Survey warns youth hurt themselves to deal with mental stress
A new Canadian study suggests a significant number of young people deliberately hurt themselves, not as an attempt at suicide but as a way of coping with mental stress. Study co-author Dr Mary K. Nixon said the survey of youth in Victoria, B.C., is fairly limited but the results underscore the need for a wider national look at what she says is a little understood problem. FA covering themselves in manure
The FA's inconsistent and useless disciplinary system continues to work its wonders, as Martin Taylor is banned for three games for a dangerous straight legged lunge while Jeremie Alaidiere is banned for four games for a little slap. As Arseblogger says, the FA are weak cowards who have been refusing to address the problem of violent tackles for a long long time. The sheer inconsistency of

The Thursday Treatise: Bhoys Beat Themselves
A pair of fatal errors cost Celtic their Champions League match with Barcelona at Parkhead yesterday. The result, a 3-2 home loss, will be extremely difficult for Hoops to make up in the return leg. Difficult, and if Gordon Strachan is to be believed, unlikely ("I wouldn't bet the house on it," were his exact words, when asked if his team could come up with the 2-0 win necessary to advance). Speaking of beating themselves, Fenerbahce won their game with Sevilla, but sloppy defending cost them two goals, which may have just left the Andalusian side too much of a window. Arsenal were unlucky to not beat Milan and the scoreless tie leaves the rossoneri needing to score just once and put 11 men behind the ball in the return leg at San Siro. In the fourth Champs League game, Man. United likely

Are Your Children Eating Themselves Sick?
TV commercials try to persuade kids to choose fast foods, high-fat snacks, high-sugar drinks and cereals. This type of diet cannot keep your children healthy. To the contrary, it actually suppresses the immune system and increases the risk of disease. The typical modern diet is also largely responsible for the recent epidemic of childhood obesity. [...]

Humans Do Not Need to Comfort Themselves With Fairy Tales
A response to Peter Bowden’s “God, Atheism, and Human Needs”Kelly O’Connor Jan. 24, 2008 The idea that human beings universally need some form of mythological belief has been one of the mainstays of the defenders of faith for centuries. They claim that even if god doesn’t exist or religion causes violence and hatred, it’s acceptable because it makes some people feel better about the harsh realities of life. This is a multi-pronged deceptive ploy used to abdicate themselves from any responsibility for those actions and to keep people thinking that their assertion is correct. read more

      Namibia eager to prove themselves
Namibia take on Morocco in Accra today anxious to prove that having shocked the continent by qualifying they fully deserve their place at the Africa Nations Cup high table. This is only the second time that Namibia have made it to the finals, the first in 1998 proved a chastening experience — the Brave Warriors going home after the first round with just one point. But they lived up to their nickname when fighting back from 3-0 down to lose a seven-goal feast against Ivory Coast. Their build up to this tough opening Group A game has been marred by tragedy with coach Ben Bamfuchile having to resign because of an ultimately fatal illness leaving Dutchman Arie Schans to take over the Warriors’ reins.Namibia owe their presence in Accra to upstaging habitual cup finalists DR Congo and Libya,

"The best SEM campaign is the one that helps webmasters help themselves."
The father of Taoism and revered philosopher, Lao Tzu, has said something you have most likely heard before today, he once stated: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime."Lao's message is about helping others to help themselves, and not necessary about fishing; something that can be taken into many different areas of life, including search engine marketing. On that note, I feel the best way to conduct search engine marketing is not to simply go through the motions for a website, but provide the website with the method and means to help themselves. After all, the best search engine marketing campaign is the one that helps webmasters help themselves. If you give a website a link, you empower it for a day...One of the major aspects o

Helping Clients Take Care of themselves During the Holidays
Many clients find holiday times difficult. Often people have unrealistic expectations that their families will suddenly become the ones they always wished they had. Others may feel as if they have to do everything perfectly in order to feel good about themselves. Our job is to help clients be realistic in their expectations and to pace themselves so that the holidays can be joyful, rather than stressful. It wouldn't hurt for us to remember these same suggestions! The best gift we can give to those around us is to take proper care of ourselves and help those with whom we work to do the same. Keeping ourselves in good working order requires the use of a few self-care and balance tools:

