A most awful crime has taken place in Philadelphia's Port Richmond neighborhood, committed by bank robbers wearing niqabs (H/T: Michelle Malkin):

"Identity theft is one of those topics that rarely leaves the headlines. Two prominent U.S. government data breaches in recent years -- a laptop stolen from the Department of Veterans Affairs, and a breach at the Energy Department -- resulted in the theft of the personal data of millions of government employees. The thefts also rejuvenated efforts in Congress to enact federal rules regarding notification, information-security and consumer-protection mechanisms."[via wired]
Here's an interesting editorial from the Arab News about WiFi thieves who sit in a car outside a business or residence and use another person's signal to access the Internet. With so many apartment dwellers in Saudi Arabia, I know many people who use their neighbor's WiFi signal and don't feel too guilty about it.But what to do? WiFi users just need to be a little more savvy and use a password-protected system. It would also help a great deal if Starbucks and other coffee houses didn't charge outrageous prices to access the Internet through T-Mobile or another provider. After all, these shops charge exorbitant prices for coffee while further gouging customers using WiFi.Editorial: Wi-Fi Bandits Arab NewsThe first reaction to the news in our issue yesterday that young Wi-Fi bandits were log

I'll lay it all on the line here and just tell you flat-out that Coronation Thieves is a powerful, chaotic, and (ultimately) brilliant album that seemed to fly under just about everyone's radar last year (including mine). This debut from the Brooklyn-based noisemakers Dragons Of Zynth is the musical equivalent of a kid in a candy store who grabs a little bit of everything as they pillage the little shop. It's Prince vs. Gang Of Four, Black Dice vs. Husker Du, Hendrix vs. The Eternals, or even De La Soul vs. Gang Of Four. It is all that and more; It is incredible and overwhelming. An obvious comparison to casual listeners would be TV On The Radio at their most disjointed and then some, partly due to TV's own David Sitek's production work on Coronation Thieves. The end result is neo-avant

By: Christine Peppler According to the Bureau of Justice Statistics (www.ojp.usdoj.gov) over three quarters of all crimes in the U.S. are made up of property crimes and certainly automobile theft is among the most prevalent. Automobiles are easier targets than homes in many cases as they are high dollar items, in high demand, and can be driven away within seconds leaving behind virtually no clues as to the identity of the thief.Although manufacturers have continued to provide basic automotive security features, additional measures are needed as thieves continue to adapt to devices on the market. For first time buyers unfamiliar with the options, the decisions related to purchasing an automotive security system can be daunting. However, there are a core set of features that should be considered which will help consumers select an effective system with less frustration.• An automotive security system should provide a first line of defense that warns would be intruders that a particular
You've heard about people who have been abducted and had their kidneys removed by black-market organ thieves. Well, this kind of cruel theft is happening with other body parts as well!My thighs were stolen from me during the night a few years ago. I went to sleep and woke up with someone else's thighs. It was just that quick. The replacements had the texture of cooked oatmeal. Whose thighs were these and what happened to mine?I spent the entire summer looking for my thighs. Finally, hurt and angry, I resigned myself to living out my life in jeans, and then the thieves strck again! My butt was next. I knew it was the same gang, because they took pains to match my new rear end to the thighs they had stuck me with earlier, but my new butt was attached at least three inches lower than my original! Recently seven people in US District Court in Hammond admitted their role in an identity theft plan that rang up $400,000 in unauthorized credit card purchases from 1998 to 2004. How they were able to do it?They used to collect people personal data from a car rental desk at O'Hare International Airport and used that date to obtain credit cards by other people names. This show how easy identity theft can be.But now a new Indiana law will frustrate thieves to use Hoosiers' good names and credit to rip them off. The law works on the concept:It lets consumers freeze or block third party access to their credit report unless the consumers want to release them. So freezing of your credit report will stop criminals from obtaining credit by your name. When you request for a freeze to your credit report to the credit reporting agencies, they will send you a unique PIN (personal identification number). This PIN will allow you to release the freeze on your credit report when you want to apply for

