Last Thursday, I was honored to chair one of four panels at a special seminar, "Dealing with Today's Asymmetric Threat," co-sponsored by the National Defense University and CACI International , with assistance from the Counterterrorism Foundation. The purpose of the seminar was to establish a framework for the development of an integrated and synchronized strategy, by the end of the calendar year,

Geneva.— CUBA warned Friday that the food security of developing countries is endangered for a variety of reasons, among them the rising cost of fuel.
Jorge Ferrer, minister counselor of Cuba’s permanent mission in Geneva, told the World Trade Organization that the spiraling cost of food is threatening world stability, reported PL.
During a meeting of the Trade Negotiations Committee known as the Doha round, Ferrer emphasized that the WTO’s agriculture negotiations, which in practice reduce food aid and export credits, are also issues which must be taken into account.
Obviously, the economic, political and social stability of an important group of underdeveloped countries cannot be put at risk solely as a result of trade considerations, he emphasized.

Tagging the threats as possible hate crimes also makes it clear that prejudice could have prompted them, and "we wanted to bring

Computer Virus threats are neither surprising nor new on the Web. They are stepping towards newer technologies such as VoIP and instant messengers. With advancement in the features available on the Internet, hackers continue to drive malware. This underlines an importance of being aware and secure when traversing the Web. Wilders merely asks Muslims to begin reforming Islam, to tear out those pages of barbaric, racist, anti-Jew, anti-infidel, murderous, primitive, inhumane, misogynistic, savage, cruel, intolerant, noxious, evil, vile filth from the Quran. Is that too much to ask?

Today at Take Back America I had the opportunity to hear a provocative presentation on the movement against nuclear proliferation by Joe Cirincione of Ploughshares Fund.
Cirincione made the compelling point that nuclear proliferation and global warming rank as the two greatest threats to America’s national security and to the well-being of people in general. He believes that the movements on both of these issues should coordinate to reframe the entire national security debate away from the vague rhetoric of “terrorism” and “evil” to address real, frightening threats. By speaking out strongly on these two issues, in other words, progressives can demonstrate that they and not conservative reactionaries are at the forefront of the national security debate.

Fashion should be referred to like that of a magnetic force because of its power of attraction. People of all ages are drawn to the latest trend in designs that hang on boutique clothes rails like magnets. Regardless of shape and size there will always be a new designer creation to suit you. What you need to remember is - an outfit should be tailor made around your size - and not your size around the outfit you tend on wearing. Dieting is all well and good in a bid to shed those excess pounds should you be on the pleasantly plump side, but, sadly, there are women who feel the need to follow suit of others i.e. models that grace the catwalk. Images of bony skeletal frames are not a pretty sight, so why would you want to change from what is, naturally you, to what naturally belongs to someon

When a person is targeted at work, it is often a traumatic and stressful situation. The impact of being targeted isn’t simply felt because a person is sensitive or hypersensitive, but because a big part of being a target at work involves being on the receiving end of all manner of threats and abuses. In the initial phases of being a target, many of us go through denial. We try to talk ourselves out of realizing the severity of our situation by downplaying what is going on. After all, denial is one of the easiest ways to ensure self-preservation. If there’s no problem, there’s no issue, right? But, there’s usually a point of no return for many targets. This is the point where a target realizes that they may have their career permanently derailed, they may lose their reputation, they m
Submitted By: Gabriel Adams Most of us rely on our personal computers and those in our office to complete multiple tasks each day. If that data is lost or compromised it can create numerous problems for us. Protecting computers against viruses and spyware is something you should do before you start using any program on it. The information you prevent from being accessed could be your credit card accounts and bank accounts. If they are compromised you can end up becoming a victim of identity theft. One way that people accidentally end up with viruses or spyware on their computer is by not paying attention to the sites they use. Don’t get into the habit of giving out your personal information online just because a site asks for it. To opt in, you should only have to give them a first name

They even accepted the army chief, General Suleiman’s, who was considered closer to the opposition than to March 14. And finally they even agreed to give up the absolute majority in the council of Ministers ( out of a total of 30 ministers: giving 7seven to the president, 10 to the opposition and only 14 to the parliamentary majority) But no, Nassrallah wants more, and if he doesn

According to a news report involving the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children, one out of seven children who browse the internet experiences some sexual solicitation of some kind. That means someone’s child within your immediate vicinity must have been approached inappropriately at least once when using the internet. Do not discount this threat as harmless since it’s online. Child sex offenders are very real and so is the danger they present. Here are 10 steps you can take to fight online child sex offenders and protect your child:
1. Know their M.O. and understand the threat.
There are plenty of tools and resources that authorities and private organizations use to combat child sex offenders and yet, even they feel that they could do more. This is because child sex offenders are aware of what people do and don't do to protect their children.

