storage building where thieves had previously made off with old farm equipment. Ramey said the man told her he would leave. "I said, 'Oh, no you won't,' and I shot their tires so they couldn't leave," Ramey said. She had to balance on her walker as she pulled out a snub-nosed .38-caliber handgun. "I didn't even think twice. I just went and did it," she said. "If they'd even dared come close to me, they'd be 6 feet under by now." Ramey then flagged down a passing motorist, who called 911. Curtis Parrish of Ohio was charged with misdemeanor trespassing, Deputy Dan Gilliam said. The man's hometown wasn't immediately available. Three other people were questioned but wer

Kenyan Tourism Tip #1: Bring Spare Tires, and Spare Cash
(Written Tuesday, February 13, 2007) It seems that I may have brought some of the bad ju-ju from Muhuru Bay back to Kiminini with me. My flight to safety can be described only as hellacious. My trip got off to a good enough start. I caught the bus from Muhuru Bay a little after 7 a.m. Monday. My escort was already on the bus, and I was able to link up with him easily enough. Soon, though, the games began. And in Africa every game ends with someone handing over a big wad of cash. Although it is difficult to tell, Kenya does have transportation laws. These laws restrict vehicle speed, passenger numbers, etc. I have yet to run across a public transportation employee who abides by these rules. The bus from Muhuru Bay can seat approximately 60 people. At one point, the bus driver had an extra 25 people standing in the aisle. Highly illegal behavior. So, as we rolled out on to the main road to Kisumu, the bus driver began to restrict the number of extra people he accepted. From Migori to

The Truth About Filling Your Tires with Nitrogen
Jet planes, armored personnel carriers and racecars all have nitrogen-filled tires. So it’s got to be cool, right? I mean, I wish my Honda Odyssey minivan was more like an F-22 in some way. Or in any way. Anyway, is it worth an average five bucks a tire to stuff your rubber with the seventh element? For the majority of American drivers– those who do not routinely drive through flaming pools of fuel, off-road on dunes hotter than Scarlett Johansson’s hips or hit 200mph on the straight-aways– the answer is a simple “no.” Yet thousands of vendors are setting up nitrogen pumps and enticing people to pop open their stems. What’s the point?

      Smart Cars Need Smart Tires
Smart cars that keep themselves in the proper lane, maintain the correct following distance and sense driver fatigue are so passe. Now, thanks to researchers at Purdue University, your smart car can have smart tires. Reuters reports the net technology incorporates sensors that can detect problems like cuts, leaks, imbalance and improper mounting. A chip inside the tire probes the layers of the tire and relays information. The developer plans to patent the technology and license it to tire makers. He said it would cost the manufacturers about $1 per tire, but expects it'll add about $50 to the cost of a tire by the time it gets into consumers' hands. How smart is that?
