The Teardrop Explodes formed in Liverpool in 1978. They released their first single "Sleeping Gas" on Bill Drummond's Zoo record label in February 1979. The bands debut album "Kilimanjaro" was released in October of the following year and reached number 24 in the UK charts. 1981 was a big year for The Teardrop Explodes. Their "Reward" single reached the dizzy heights of number 6 in the UK charts and "Treason" number 18 so when it came to the bands second album expectations were somewhat high. "Wilder" was released at the end of 1981 and did not perform too well. Their days of being a popular chart band were over. After an extensive tour of Europe, U.S.A. and Australia the band went into the studio to record their third album.