This week, Oprah Winfrey hit the campaign trail for Democratic presidential hopeful Barack Obama, Northern Illinois University shut down and reschedule final exams because of a racially-tinged threat, Jesse Jackson plans to march on Wall Street, Rev. Al Sharpton threatens to lobby the International Olympic Committee against Chicago’s bid to host, and Univision hosted a debate for the Republican presidential candidates. There is no direct connection between these events, of course, but there is a common theme of tacit electoral implications between Oprah’s endorsement and the racial concerns at NIU, on Wall Street, in Chicago, and in the Univision debate. Winfrey did not focus on race in her 17-minute speech in Iowa on Saturday. Her endorsement, which did refer broadly to r
My suspicion that many extinction headlines have been sensationalized is well founded, it appears. The sad part is that if most people pay no attention to the exaggerated headlines, the truth will likely have even less impact.
Well, slowly the year is coming to an end – 10% to go J. This is the time where everybody is looking back and – additionally – tries to look into the Crystal Ball to understand how 2008 could be.
Interestingly enough, I just had the discussion about the trends for 2008 this morning with a friend of mine and this afternoon a blog post by Symantec hit me with the title: A Look Ahead to Security Trends in 2008 which is an interesting read (pretty short, which is good).
I do not want to comment it (yet) as we are working on that as well at the moment but it seems that we are more or less on the same line. The only thing I am missing is that I think that social networks (like Xing, Facebook, Linkedin, …) have a high potential to be abused as a source for information for social engineering attacks.
What is everywhere in common is that we will see the criminals misuse the Internet to illegally (or immorally) make money

It has been reported that the surgeon that operated on Kanye West’s mother the day before she died has walked off Larry King’s chat show.
Dr Jan Adams was due to appear exclusively on the show to talk about the Kanye’s late mother but pulled out following threats from the West family that they would decertify him from the California medical board if he appeared on the programme.
But it is said that when Dr Adams joined Larry on set, he told Larry that he would obey the West family’s wishes and not talk on the show.
Dr Jan Adams said on air that “I am going to honour the West family’s wishes…I will not be on the show” and then and walked off the set.
What do you think is Dr Jan Adams to blame for the death of Kanye’s mother?

How Cruel..Oscar-winner Halle Berry has hired security guards because of racist threats to her unborn baby.
The star, three months pregnant, has received letters at her LA home from an anonymous sicko.
One said she and her child would be "cut into hundreds of pieces".

A source close to the actress said: "Halle does not normally use security but she has taken on a couple of guys to make sure." Police are investigating the threats.
I wonder if the letters actually said something involving race or if they're just assuming it's a racist threat because it's a threat on the baby (not that that would necessarily be a wrong assumption). 1st Jenna now this.

On September 24, the Cybercast News Service ran a story about a GAO report issued September 21 reflecting that our Diversity Visa program was at notable risk of fraud abuse and that risk was particularly vulnerable to misuse by foreign terrorist operatives seeking to enter and remain in the United States, utilizing the program to gain “legal” immigration status and cover. The Diversity Visa program was initially established to facilitate immigration from countries with otherwise low levels of immigrant...(read more)
Several Sunni insurgent factions fighting in Iraq have recently released official communiqués addressing brewing conflicts over the jihad media war--including divisions that exist within the mujahideen community itself. On August 29, the Mujahideen Army issued a statement accusing their "dear brothers" from the Al-Furqan Foundation--the official media wing of Al-Qaida's "Islamic State of Iraq"--of distributing a video of a military operation that had already been claimed months earlier by the Mujahideen...(read more)
from InfoWorld 19/9/2007Website: http://www.infoworld.comSan Francisco (InfoWorld) - Malware-infected botnet PCs have overtaken DoS attacks as the top security issue facing Internet service providers and other Web infrastructure hosting players, according to a new survey of the organizations.Arbor Networks published the results of its third-annual Infrastructure Security Report on Monday -- a survey of 75 large ISPs, hosting companies, and other providers -- which found for the first time that botnets currently outrank DoS threats as the most serious concern for the firms.Tens of millions of PCs are likely infected with botnet programs worldwide, according to survey results, and Arbor researchers said the ISPs they questioned admitted to spending more time and resources battling botnets than ever before.Infrastructure providers are finding botnets hard to pin down, as the people responsible for controlling the zombie machines are increasingly employing more advanced detection evasion t