How Long Before Toyota’s Drive Themselves with Robotics?
Toyota Motor Company has a history of innovation. They debuted a production hybrid car in 1997 (the Prius). They built one of the world’s most sophisticated assembly plants in Mikawa Bay, Japan, called Tahara, back in 1979. The Tahara plant is now estimated to be the world’s best quality auto production facility, with fewer defects per vehicle than any plant in the world. Of course, in 2007, Toyota debuted the new Tundra, the most powerful half-ton truck on the market today. So, like I said, they’ve got a history of innovation. We’ve already reported that Toyota is excited about the potential of their personal robot, and how they plan to develop a completely new industry. However, we’ve seen evidence that they intend to apply much of the technology developed with robotics integrated into new vehicles. Here’s a list of the new features you can expect: 1) Optical Recognition: What’s really stopping your car from driving itself? The on-board compu

      Singaporeans Considered Themselves "Western"
I think some do especially those Asians who are married to westerners. They immediately 'act' like one. Others who work with or have western friends do put up an act like they're better than everyone else sorta attitude. But hey, I did experienced and got that vibe from those 'western-asian wannabes' as well though. However, I do think Singaporeans consider themselves as modern and individualistic first before anything. They think and act in a modern way to survive and keep up with trends of globalisation and with the global/local situations/crisis. They think for themselves and their immediate families, trying to improve their standard of living over time. There is no need to try to become "western" though some still think that being considered as "western" in behaviour, speech and thinking represents superiority. Most people don't. Of course, "western" by its term is vague. It does not signify all positive things. In common consensus, it refers to another ethnic group, the whites

      BCS can bite themselves
If everything plays out right the BCS can bite themselves. If Hawaii can manage to beat Washington next weekend and Kansas gets past Missouri and wins the Big 12, there will be two teams left unbeaten. Wouldn’t that be tasty? An argument against a playoff and for the BCS is that the whole season is a playoff. Now if both of these teams make it unbeaten and one is left out (Hawaii) it wouldn’t be the first time but it sure wouldn’t look right. Ok, your going to start with the “Who have they beaten?”-that is besides the point. I’m talking about their argument that the whole season is a playoff. If they keep leaving unbeaten teams out they should be able to use that argument. If you make the “Who have they beaten” argument Ohio State should not really be sitting where they are. Youngstown State, Akron, and Kent State are not real tough opponents and the Big Ten sucked BIG TIME this year. LSU falling to Arkansas was a kick in the ass

While navigating the feat of serving this lordly tale justice, he also had to undo a deeply rooted childhood stigma of indifference in the eyes of director Robert Zemeckis. While the story of “Beowulf” is the oldest epic poem in the English language, Zemeckis from his early days was unaroused by it.“Frankly, nothing about the original poem appealed to me,” Zemeckis said about the original story. “I remember being assigned to read it in junior high school and not being able to understand it because it was in Old English. He added: “It was one of those horrible assignments. Monster Drinks: Allow your passionate users to express themselves!
We are saddened to have received a legal notice from Continental Enterprises acting on behalf of Hansen Beverage, the company that produces Monster brand energy drinks. Basically, they are requiring that we remove all Monster backgrounds that CoolChaser users have submitted on our site. Frankly, we are quite perplexed by their actions - why would a company want to piss off some 4,000 of, in their own words, Hansen’s most passionate and devoted enthusiasts? We have tried to come up with creative alternatives and suggested that we offer CoolChaser users the opportunity to replace their backgrounds with “official” ones created by Hansen, but they declined. So, I’m sorry to say we have to comply to Continental and Hansen’s demands. For each of the 4,000 odd users who are affected, we will be individually sending you an email notifying of this incident. Republicans Should Ask Themselves, "Who Would Jesus Torture?"

Great Actors Repeat Themselves -- A Lot!
I've been thinking about this lately, and before I delve into the specific instances, I'd like to address the issue in general. I think what may happen is that one actor says a pre-written line, and then the other guy improvises a response. Then the first actor repeats his line or question, and the other guy comes up with a new, different response. And this goes on and on, over and over, until the director says cut, and chooses ONE segment including ONE back-and-forth. On occasion, however, the director will just throw the entire sequence of Line : Response 1, Same Line : Response 2, .... Exact Same Line: Response 57 into the film.Ok, so if that theory is correct, then there can be no fault found with actors who like to repeat themselves. But if that isn't the reason, then I don't know what the problem is. Why Repeating Yourself Is BadDerren Brown, the English performer, was shown on a subway using a similar technique of "I'll ask you the same question over and over." It tu
