For the Bible Tells Me So
If you enjoy documentary films and have any interest whatsoever in the topic of homophobia in the Christian Church and the enormous toll it takes on countless American families, I highly recommend For the Bible Tells Me So. If you are homosexual or have homosexual children, especially if you are a Christian, it is a must-see.I rented this one after hearing little about it and was pleasantly surprised. I watch many documentaries, and this was a great one. While some atheists may tire of the religious focus (e.g., the director and everyone in the film are unapologetically Christian), the message is worthwhile, and the film serves as a reminder that not all Christians are rabid extremists. One of the key things I took from the film is that Christian teachings about homosexuality being an abomi

Harry Carey, Jr., Hollywood Legend Tells Tales
If anyone has ever seen an old Western, you probably have seen Harry Carey Jr., with many directed by the legendary John Ford. Born into the movie business, his father was the famous silent screen star Harry Carey. At 87, Harry Carey Jr. is about the only real star that is still around and kicking that was in the John Ford Stock Company. He has appeared in over 150 films and television shows. Some of the more notable Westerns classics through the years he has starred in include Red River, She Wore A Yellow Ribbon, The 3 Godfathers, and Rio Grande. From getting in touch with him about the old Alamo movie set at Alamo Village in Bracketville, Texas, I have had several email correspondence sinc

Cuckinetic Clock Tells Time Rube Goldberg-Style [Kinetic Clock]
I'm always fascinated by kinetic sculptures, which is why I like this clock by painter and sculptor George Rhodes. You tell the hours from the numbered cylinders that're picked up on that wheel, and the minutes from the pointer arm. It strikes the hours when the cylinder rolls down the track and hits a bell. I'd love to see it in action, but since it's a limited edition of 50, costing $4,000 there's not much chance of that. If you do bag one of these 17 pound creations though, it's signed by the artist himself. [George Rhodes via BBGadgets]

Now before I start let me tell you that I am a big cricket fan, this will help you in understanding the thought behind the article better. There are different categories of cricket fans, some of them are just casual followers of the game, some are followers of those cricket games where they favorite team or players are taking part and some are serious followers of the game and no matter which team or player is playing or where the game is being played. These fans fall under the category of those fans that are very serious about all the aspects of the game and so cricket stats is something that is of very importance to them. For the cricket fan who is not too much involved with thegame, cricket stats may not be of too significance, but this is not so with serious fans of the game. Now cric

A Crime Victim Tells her Story...
The following was written by a crime victim who experienced something this week that you'd never think would happen!Unfortunately, the criminals are everywhere and they'll go to extreme measures to get what they want!! I want to tell all of you about a horrible experience I had yesterday afternoon... I met a friend at 11:30 at Ilios Noche, a restaurant located on Providence Road near 485 in the Harris Teeter shopping center. As soon as lunch was over, around 12:30, I got in my truck and drove directly home. As I pulled in the driveway, I attempted to use my garage door opener which is always left on the visor but I couldn't find it.I assumed, for the moment, that it had fallen out of the truck and then began looking for my cell phone which I couldn't seem to locate either. Then, it occurre

What Current Brain Research Tells Us About Effective Parenting
What Current Brain Research Tells Us About Effective Parenting - We now have evidence that during stress, the part of the brain that is in charge of learning and integrating new information goes on hold while the blood supply is diverted to the part of the brain that is in charge of the fight/flight/freeze response. This is why we are so often frustrated by catching our kids repeating the very behavior we so adamantly taught them was inappropriate. A former subprime broker tells all
A major argument about fixing the mortgage crisis is the issue of culpability: is the collapse in housing and credit due to speculative borrowers or greedy lenders? When I've asked this question of people who worked in the mortgage business, the answer, somewhat to my surprise, pointed to other brokers who engaged in questionable practices. This is an important distinction, because any government bailout will only be palatable to the American people if borrowers can be portrayed as victims. And that's just what a story in Newsweek does:Over the last six months the public has learned much about the business of subprime lending, the practice that put millions of Americans with low credit scores into homes—which many may soon lose to foreclosure.