These thieves go by the name of FBI and Secret Service agents.
I learned early yesterday from www.gordonunleashed.com that the Liberty Dollar offices were raided by the feds. They took everything, including 2 tons of gold and silver.
If taking privately owned commodities from a privately owned office is not theft, then our dictionary just plain sucks.
Why did they do this? It seems that no one knows the answer to that question except the mob bosses who ordered the raid.
For those unfamiliar with Liberty Dollar, they run a competing currency backed 100% by gold and silver. This means if you have a Liberty Dollar note, at any time, you can trade that in for a certain amount gold or silver, or you can use it as a method of exchange like you would a Federal Reserve Note (US Dollar).
This means that not only did the feds rob the owners of Liberty Dollar, they also robbed all of the people who had purchased Liberty Dollar notes, as at this point, they cannot trade their notes in to redee

Banksy: Art and Thieves go hand in hand
Ten Original works of art by Banksy are going up for auction on Wednesday. The pieces are expected to generate $600,000. I expect they will generate more.

The destinations that attract people to visit from across the globe also attract something else: pickpockets. Its sad but true, but not something that should keep you away from the beauty and majesty of Tuscany. Please take these cautionary tips to heart and go into the fray armed with this knowledge. Millions of people visit Tuscany each year and only a small percentage will have a problem like this, but make sure you do all in your power to make sure you are not in the small percentage! Europe has a very low rate of violent crime, which is great by any measure, but the theft rate is elevated from this practice of preying on tourists.
On the plus side holiday villas are, more often than not, outside of the traditional tourist traps and hotels in the larger cities. A pickpocket watching you bring your luggage into the hotel and watch you come back out is sure to make you as a target. Its never possible to completely wash off that big red target on your back that says “TOUR
There was a time (not that I can recall it) when you could apparently leave your front door open without fear of finding yourself relieved of your worldly processions and when, if you dropped your wallet or purse, you’d have it returned to you without so much as a single coin or note missing, but these days, if they ever truly existed, have long since gone - and it’s gadgets such as iPods, with their competitive resale value, that are prime fodder for those with light fingers and questionable morals.
Described as portable, convenient security for your iPod, these iPod locks are manufactured from PolyCarbon strengthened ABS and vinyl covered steel and come complete with a ‘tamper-proof’ 4-digit combination lock which, barring a set of industrial wire cutters, should see your Pod still in place when swimming, commuting or working out at the gym.
The product features are as follows:

If you have a new car or bike one of the concerns is always its attraction to potential thieves and, whilst alarms and locks will undoubtedly act to deter all but the most accomplished (or plain stupid) of those looking to make off with bike or vehicle, this novel approach from designer Dominic Wilcox offers an altogether more abstract way to make your vehicle far less attractive in the first place.
The Anti-Theft Bike/Car Device in essence consists of a series of stickers designed to resemble rust and scratches that can be applied to your bike or car to diminish its apparent resale value to due false aging and the designer reports that this somewhat low-tech approach to vehicle security appears to work:
‘This anti-theft device is not guaranteed to work in any way. However I have stuck them to my shiny new red bike and can confirm it hasn’t been stolen yet. 13 days of not being stolen in London probably equates to 7 years of non-stealing in the friendly countryside.’

Truth is indeed starnger than fiction. Can you believe this one?!?American Home Mortgage pushing to seize $27 million in employee retirement savings.Ok, we all know the system has been rigged for a long time in favor of what blogger Bill Cara has called "HB&B", or Humungous Bank and Brokerage, as well as what he calls "friends and family" of HB&B. That rigging was evidenced in yesterday's bailout Fed rate cut which will only diminish the buying power of the dollar, but do little to enable a painful but needed cleansing of the financial system . But, you'd think that these HB&B creditors would have at least a little deceny not to try to filch retirement money from former American Home employees now without jobs. Of course, I am not so naive and idealistic not to realize that it's a creditor's prerogative to go after every stinkin' cent within the realm of the company's finances, but still... it seems like a travesty that retirement benefits are not shielded.

JOHANNESBURG, Aug 24 (IPS) - Raw sewage flowing into Lake Chrissie is threatening to turn South Africa’s largest natural freshwater body into a massive cesspool. Environmentalists claim that for seven years, local authorities ignored their pleas to upgrade water treatment facilities; officials only took action, they say, when local revenue was affected by the closure of tourism routes such as biking trails, as a result of pollution.