Introduction Internet becomes popular and popular these days but do you aware your computers are very insecure when you are surfing internet and checking your email? In this article, we will give you 7 easy steps on "how to protect your PC from online threat" these days. Step 1: Get the latest free anti-virus, personal firewall and anti-spam software and manually update the programs! These are most easy step to protect from computer virus or trojan horses attack but often users forget to get the latest update of their anti-virus or personal firewall on their computers! "Are they automatically updated to newest version?" That was a customer asked me back in 2004. Well yes, those commercial anti-virus or personal firewall programs will automatically update within their license periods usually one year. One typical example is Symantec Norton Anti-Virus 200x where x is a number from 0-9. It does automatically update within the first, perhaps, 9 months after your initial purchase but when
Have you ever wondered what type of malware is more predominant in the wild then others and which ones are going extinct?
I thought I would shed some light on this subject since I have been getting quite a few questions lately.
It seems in the last year that several categories of malware seem to be on the verge of extinction, while others are on the rise.
Trojans make up for more then 80% of what PandaLabs detected this quarter. Mainly due to the change in behavior oriented towards carrying out ’silent’ attacks to gain profit.
Another interesting point is the commercialization of Malware to be sold through the Internet and to other hackers. Today one can rent DDoS services at a price of $10 - $20 per hour.
Pretty astonishing isn’t it? This makes it easy for anyone to commit financial fraud on the basis of malware for sale.

A little while ago I wrote about what I see as a growing threat to freedom of expression in the realm of the "Web 2.0". Earlier this week CBC's "The National" ran the following story about how libel lawsuits are starting to put a freeze on on-line freedom of expression:As the power of user-generated content on the Internet increasingly becomes mainstream, the perhaps predictable backlash is being felt from those who prefer a more centralized and controlled form of mass media and public debate. This is certainly going to be one of the big issues surrounding this new frontier of public discourse in our society and an issue that should be of concern to everyone who values having a full opportunity to participate in our democracy.

Bertrand Russell, in hisWisdom of the West, put forward a simple thesis. Western Civilization is essentially Greek civilization. There is no civilization but the Greek in which a philosophic movement goeshand in hand with a scientific tradition. It is this that gives the Greek enterprise its peculiar scope; it is this dual tradition that hasshaped the civilization of the west.--Bertrand Russell, Wisdom of the WestIn support of his thesis, Russell points to the authoritarian, theocratic natures of earlier civilizations --Egypt and Babylonia.Religion, Russell stated, seems inconsistent with the Greek spirit offree inquiry typified most famously by Socrates and the Platonictradition that followed. It is because Greek civilization was primarilysecular, Russell believed, that the spirit of "free inquiry" took rootin the west. This spirit, he believed, was incompatible with bothauthoritarianism and religion itself.A Renaissance of Western Civilization was associated with the pre-eminence of Lo

The Canadian Air Transport Safety Authority, trying to clamp down on screeners who alert police every time they hear alarming words, has issued a bulletin urging staff to show more discretion.
A person who announces “You better look through my suitcase carefully, because there’s a bomb in there”, “I am going to set fire to this airplane with this blowtorch” or “The man in seat 32F has a machine gun” will still be arrested.
But someone who remarks “Your hockey team is going to get bombed (badly beaten) tonight”, “Hi Jack!” or “You don’t need to frisk me, I’m not carrying a weapon” will first be warned about their behavior.

Remains to be seen if this is a real threat or a hoax:
The FBI is investigating letters sent to newspapers nationwide that say "Goldman Sachs. Hundreds will die. We are inside. You cannot stop us," the bureau said Friday, but government and company officials are downplaying the threat.
U.S. Postal Inspection Service said the letters were sent to 20 small to mid-size newspapers, including publications in Indiana, Texas, Idaho, Tennessee and New Jersey.

The FBI does not yet know who mailed the letters, which were signed "A.Q.U.S.A.," FBI sources told CNN.
